I am a bit crocked up just now - post back op + blooming virus. Can't go for a walk as the wind here would blow me over in a flash! Not allowed to sit for more than 20 minutes - grr!

I would like to relax and watch something good, but can't find anything.

I hate loud, fast-moving American films/programmes; not into soaps; can't find any films on prime that appeal; like more peaceful programmes.

Hard to please me - any great ideas?

Try Agatha Raisin, quiet innocuous with a bit of handbag/clothes envy.

can you get smithsonian channel.
i love their geographical programmes, and natural history. some wonderful scenery.
but maybe avoid the military ones.

Luckygirl3 Sat 11-Jun-22 19:27:43

Thanks both.

Which channel is Agatha Raisin on?

Thanks both.

Which channel is Agatha Raisin on?

It’s been on Sky recently

If you like old films, you could try Talking Pictures TV on Sky 328, or Great Classics on Sky 319. ?

Holy Water on Prime amused us.

Oh I love Agatha Raisin. Great suggestion GrannyGravy13.

I've also enjoyed Father Brown and the Sister Boniface Mysteries recently. I think they can be found on UKPlay.

Seaside Hotel www.channel4.com/programmes/seaside-hotel

Really mellow with old-time humour.
4 seasons.

Luckygirl3 Sat 11-Jun-22 22:04:01

Thanks I will take a look at that.

Don't have Sky by the way, but thanks for the ideas.

I'm watching Cranford again. Such good characters and early 19th century daftness.

LG3, if you have Amazon Prime, there is a lovely series called This is Us. It follows an American family across the generations, through about 5 or 6 seasons.
So you could start at Season 1 … or just watch the most recent one

I have loved it.

Get well soon ?

My list is growing - thank you.

Does anyone remember the name of a programme on a Sunday evening on BBC 1 that was about a family in a village in ?19th century. The star was the same actor as was in Downton Abbey (got sent to prison/married the maid/had a gammy leg)?

merlotgran Sun 12-Jun-22 19:19:13

It was Lark Rise to Candleford, Lucky.

Loved it!

Oh yes, I enjoyed it, my friend said it was like watching paint dry.

Just what you need at the moment, Luckygirl.

Ps the postmistress was a relative of my father ?

Chocolatelovinggran Sun 12-Jun-22 20:33:16

Lark Rise is a splendid book as well, if you haven't read it already, Luckygirl.

Callistemon21 Sun 12-Jun-22 20:34:45

I found the book in a sale for 50p - have added it to the family history pile.

Luckygirl3 Sun 12-Jun-22 20:56:30

That's the one! Glad you managed to decipher my ham-fisted attempt at describing it! I like a nice bit of dry paint myself. grin

I enjoyed State of the Union on BBCiPlayer. Two series now. One set in London with Rosamund Pike and Chris O'Dowd and the other in the States with Brendan Gleeson and Patricia Clarkson. Both about couples having marriage counselling. Sounds grim but isn't. It's written by Nick Hornby and directed by Stephen Frears so it's light and witty. Each episode is only ten minutes long so might suit if you can't sit for long.

I love Chris O’Dowd ( and Nick Hornby) but totally missed this series. Thanks for that. I’ve just found it on iplayer.

We watched the film ' St Vincent' on Prime a couple of nights ago, with Bill Murray and Chris O'Dowd, it was a funny and really touching film.

CaravanSerai Sun 12-Jun-22 21:37:50

Good! I loved Chris O'Dowd in Juliet, Naked. Such a sweet and funny film. Nicky Hornby's High Fidelity reset in the States starring John Cusack is one of those films I can watch over and over. Have you seen those?

Nortsat Mon 13-Jun-22 07:24:30

Some good suggestions here ⭐️ thank you …

CaravanSerai - great name ?

I stubbled upon Night Sky on Prime.
It's about an older Retired couple who have a secret passage to another Planet /World, and the consequences.

It one of those series that creeps up on you.
I haven't finished it yet, few more to go but it's got me hooked.
Very different from the normal.
Worth a look.
