My favourite TV series (currently)

I don’t really watch much drama. The recent series on Chernobyl and another on the KGB were excellent, feeding in to my long time interest in the history and culture of (dare I say it?!) Russia.

Stranger Things & NCIS when Gibbs is in it!

I am enjoying For All Mankind on Apple tv, it is the third series and an episode is released every Friday. It is about the space race to the moon between the Americans and the Russians and this series is about the race to Mars with an independent company joining in and making it a three way race.

I have enjoyed Succession and hoping for another series in the not too distant future and also loved This Is Us which is over now.

Chernobyl was fantastic, one of the best series I've watched!

I'd also highly recommend Flint Town and Seven Seconds - both on Netflix.
Flint Town is a documentary series and Seven Seconds, drama.

The West Wing. Lots of pointers about ethical politics which our Tories would do well to consider.

Alchemy of Souls which is a Kdrama. Beautiful old time fantasy setting in Korea. Thoroughly enjoying watching Kdramas. Rewatching Ghost Doctor

Currently watching This Is Us on Disney+ it’s really well written and I’m totally hooked. Previously enjoyed Poldark, Virgin River and Anne with an E on Netflix. I like to have something on the go for when DH is watching sport which seems to be almost every evening

I love a long series. So, Game of Thrones, The Sopranos and currently The West Wing.

Another one here for This is Us. I have just finished the very last series. So sad it’s over.

Can't wait for Shetland to be back on TV. Love Death in Paradise.

The durrells

TV series on aircraft and ships fascinate me .Mainly aircraft as of an age to remember both the Spitfire and Lancaster .
The recent programme on the QE11, showing her as a restaurant, brings back memories of when she was a cruise ship and I was fortunate, on one occasion, to have been one of her passengers.

“It’s a Sin” a drama on Netflix. I’ve just watched Ep.1. My daughter texted to recommend it. Think there are 5x one hour episodes. The sad story of the explosion of HIV/Aids in the early 80’s, the fear as it unfolds in the newspapers.

Excellent series.

Loved Spiral! Now working through The Sopranos (excellent) and Borgen (interesting and relevant). Quite a lot of rubbish on Netflix at the moment as we have seen most of the good stuff.

I'm not usually keen on SciFi stuff like Star Trek but there is a series on Disney Plus called The Orville. It's a bit of a take on Star Trek but quite funny in places. There is a robot called Isaac and he made such a funny comment I thought what a good reply if someone asks How are You. His response was "My Internal Systems are functioning within standard parameters". I thought I will say that one of these days when someone asks me.

I agree. I watched it when it first aired on terrestrial tv and it’s magnificently acted. I just can’t get to grips with the promiscuous lifestyle of the characters though.

Another fan of This Is us. Also recently binge-watched every episode of Big Love. Quite an oldie now and I think several of the actors now deceased. I always loved Ashes to Ashes and Life on Mars and watch the repeats on Sky. Gotta love a bit of Phil Glenister! And Keeley Hawes never seems to put a foot wrong whatever she’s in. Have read reports that A 2 A may be making a comeback ????

It's a draw between 'Long Lost Families', 'DIY SOS' and 'Who Do You Think You are' for me. As a retired Social Worker, I still enjoy anything 'human interest'... The family know that these three are 'non negotiable' but it does frustrate me that they all seem to flit about the schedule a lot so I miss chunks of each series... I'm not a fan of streaming or binge watching....

I often watch this programme. Our lifeboat was out to two paddle boarders yesterday, young girls, they were swept out on the outgoing tide. Glad they were rescued, the North Sea is very unforgiving.

Loved and direly miss Shetland, Vera, and Dublin Murder Squad as well as Inspector Lynlet series. A Yank here who’s heavy into British crime novels and TV. Others: Anatomy of a Scandal, Le Fate Ignorante and Il Processo (I study Italian.) Ozark and Yellowstone get thumbs up but, IMO, nothing beats The West Wing!

BTW I was astonished that 'The Serpent' (BBC 2021) won no awards, despite several nominations... It captured the era of our youth spectacularly and was a fascinating study of evil and goodness. I read the book "On the Trail of the Serpent" on the strength of the series and saw the documentary about Knippenberg who doggedly pursued the murderer. Both revealed how superb the casting was and how faithfully the screenplay was to the story.
