New crime drama on ITV tonight, 8pm, starring Adrian (Ted Hastings) Dunbar.

My TV guide describes it as ‘a cosy Sunday-night crime drama in the vein of Vera’, in a windswept Northern setting.

Think I’ll watch it, and catch up on ‘The Capture’ on BBC1 later.

I quite enjoyed tonight`s song

Charleygirl5 Sun 04-Sept-22 22:39:05

I have decided I do not like his singing so no thanks.

tanith Sun 04-Sept-22 22:37:56

Leave the singing out please.

Callistemon21 Sun 04-Sept-22 22:31:28

I don't understand why a song has to be included in each episode

merlotgran Sun 04-Sept-22 22:13:07

Could someone please tell him there’s really no need. ?

Callistemon21 Sun 04-Sept-22 21:58:40

Calendargirl

Yep, obviously a song at the end of each case.

To calm us down ???

Calendargirl Sun 04-Sept-22 21:56:51

Yep, obviously a song at the end of each case.

A poor version of Vera. Please, please, no more singing.
His being brought in as a Consultant reminded me of those from New Tricks. Yes, was not much of a mystery as Who Dun It. I missed it so had to watch on ITV hub (catch-up). Now I know why I normally record such programmes on my Humax and can watch without adverts. Cuts time in half.

Not the best police drama I"v watched and the singing performance was awful...Dare I say a bit like Daniel O'Donnell...blush

I enjoyed Ridley but as Calendargirl said thought the singing was self indulgent and not his finest moment.
I like a lot of the books written by Val McDermid but not the Karen Pirie ones, they seem a bit weak to me. The Wire in the Blood series was so much better.

Doodledog Mon 29-Aug-22 08:45:46

Val McDermid was involved in the production of Wire In The Blood, I think. I don’t know about this one, but it seems unlikely that her input will lessen as time goes on.

The actress doesn’t look like I imagined either, but after a while it won’t matter. Robson’s Green ‘became’ Tony Hill, to the point where I pictured him when I read the books. I really hope this series takes off too.

Calendargirl Mon 29-Aug-22 08:36:45

Saw the Karen Pirie trailer.

Having read the books, she looks nothing like my idea of how she should look.

Nearly always the case.

Have said it before, but if I was the author of any book that’s televised or filmed, I would hope the casting agents made a bit of effort to match them up.

Suppose it depends on who they want in the role though.

It was an easy watch.
When I posted earlier that I liked the music, I didn't mean his singing which was only average.

glammanana Mon 29-Aug-22 08:15:53

I thought it was very slow & dark and switched off after half an hour after reading some reviews I may try to watch again on catch-up during the week.

merlotgran Mon 29-Aug-22 08:12:38

Is he going to do a turn at the end of every murder?

Like Jane Macdonald at the end of every cruise? ?

What’s the betting there will be an album out this Christmas?

Calendargirl Mon 29-Aug-22 07:20:44

I was interested how Ridley was brought in as a ‘consultant’.

Wonder what salary scale he was on? Did he need a medical to be deemed fit for work, as he had obviously been pensioned off on health/compassionate grounds after his family deaths? I know his boss had pulled strings. (Was he another ex Corrie character, the father of Jason Grimshaw?)

He looked to live in a nice property, and was a partner in the bar/jazz club, so had a bit of spare cash.

Not sure about the singing. He has a nice voice, and has been a singer in the past, but it felt a bit self indulgent. Is he going to do a turn at the end of every murder?

I thought it was dreadful - preposterous plot, unlikeable characters, deadly dull and certainly not "cosy". I think Vera is far better.

mokryna Sun 28-Aug-22 23:02:09

It was good, guessed the girl being the same age. Looking forward to next week.

Doodledog Sun 28-Aug-22 23:00:11

If anyone sees the date before I do, please let me know? If it's as good as the Wire in the Blood series, I'll enjoy it. The Karen Pirie books are good, too.

Hellogirl1 Sun 28-Aug-22 22:58:32

I saw the trailer to the Karen Pirie series tonight, I rather fancy it, as I tend to love anything written by Val McDermid.

Doodledog Sun 28-Aug-22 22:47:23

I enjoyed it, but it was a bit slow - Sunday viewing. Sometimes that's just to get to know the characters though. I'll stick with it.

There is a Karen Pirie series starting soon too (Val McDermid) which looks good. They are still saying 'starting in September' which is annoying as I am going away in a week or so, and would like to set my recorder to watch when I get back. I prefer recordings as I don't have to sit through the adverts.

Charleygirl5 Sun 28-Aug-22 22:42:12

I did enjoy it but I would have preferred it if more had been shot in daylight. My impaired vision does not help when people do not switch on a light. I am looking forward to next Sunday.

There is a new crime drama on BBC1 tomorrow evening so in one week we are being spoiled and about time too.

merlotgran Sun 28-Aug-22 22:34:15

It was good and I also guessed who dunnit but not sure about the singing.

BigBertha1 Sun 28-Aug-22 22:29:08

Enjoyed this but not the singing or the song.

Glorianny Sun 28-Aug-22 22:26:31

I worked it out, but still worth watching if only for AD.
