Your best film ever?

It's a Wonderful Life, I always watch it at Christmas.

AreWeThereYet, yes, I absolutely loved The Mission: Music was awesome, inspiring and very moving. It encapsulated the entire film, which in itself was fantastic as were the actors. The story was thought provoking, making me angry and frustrated. And, yes I cried at the end.

DEBSF1 - I remember Pharlap and loved it. One of my daughters was very keen on horses and for one of her parties ( she was ten ) she asked to watch Pharlap with her horsy friends. They all loved it all and cried. I wish I could find a copy of it somewhere.

I’ve got it on video somewhere ( I used to video everything back then). Not sure if it’s an Australian or New Zealand made film but they both make wonderful films. I don’t think they ever found out what actually poisoned him. His lad become a very successful and beloved trainer in Australia. I don’t know if I could bear to watch it again but it’s a beautiful film.

For a mixed audience, ET. Best film ever. No contest!
The Holiday is great.
Saw Help (Beatles film) 12 times as a teenager but not sure it will have stood the test of time.

The Mission, Name of the Rose, Amadeus, It's A Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, White Christmas , Going My Way, Bells of St Mary's, Holiday Inn, The Quiet Man, Miracle On 34th St., Midway, Dr. Zhivago, It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, A Christmas Carol (oldest two), Wizard of Oz, Breakfast At Tiffany's, The Birds, Ben Hur, Anything with Cary Grant, Anything with the (older) major American and British stars having to do with WWII. I know I'm missing tons!!!

My deepest sympathies to you all on the passing of the Queen. Definitely is the end of an era. She was an amazing woman!

On the subject of movies… are you confused now? So many. Whatever you pick will be great. Make it epic (long and worth your money), keep it light and uplifting, good music helps, and if kids are involved there are good options there too. Seasonal? Like around Christmas… some of the best movies to pick from. Good luck!

A really good film is 13 Lives about the cave rescue of the boys in Thailand. It's on Amazon and is all the more fascinating because it's a true story. Well worth a watch!

Michael Mann film Heat is a favourite of mine. It's got everything. An epic crime film with ensemble characters, dialogues that is literature, and L.A. itself as a character. And importantly, a plethora of style. Apocalypse Now and Raging Bull are what come to my mind along with this. Those are really great movies!

To Sir With Love. Sidney Poitier he was wonderful!

I love mainly British films, I go to laugh and be entertained, not into gratuitous violence or bad language.
Do love a good heist though - one where you find yourself on the side of the baddies😁
