Your best film ever?

An ad has just flashed up on my phone offering a Private Screening at my local Cineworld Cinema for up to 100 people of my choosing for £120. So a bit like a birthday bowling/ trampolining/ soft play party for a child - but for grown ups.
So it got me thinking - I don’t actually have 100 friends sad so it might be fewer, but what film would I choose ?
While I am thinking - what film was your BEST EVER which you would like to share on a special occasion?
(Presumably the popcorn ? is included )

'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' for me, please.

I think I'd have to go for a Julia Roberts double bill, with Sleeping With The Enemy and The Pelican Brief.

Or a double bill (I'm so greedy!) of The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile.

Gosh, it's so hard to pick just one (or two ?)

That's easy My Cousin Vinny . It has everything . Humour, plot, romance . Must be the original edit though or they cut out the funniest scene .

The English Patient. I cried buckets the first time I saw it.
The Great Escape
Priscilla Queen of The Desert
Rabbit Proof Fence

I don't think I could pick just one, but top of my list would be
Mrs Doubfire. I've seen it so many times and still find it hilarious and sad in equal measure. Robin Williams at his best.

Other choices would be
An Affair to Remember (or any Cary Grant film)
Brief Encounter
The Railway Children
Pretty Woman
Little Women
Witness
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner

Though I doubt that any of those would appeal to 100 people, if I even had a100 friends!

For me and simply because of the memories it gives me from the very beginning .....Star Wars .
That film was a special effects game changer for me and I think it remains a multi-generational favourite. It's also the last film I saw with my mother so always a bit emotional (she died very young shortly after).
I am also a Tom Hanks fan and loved 'Castaway'.

Casablanca, Sin City, and A Lion in Winter.. That's today, tomorrow is another day.

My all time favourite is One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Loved Trainspotting and Philomena too.

Trouble is, we all have such different tastes.

Dread to think what I might get invited to.

Mamma Mia!!!

No thank you!

Personally, I like Brief Encounter, but not to everyone’s liking I know.

Me too! but on Abba note, I love Muriel’s Wedding.

OMG I saw that when I was sixteen at the Academy cinema on Oxford Street - I walked home through Hyde Park crying buckets!

There is only one film I watch every time it's on the tv and that's The Railway Children, I don't think I'd find a hundred friends who'd want to watch it with me though.

Chitty chitty bang bang and Pinocchio are my fave childhood films

Day of the jackal
Papillon

I enjoyed The Forgoven which I saw last week. Enjoyed might not be the right word though. I often prefer a Bruce Willis type action movie. I also liked Once upon a time in Hollywood. Gone with the Wind. Thelma and Louise. And then I remembered my favourite. Road to Perdition

Saggi Wed 07-Sept-22 12:07:25

Shawshank Redemption

tinad42 Wed 07-Sept-22 12:04:56

I don’t have 100 friends. Might make up 100 family members ???
I loved paint your wagon with Clint eastward and lee Marvin x

Calamity Jane with Doris Day

Too many films on my list to choose from I'm afraid. I have a very eclectic taste in all things: music, films, books, TV, theatre, etc, so I couldn't give one.
Simply due to the fact that I love Tom Hanks, anything of his. Although I'd probably have to say Jaws as it scares me every time I watch it. I was 11 when it came out and my late sister took me and my late mum to see it. I spent half of the film with my head buried in my mum's lap I was so frightened. The music made it even more frightening ?

Remains of the Day.
Perfect locations, casting, acting, costumes, script, everything!

Gwenisgreat1 Wed 07-Sept-22 11:59:43

Les Miserables, for fantastic music and a great story

Mamma66 Wed 07-Sept-22 11:58:49

Astonished that no-one has mentioned ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’. I am convinced that it has never been remade because they know it could not be bettered.

Others on my list would be:

It’s a Wonderful Life
The Post (but anything with Tom Hanks really).
On Golden Pond
Love Actually
The African Queen

And I agree with all the mentions of ‘The Shawshank Redemption’.

HazelGreen Wed 07-Sept-22 11:58:25

Lots of good suggestions there, I would like to add in Ben Hur and El Cid.

gillyjp Wed 07-Sept-22 11:57:44

So many but all time best is The Deer Hunter! OH's is Lawrence of Arabia. We also loved Dr Zhivago, Gone with the Wind and the Godfather.

Moggycuddler Wed 07-Sept-22 11:57:32

There are so many really. The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Star Wars. The Abyss. Silent Running. Gattaca. (Yes, I love sci fi!) Wuthering Heights, with Ralph Fiennes.

jangeo44 Wed 07-Sept-22 11:57:02

Brief Encounter, Gone with the wind, both oldies but as good now as back in the day.

SueLindsey Wed 07-Sept-22 11:54:56

When Harry Met Sally! Fabulous!
