We have Netflix but not prime but'I have just done a search and found out that A Place to Call Home & The Brockenwood Mysteries are available to view on uktvplay.co.uk/shows/a-place-to-call-home/watch-online & uktvplay.co.uk/shows/the-brokenwood-mysteries/watch-online.

Well done, I hadn't looked on UKTV Play but if all 67 episodes are there for free then that's brilliant.

I second ‘Detectorists’ if it’s still available. We missed Gavin and Stacey first time round but binge watched it in Lockdown.

Ever decreasing circles. Love it. Also My family Robert Lindsay is brilliant.

Detectorists is absolutely wonderful, gentle humour (sometimes cheeky) but heartwarming and with a touch of the spiritual.

I started watching Brokenwood Mysteries and will try to carry on, but it looks very much like all the other detective dramas. Nothing new there to keep my attention, so I started falling asleep.

We watch two comedies on Channel 4, 'Everybody Loves Raymond' & 'King of Queens', both American, but so funny. We record them and they're our go-to programmes when we feel like something light & uplifting.

I couldn't get on with Schitt's Creek. My favourite on Netflix was Call my Agent but I also loved The Good Place and Brooklyn 99. You can watch all of The West Wing on All 4 (though it is hardly light) and ER (ditto) on I think the iPlayer.

I'm enjoying 'Community' on Netflix. It's about a disparate study group at a third rate community college in America.

Try 'Upload' on prime.we found this very amusing a concept that one's consciousness is uploaded at death and lives on in another electronic dimension! It's not a sci fi thing it's really funny and feel good despite subject!

Thanks for adding recommendations everyone.

Everybody Loves Raymond is very funny. I recommend it. As is The Detectorists.

Just discovered there is a 4th series of Virgin River on Netflix so I'm devouring that. The OP asks for something cheerful and that fits the bill perfectly. It's a friendly, happy community set in absolutely stunning scenery, so watching an episode of that really lifts your spirits.
