I enjoyed it for what it was, a lightweight programme, involving characters from the books nothing more nothing less.

They seem a very ill-matched couple to me!

I think the possibility of dropping it was introduced in the 1920s. A lot of women still did in the '30s and '40s

It got a five star review in the Times, goodness knows why. I was really disappointed, silly farcical situations, hope the next episode is better.

I wondered about the "obey" then remembered my mum said she hadn't promised that in 1941. I thought maybe they were on a tight budget and couldn't afford the extras for in the church.
It's light hearted escapism which isn't a bad thing just now.

It was odd there were so few in the church - I thought perhaps it had been filmed during Covid / less people - but then there were a few in the pub. Were J’s parents there?
I’d enjoyed this series previously but thought this episode too cheesy for words.

I recently binge watched the original series with Christopher Timothy on UKplay really enjoyed it even though I watched them all many years ago.

Not for me I lived in this Python his area and know the history of the books. This new series doesn't work.

I was very disappointed in that episode, it veered off into farce at times when it could have been so much better.

The wedding itself was unbelievable. Popular local young woman marries local vet but the only people in the church, apart from the couple and vicar, were family and two colleagues of the vet.
No villagers in the church? Even if they weren't invited they would have slipped into the back in their best clothes or stood in the churchyard to wish the newly weds well.
Where was the reception? Who ate all the cake?

Mustn't grumble, it might get better.

In the meantime, there's always The Yorkshire Vet!

I was disappointed with the opening episode. Completely OTT wedding stuff.

It seems to be going down the Doc Martin route but it works with Doc Martin.

I thought it was dire so predictable and cheesy . I hate what they have done to the original books so many things are wrong. Sorry if you enjoyed it but I only sat through it because DH was watching it .

It was lovely, lighthearted and fun.
