Dont get me wrong here, I love watching Bettanys programmes......BUT I cant help but ask why does she wear such low cut tops/dresses? Her boobs almost tumble out !

But despite her attire, she is a fabulous presenter.

confused

I would do the same if I were her perhaps she is just comfortable with herself and enjoys being an attractive woman.

Ok... here I go again... just watched Paris - Rome and its a fabulously interesting programme and Bettany is a very good presenter....... BUT ..... its sooooo distracting having her chest on full view.... i mean Im nit talking of a tiny amount if cleavage, her boobs are almost an extension of her chin !!
Saying that, i do love her programmes.

I agree.
I was turned off BH when she did a program about Egypt.

She was on a a felucca sailing up the Nile.

She started rolling around on the deck, with next to nothing on.
To the amused sniggering of the young men sailing with her.
I was so embarrassed for them.
Lets not forget Egypt is a Muslim country.

She was brilliant before that.
I think shes hit a midlife crisis a few years ago ?

Anyway, I cant be bothered with anything she does now.

Shame she thinks she can't carry a program with her dialogue and personality.

Kate1949 Fri 14-Oct-22 23:27:19

I think she's fabulous.

Namsnanny Fri 14-Oct-22 23:37:59

Yes some people will.and do.
We all see things differently.
Pity she cant stand on her own skills as an historian and presenter though.

Kate1949 Fri 14-Oct-22 23:44:38

To be honest, I'd never heard of her before this series.

Namsnanny Fri 14-Oct-22 23:56:49

The cleavage is working then??.

The first ones she did were about the Greeks, I think the Odyssey, Rome and the Caesars etc.
She always had a very seductive presentation, but it didnt really jar against the subject matter. Added interest if anything.

I favour a voice over, more than presenter really.
But presenters have been the name of the game for a while now.

Puts me off lots of programs such as country file. Too many faces trying to make an impression.

Kate1949 Sat 15-Oct-22 00:10:48

I only recorded it because I love Italy and Venice in particular.

Namsnanny Sat 15-Oct-22 00:23:27

Yes me too.
Nowadays the camera work is so good on programs like these.

Have you watched Alastair Sook? He specializes in art history.
He has made some good programs about Greek and Roman art. Sculpture in particular.
The viewer gets to see some wonderful scenery.

The viewer gets to see some wonderful scenery.

I gather they do in BH programmes ?

Kate1949 Sat 15-Oct-22 09:52:51

Thanks Namsnanny. I haven't heard of Alastair Sook. I'll have a look for his programmes. I used to love the Francesco Da Mosto ones in Venice.

You're welcome Kate1949.

Yes lucca ??

I love all most the presenters that have appeared on BBC 4 over the years but, for some reason, Bettany Hughes is the only one I’ve never warmed to. What channel is she on now?

MayBee70 Sat 15-Oct-22 10:59:16

I’ve just googled it and it’s 5. And also seen a picture of her and see what you mean about the cleavage. Blimey!

MayBee70 Sat 15-Oct-22 11:05:38

…most of the presenters it should have said ( oh for an edit button). Alastair is mainly on BBC 4 I think. Janina Ramirez is probably my favourite presenter along with Sam Shepherd. Then there was one who did a series about churches. And a wonderful series about The Normans ( I found the presenter quite boring at first but really warmed to him). I dread the day that BBC 4 ceases to be but Ch5 do seem to be doing more and more travel/history programmes. So many adverts, though.

Namsnanny Sat 15-Oct-22 11:29:25

Yes unnecessarily ott Maybe70
I've enjoyed all the programs you've mentioned too.
I've noticed the use of sweeping scenery shots (titter titter!) Is getting better and better.
Worthy of the big screen. In fact if they showed some of these programs at the cinema on a big screen in HD I would pay to see them.
Also dont forget Neil Oliver or is it Oliver Neil?

MayBee70 Sat 15-Oct-22 11:58:53

Neil Oliver has gone a bit bonkers recently. But his programmes are good. A lot of the current presenters started off in Coast didn’t they.Let’s not forget the one who started it all (swoon) Michael Wood. The good thing is my memory is so bad I can watch endless repeats as if I was watching them for the first time!

Namsnanny Sat 15-Oct-22 18:01:33

Has he, how so?
I liked his series about the Orkneys and the Celts.
Plenty of rugged views on the latter.

MayBee70 Sat 15-Oct-22 18:16:00

He was very anti lockdown and against vaccinating children and said he admired David Starkey who is a rather controversial historian.

volver Sat 15-Oct-22 18:57:12

Neil Oliver. Perfectly normal ?

Namsnanny Sat 15-Oct-22 19:17:04

He looks Er, normal(?) In that photo.
I liked his Scottish accent, seemed suitable for a program about Scotland or the Celts.

If I had my way, he among others would do voice overs.
David Attenborough is probably my favourite presenter.

Did you read the caption?

Namsnanny Sat 15-Oct-22 19:56:11

I could see who it was, but didn't have the right glasses on so couldnt be bothered clicking.

Do you need me too?

Prof Robert Bartlett was the presenter of the Norman's MayBee70. Another brilliant series.
I particularly liked his Inside the Medieval Mind.
A psychological investigation of how ideas translated into laws and beliefs in the 11th-15th (ish) century.
Quite useful if applied today actually.

Good scenic views too, but not really as spectacular as say more up to date series.
