Did anyone hear her on Today Prog Radio 4 this am?

MissAdventure

As Miriam said, she feels a fart brings people together. smile

I find they can make them scatter quite effectively in some cases. Ask my BIL - he once cleared a room in minutes.

I don't care where or how anyone is educated: it's no skin off my nose.

I do not like attitudes that set sections of society against one another.

MissAdventure Mon 17-Oct-22 15:01:44

I'm very impressed, doodledog.
grin
Go that man!!

Farzanah Mon 17-Oct-22 15:08:13

A T O O B.
Well well……..

Prentice Mon 17-Oct-22 15:08:27

Chestnut

She's not a legend, she's an attention-seeking old bag. Her way of getting noticed is to be as rude and obscene as possible.

This did make me laugh Chestnut and you have out it so much better than I would have done.grin
MM has become even worse with age.

MissAdventure Mon 17-Oct-22 15:09:31

Bless you!

I don't know what ATOOB means, so I'm pretending you sneezed

MissAdventure Mon 17-Oct-22 15:12:00

I thought it was the done thing to grow old disgracefully?
Lots of people say they intend to, at least.

Farzanah

A T O O B.
Well well……..

What does that mean please?

I’ve always quite fancied Barry Humphries (not as Edna or Les)

Publicly - gracefully
Privately - disgracefully

WHEN I am an old woman I shall wear purple and a red hat which doesn’t match. Jenni Joseph 1961.
Always makes me smile.

MissAdventure Mon 17-Oct-22 15:25:58

smile

volver Mon 17-Oct-22 15:28:05

She's not the Messiah a legend, she's a very naughty girl. wink

FannyCornforth Mon 17-Oct-22 15:30:04

I don’t like that poem, ‘Warning’ at all. I find it quite depressing.
It does represent womanhood in the late 50s early 60s though.
I do hope that it had lost its relevance

FannyCornforth Mon 17-Oct-22 15:30:48

Has, not had

Prentice Mon 17-Oct-22 15:43:42

I agree FannyCornforth and think it has lost all relevance to older women now.

MissAdventure Mon 17-Oct-22 15:46:53

Hmmm..
Because older women now are so much more liberated?

Prentice Mon 17-Oct-22 15:49:39

Yes MissAdventure that is so, and usually prefer to dress in a younger way, look attractive and are more confident too.

MissAdventure Mon 17-Oct-22 15:52:46

A bit like 'Butterflies', with the droopy old housewife, mum to gormless kids, and wife of misery guts. smile

VenusDeVillendorf Mon 17-Oct-22 15:53:35

I think her wit may have absconded down the stairs with the excitement of a live show.

All she had to say was that his name was spelled wrong with that H in the front.

MissAdventure Mon 17-Oct-22 15:55:27

I keep being struck by how many comedians reference their sex lives in detail - men and women.

So, I don't feel as if Miriam is particularly unusual in that respect, by the way.

merlotgran Mon 17-Oct-22 15:58:11

I find that poem demeaning to women.

MissAdventure Mon 17-Oct-22 15:59:59

It was of it's time.
Life was demeaning to a lot of women.

FannyCornforth Mon 17-Oct-22 16:02:46

Never mind the poem…wink
What does ATOOB mean??

MissAdventure Mon 17-Oct-22 16:05:24

I never know what these things mean.
I just get my head around one lot, and others pop up, out of the blue.

Chestnut Mon 17-Oct-22 16:11:13

Margolyes talking about sex the way she does holds up a mirror up to the sexist society in which we live, where it is men who have the power, not the women, Making the arguments "ooohhhh she wouldnt get away with it if she was a man" is missing the point. They've been getting away with it for centuries.
So you're saying that because men have been behaving badly for centuries now it's our turn, and that justifies a woman to indulge in rude and vulgar behaviour on a television chat show, in front of other (possibly embarrassed) guests and an audience who cannot get away. I can't remember any man behaving like that on a chat show (correct me if I'm wrong) which is something she always does.
