Just that really...such an interesting lively/hot threaded debate shock..smile

Yes Glorianny, interesting about the Portland. I used to wait outside it in the 1980s to catch my bus home from uni, and the hospital entrance came right out onto the narrow busy pavement. There would certainly have been no room for photographers there.
The press got that one completely wrong.

Calendargirl Fri 16-Dec-22 20:54:29

But after Archie’s birth, when Harry was speaking excitedly to reporters outside their home….he didn’t lie, but the implication that the birth had taken place there was very evident.

It only emerged later that the birth happened in a hospital, albeit not St Mary’s Paddington.

Nothing to do with a photo shoot. They had wanted a home birth ideally, but then things changed, and they opted for hospital in the end.

Just seen a photograph of M when she was heavily pregnant. She's so slim and had such a huge bump, it didn't look likely that a home birth would be possible. I know there is more to it than that, but...

You're welcome, your Royal Highness. 🙂

Sorry about the awkward bob, it's me knees luv, they play me up.

Oreo Fri 16-Dec-22 21:19:02

You need lessons from Meg Callistemon😂

NanKate Fri 16-Dec-22 21:20:32

I wonder if their marriage will last. I think he is quite besotted with her. Will she tire of him being so needy.

When they have no more information to feed to the press, will there be enough in their life to settle down to a quiet existence? I doubt it.

I believe M thrives on being in the limelight. Maybe she will go back to acting and H will become a house husband.

Who knows.

Just my rambling thoughts.

GagaJo Fri 16-Dec-22 21:24:04

Maybe a bit John Lennon and Yoko Ono? Maybe he'll bake bread. JL said it was very therapeutic.

Callistemon21 Fri 16-Dec-22 21:31:45

You can only eat so much bread.
Especially if you need to keep your figure if you're an actress.

Chickens (they already have them)
Alpacas (very popular now)
Grow your own organic veg (good for growing children)
Vines? Harry and Meg's Californian Shiraz?

Glorianny Fri 16-Dec-22 22:42:18

The birth happened at the Portland not the Lindo Wing of St Mary's because that was where the doctor Meghan wanted was working. The Lindo Wing entrance is on a comparatively small quiet street which is easily secured. The Portland isn't. It was completely impracticable. So there was no traditional photo shoot. This is one of the articles, praising the Cambridges and making out M&H were being difficult. www.townandcountrymag.com/society/tradition/a26990385/prince-harry-meghan-markle-pose-hospital-royal-baby-history-photos/

Chestnut Fri 16-Dec-22 23:57:25

Where does it make out they are being difficult? It just says they are breaking with tradition, no criticism that I can see.

BaBaBoom Sat 17-Dec-22 00:03:29

Harry and Meg's Californian Shiraz?

Well they've got lots of experience in whining!

Chestnut Sat 17-Dec-22 00:08:20

I'm just wondering why anyone would think it is OK for tabloid newspapers to post photos and write accounts of someone's every move, but think it is wrong if those people choose to tell their own story?
Who said any of that? It's not wrong for them to tell their story but not if it's just one long whinge stuffed full of lies and unsubstantiated accusations.

Sarah74, thank you very much for that link. Very kind. Appreciated.

The press frequently has to make do with little information, it doesn't stop them writing endless editorials penned by 'experts' and those royal 'watchers'... the media can even make a news item out of Markle attending the opening of some fairly insignificant event.
The tabloids have latched on to the couple, so they'll find way to keep them relevant.
They'll only stop when the interest fades which doesn't look much like it will happen any time soon.
As much as people say they're fed up with H&M and "wish they'd just go away and live quietly" - they still devour everything that's written about them.

Paddyanne, the Windsors are glorious entertainment but I wonder if it's right to be entertained by others' troubles, even when they are well paid for it.

Entertainment apart, do you think having a royal family helps to maintain the present class system? If the Windsors all took to speaking Glaswegian all the time, doing their own housework , ans sending their children to the comprehensive school would we still be fascinated?

vegansrock Sat 17-Dec-22 03:48:59

22 pages of gossip about H and M in the Mail - if that’s not being hounded by the press I don’t know what is. Of course having royals whose main function is to attend events, be photographed and wave, maintains class divisions and inequality. If we were setting up a new country now few would suggest they invented a monarchy.

nanna8 Sat 17-Dec-22 05:21:52

Still haven’t brought myself to actually watching it. Sounds as though the second part was more interesting so perhaps I’ll just watch that. Probably not though. I don’t find them very attractive but that’s just me.

That sounds like the plot of ‘The Queen and I’ by Sue Townsend.
Except that they were relocated to Leicester, not Glasgow

Calendargirl Sat 17-Dec-22 07:20:57

I am digressing, but not much on tv last night, so I watched the Christmas edition of ‘The Windsors’, the spoof show about the Royals.

It was a repeat from 2016 I think, never watched it at the time.

Charlotte was a baby, Harry was going out with an evil Pippa, Camilla was plotting against ‘gypsy’ Kate, and Meghan was unheard of, an unknown actress in Suits.

Who knew what was to come?

Mattsmum2 Sat 17-Dec-22 07:39:09

I thought it was a good series that showed how much love and happiness they have found with their young family. I’m very much a royalist and love what they bring to our country. History has shown us that the press and their intrusion and fake news (or not telling the whole story) has a lot to playing how people in the spotlight feel. Examples are Diana, Caroline Flack and Kate in the early days. Those that don’t want to play the presses games are misrepresented and made out to be the bad ones. Yes H &M have maybe made some mistakes, haven’t we all, but let them be at peace and find their own way.

Iam64 Sat 17-Dec-22 08:04:02

What a pleasant change to read a post like yours Mattsmum2.

Dickens makes my point neatly - the people who complain loudly about H and M in the media spotlight seem to devour every thing written about them. Well, everything unkind and negative that is.

The DM prints pages, all aimed at criticising them. I find the constant portrayals of saint Kat -v- Cruella Meghan particularly unpleasant.

Definitely, without any doubt.

Joseanne Sat 17-Dec-22 08:20:48

I don't agree with the press intrusion at all, but I do appreciate it comes with the job of being a
member of the RF. Some cope with it, others don't, (no one should have to), and it depends very much on personality. Kate has nerves of steel, Camilla has a wicked sense of humour, Anne just says "Naff Off", Fergie probably says worse under her breath, and Sophue is serenity itself. They all find a way.
The problem comes with the more sensitive and emotional characters like Diana and Meghan (who just cried at everything - if we believe the tears, which I do up to a point). Maybe there was a case for them to be protected even more than others by the institution, and this was touched on a bit in the later series. Compromises should have been found to assist Meghan through it.

eazybee Sat 17-Dec-22 08:29:24

It is only since the advent of Diana that the royal family has been hounded, not just watched, by the press. She attempted to utilize it for her own ends, with tragic consequences, and dangerously H & M are using the same tactics.(I do so hope Meghan turns on Harry one day and shouts, " I am not your sainted mother!")

If the royal family didn't exist attention would be turned on the families of leading politicians.

I can manage about 10 minutes at a time It's boring. Disappointing, because I'm interested.
