Anyone watching? Very grim, but compelling as always. Last ever series too.

I don't see the attraction of James Norton!
I think he look like a sort-of "preppy" mummy's boy. grin
And, unlike most grans here, I think he looks better with long hair!

As I’m on holiday and socialising (ahem) on Sunday evenings, I’ve missed last week’s episode and won’t get to watch tonight’s either. BBC IPlayer isn’t available over here so I will binge watch both episodes next Thursday when we are home and then join in with your discussions. I’ve not let my eyes linger on your recent posts!

James Norton, currently playing Tommy Lee Royce in the BBC drama Happy Valley, recently revealed that he’d received a fan letter from a woman saying: “You can be happy in my valley any day.”
🤣🤣

I'm not going to speculate because I don't want to work it out before it happens! I like things to be a surprise. I never watch next week's preview, never ever.

Gransnetters write them, didn't you know? 😁

I think the PE teacher, who is getting friendly with Ryan, will be understandably angry when he finds out what’s happened to his wife. Knowing that Ryan’s dad is in prison, perhaps he’ll get Ryan to ask Tommy how he can avenge his wife’s death……

I think the PE teacher may find himself charged with causing her death unless he can prove he was elsewhere.

Ah, yes, that’s a possible outcome….

That session looked too much like grooming to me
Yes, it was disturbing.

Just re watched series 1 in tandem with this latest series. I’d forgotten most of the first series, it certainly helps put pieces of the jig saw together.
I’ll recap series 2 now.

Iam64 Fri 20-Jan-23 18:15:09

I’m sure you’re right Callistemon. The time of death may coincide with the timescale of the creepy/angry teachers intense discussion where Ryan shared his circumstances and the teacher responded entirely inappropriately by telling Ryan his marriage is unhappy.

I don’t believe Ryan is plotting revenge. I fear he’s fallen for his dad telling him he loved his mum. He’s not been given information till now about his mum’s suicide and he doesn’t know about the alleged rape, which Tommy will deny,of course.
I hope he’s just trying to make sense of his life and who he is. The Tommy’s of this world cause untold damage and only care about themselves ( me, judgemental? )

Callistemon21 Fri 20-Jan-23 17:03:28

Oh no, lovebeigecardigans - a bad 'un just like his Dad. Bad blood etc

lovebeigecardigans1955 Fri 20-Jan-23 17:00:32

And if he does anything nasty to TLR but gets caught Callistemon21 he'll be branded a psychopath just like his dad - ooh 'eck.

Iam64 Thu 19-Jan-23 15:30:44

It’s so good that we are all talking about it, all gripped and impressed by the acting and writing - fabulous
Also we get to hear northern women and see the moors 💖

Callistemon21 Thu 19-Jan-23 15:01:42

It's not going to be easy, though, as Tommy will be handcuffed to prison wardens the whole time hmm

Now, how is Ryan going to manage this and get away with it?

Visgir1 Thu 19-Jan-23 13:35:07

Callistemon21

Yes, he did, didn't he.

Perhaps he's the one lulling Tommy into thinking he wants a relationship with him?
Perhaps he knows what Tommy did (he's not stupid, he can Google) and wants to avenge his mother?

The chemist has some gloves and shoe covers, Ryan! Your Gran might have a forensic suit!

Never thought of that..? Ryan avenging his Mother. Yes..
I reckon Tommy will meet a nasty end.
Brilliant stuff.

Daddima Thu 19-Jan-23 12:54:00

I ws sure I’d seen this, but was delighted to find I hadn’t, and what I had seen was another programme Sarah Lancashire was in called Kiri, so that’ll be my next rewatch! I’ve got so used to bingeing that I take it ill to have to wait a whole week.
Also, while I agree Sarah Lancashire is excellent, I think Siobhan Finneran desrves more credit for het performance.

Ey up lasses.

I've been wondering - I think it's Ryan who's said (twice now) that 'revenge is a dish best served cold' - could he be cooking up a violent action against TLR?

eazybee Tue 17-Jan-23 14:26:30

Six episodes!
Thank you.
Perhaps they will develop Tommy's role a bit more now as he just seems to lie on his bed looking menacing at present.

Would any child want to know that he was born as a result of rape? How does she begin to tell him that?

I agree Catherine is perfectly capable of having difficult conversations. Also, Ryan needs to know everything now he's started forming a relationship with his father. Time to open that can of worms and give him the full story in every gory detail.

Annie was kidnapped and raped by Tommy. Her dad is Nev who was blackmailed . Catherine cracked the case and rescued Annie
Nev permanently grateful.

Ah - thank you.

Calendargirl Tue 17-Jan-23 11:22:42

I think NotSpaghetti has a point.

Ryan is 16 now, thinks he’s grown up. Yes, it would be hard to hear how he was conceived, but half truths and incomplete facts don’t help.

No wonder he doesn’t realise what Tommy is capable of.

Callistemon21 Tue 17-Jan-23 11:21:21

X post - he refers to Ryan.

Callistemon21 Tue 17-Jan-23 11:20:51

Yes, he is left wondering.

Mind you, a savvy teenager would have googled all the newspaper reports so I find it inconceivable that he knows nothing.
