I could cry, he’s moving on, leaving radio 2. He’s the only one I listen too now. I can’t listen to the screeching women or the patronising Vine, Scott Mills doesn’t do it for me. So, radio 2 won’t come to this house anymore after March. Very sad.

I will be moving stations with Ken... maybe just popping back teatime for Sarah and Jo,

It looks like they move them over from Radio 1 as they get older and the oldies on Radio 2 get the push. I'm another who won't be listening now Ken is going I thought I would when Steve Wright left but I'm sure now

There isn’t any indication that Ken has been pushed though, it’s his own choice. Unless you know more?

Thanks MerylStreep I'll give it a try.

Apparently Ken is taking Popmaster with him.

What the BBC fail to realise is that the older generation listen to the radio regularly and the younger generation are at work or studying and the last thing they would do is turn on Radio 2. My 48 year old son never listens to radio programmes but uses his Alexa to listen to music of his choice.

I believe that as the younger people age they could start to turn to radio and listen to music they remember as the programmes adjust to the music they heard in their youth.

The main difference between us and them is, that many of us were brought up with the radio in our youth, they weren’t.

He is going to Greatest hits radio, which Simon Mayo is on , I don't mind it , they play 60/70/80/90 hits . I was a bit unsure when they took over our local radio station but tbh they have been pretty good and we still have local news/ traffic and presenters at certain times.

I listen almost exclusively to Boom now, usually for several hours a day as I work from home. Once Paul O'Grady got pushed there was only really Lisa Tarbuck and Ken Bruce left for me but I don't even bother with them now I've found Boom. They play all kinds of stuff from Everything but the Girl to the Everley brothers. There's also Boom Light if you fancy some 50s easy listening type stuff.
All the presenters work from their homes so they are very relaxed and you get the odd grandchild or dog in the background 😁

It is rumoured that Rylan is going to take over from Ken.

Quite different I expect.

OH NO!!!
Is there no escape??

My 26yo dd has just said she’s most upset that KB is leaving R2 and that Drive Time is her favourite radio show. grin

I listen to UK Gold; admittedly whilst in the car, but it plays all the golden oldies with very few interruptions.

I like Ken BRuce too though I'm training a young lad who likes Capitol so haven't heard him in a while grin

NanKate Tue 17-Jan-23 21:21:24

SueDonim I should have added ‘with some exceptions’.

I’m prone to sweeping state!

grannyrebel7 Tue 17-Jan-23 21:29:18

I saw on Twitter that Gary Davies could possibly take over from Ken. I like him, but it won't be the same.

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 17-Jan-23 21:30:07

I listen to Radio 6 Music from dawn to dusk. Old music, new music and everything in between.

Bignanny2 Tue 17-Jan-23 21:31:03

Tony Blackburn’s sound of the sixties on Saturday morning 6am-8am is the only show on radio two that I’ll be listening to after Ken has gone.

SueDonim Tue 17-Jan-23 22:05:22

Nankate my dd has always been a ‘biddy kiddy’ - she likes old-fashioned things. It started when she was eight and discovered Earl Grey tea, preferably made in a tea pot and served in a cup and saucer. grin

I’ll really miss Ken Bruce, but may follow him to his new station. He has just the right amount of chat (that is, not too much). And that lovely smooth voice - very soothing! His selection of music is good too. Oooo Gary Davis would be a good replacement, but please not “you’ve been tango’d” Rylan!!! And please not one of those DJ’s that rabbits incessantly about nothing at all. There are far too many of those. With several DJs, there’s more inane chatter than music and I really dislike that. I have to switch off or change channels.

SueDonim my 9 year old grandson has unusual tastes. When his brother chose a chocolate bar he chose a bottle of iced peach tea ! 😀

My Google hub can’t find Greatest hits radio! Get all sorts of things when I ask it. Is it regional?

Hi Tizliz- yes Greatest Hits is regional, so FM frequencies will vary... however you can listen through your TV, on Freeview 716, or Sky 0151.

Tizliz Wed 18-Jan-23 10:25:54

Unfortunately (or not) I don’t have a tv in kitchen which is where I listen to the radio. Thanks

Get an Alexa device for less than £30 and ask her to play whever station you want.

Prompted by his move I have bought the audio book of his autobiography. You can get it in book form too but not on Kindle .
Listening to it took me back to the 1970s whe I had small children and listened to Jimmy Mack then Ken Bruce on Radio Scotland . I followed him to radio two where Jimmy Young was my all time favourite with all his special days of doctors , vets etc.. Must admit the only time I listen to Ken now is in my hairdressers I am very much a Classic FM listener now .

Floradora9 Wed 18-Jan-23 13:36:24

I forgot to say that the book is called " Tracks of My Years ".
