What advert makes you want to throw something at the telly?

There are so many. I particularly cringe at the one for Our Time dating for over 50s. I just want to punch the two simpering actors! Grrrrrr
Also, car adverts like Peugeot who think they’ll sell cars by speaking in a silly French accent.
I must be getting old!

No-one records any more? Eek, I watch very little live TV, almost all my viewing is recorded. I'd be lost!!

Ads: There is a new one recently that involves a large Bell crashing through walls and someone dru ming their feet on it. Don't know what it's for. It is SO badly done. Gnash.

I’m there with you, we don’t need blood stained pads to know what we need to wear. I find it offensive not helpful even though I’m through the period stage of life

The ad about having a lift and moving a vacuum cleaner 'Hurry up, they're here'?
Definitely 'My lot know how to party' showing a room containing 6 people!
Daisy Daisy Daisy!
Isn't the Omaze ad meant to grate to make it memorable?

I agree Free the blood stained pad advert is inappropriate and just plain yucky.

I hate to admit it but I rather like the Johnny Depp adverts.

No one in my family can stand the holiday ad where a woman throws her flip flop at a sunbather and, worse of all, a boy laughs at a little girl who drops her ice cream. It certainly doesn't make me want to book one of their holidays! hmm

Ridiculous dancing on ads seems to have taken over - Wren kitchens, webuyanycar, a house selling service and don’t get me started on the young man who loves going into work for Reed on a Monday!
Stuck in the house this week through illness and it’s really hit me how many ads there are for over 50’s life insurance, cremation/burials and bingo sites - often back to back.
Of course the fact these ads irritate us, proves they’ve our attention, positive or otherwise.

Ionis - nice, nice, nice NOT!!
I’m surprised that the McDonalds raised eyebrows ad doesn’t annoy me but it doesn’t

The virgin tv engineer - who didn’t fix the tv- said that Virgin are now issuing a new box but it has no recording facility on it as no one records any more!

I think that they are ignoring anyone over 50.

We also record shows with adverts to zip past them. Consequently, I haven’t a clue about any advert at all.

We have the Sky equivalent, no recording facility.

You can add a programme/series to your favourites which means it’s quicker to stream

GrannyGravy13 Wed 15-Feb-23 09:02:37

I tend to ignore all adverts, use the time to go and do something else or scroll GN.

Me too, I never watch adverts. I read years ago that if you’re having a bad day you can get all your housework done if you just do it in the advert breaks, and it is true. I don’t watch TV during the day, but in the evening every time an advert’s on I get up and do something else.

I agree about the ridiculous wriggling dancing with anything from clothing or kitchens to selling a car.

Like Juliet27 I like the Macdonald eyebrow raising ad and also loved their lorry driver one featuring the lovely 'Coming Home' song.

All those about germs hiding everywhere, making some people totally neurotic.

lemsip

the women sitting on the loo telling us about pads

Every time!!!

That silly holiday ad with the Christmas music and an awful boy with an ice cream.

Just terrible.

That awful boy enjoying the fact that his sister has lost her ice cream and then gorging on the food. Can’t see the point of it.

No recording !!! What’s wrong with the thinking ? We record programmes that “might” be interesting and then try them out later on. So easy if several programmes are on at the same time. I hear from the younger members of the family that most of the viewing is streamed but go to streamed stuff when we want to but still need the terrestrial programmes.

With the new generation boxes all channels are streamed, no such animal as a terrestrial channel.

Most of them treat us like idiots. Most of them make me determined never to buy the product!

Zoejory Wed 15-Feb-23 10:54:44

I've been trying to think what adverts have made me buy something.

As a child I adored the advert for Copycat Katie. I think that was the name. Small desk with doll sat on one side and child on the other with this plastic device that hooked child's pen to doll's pen and they'd write along with you.

Load of rubbish. Didn't work.

Also that ice cream dessert. Vienetta. Decades ago the advert swooped in and showed the knife cutting in and the satisfying sound made me ask Mum to get it.

Hugely disappointing. That sound was not there in real life.

And I think that's all. Can't think of any advert that's made me rush out to the shops.

Granarchist Wed 15-Feb-23 12:25:00

the animal welfare adverts that anthropomorphise the animals. Has me screaming every time.

Quokka Wed 15-Feb-23 13:26:04

The holiday one where the fat brother smirks at his sister because she’s dropped her ice cream, then licks his right in her face.

I’d shove it up his nose if I was her!

I mentioned this on another thread, and someone answered that previous ads used blue water, and there were worries that teens would think they were abnormal!
There’s now a new one for eco friendly tampons talking about a ‘ bloody mess down there’.

Wyllow3 Wed 15-Feb-23 13:47:55

I find it fascinating to see which ads get attached to which programmes and which channels.

I'm also trying really hard to think if an ad has ever made me buy something.

Not directly, but possibly a thought, "mmm that's not a bad idea" that has come in handy.

silverlining48 Wed 15-Feb-23 17:46:39

The one where the man cleaning is miming (badly) to a flash cleaning liquid shouty ditty .....and Daisy Daisy.

HowVeryDareYou2 Wed 15-Feb-23 19:00:39

I can't stand the one where the 2 women doing yoga and one says she's "letting it all out" (the advert is for incontinence pads), and the Omaze one - that woman's stupid way of talking.
