I excitedly turned on the new series of Beyond Paradise as it promised all the elements of things I like. I turned over after five minutes as it was sooooo flat for me. Is it just me who finds it underwhelming and am I missing something?!

The accents are weird and it seems to be entirely set in Cornwall when they keep saying that they are in Devon.

I enjoyed this second episode

Yes, the second episode was an improvement. Its a bit underwhelming but relaxing Friday night watching - I like "detective lite". and the bit with the car on the headland quite gripping. Tho come to think of it, because its before the 9pm watershed, they wouldn't have a carload with kids flying off a cliff it wouldn't be "lite" anymore.

I've recorded the second episode hoping it will be more interesting than the first.

Being a west country person, I quite like this. It is odd that they call it Devon when most of it was filmed in Cornwall.
But I quite enjoyed last night's episode.

I ignore the Devon claims because it's obvious it's filmed in Cornwall and I can't unthink that.

I don't mind a bit of 'lite' on a Friday evening.
And I've missed Humphrey 🙂

I think it's good for easy Friday night TV.

We suffered the first episode. Won’t be watching the rest.

By the by, Callistemon21, I was reading a plant catalogue yesterday and came across the word Callistemon and now know that it's another name for the bottle brush plant. Fascinating! smile

I am loving it, very relaxing on a friday evening. Accent is local to me

As soon as I saw it I knew it was Looe in Cornwall, not Devon.
We have had some happy times in Looe and its a nice reminder of sunny days.
Yes its gentle but like Doc Martin the views are lovely and I find it quite watchable.

henetha - if you saw my hair before it's tamed you'd know why I chose that name 😁

I hoped I would like it loved Looe in Cornwall looked forward to it but no it’s not for me.

Gentle, untaxing Friday night viewing. We have been to Looe many times and enjoy revisiting the area through the series lense.

Thank you all for your comments. I will definitely give it another go and watch both episodes.

I haven't seen many seagulls yet, they're usually ready to pounce on unsuspecting people like Humphrey.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 04-Mar-23 10:52:04

It is not going to win any awards, but for Friday night with a glass of vino after being on Granny duty for a lively 3yr old it suits me.

Farmor15 Sat 04-Mar-23 12:33:22

Enjoying it so far - as others have said, light Friday night viewing. Both OH and I recognised the young, curly haired policeman and were trying to remember from what show. He's Dylan Llewellyn and was in Derry Girls.

I am enjoying this lighthearted spin off. I don’t know if famous actors will be lining up to be in it as much as the forerunner as it isn’t in such a warm place.

No, they certainly all seemed to be lining up for their fortnight in the sun!

I didn't realise last night's was a repeat. It'a a shame when you can remember whodunnit.

I realised when Ralf Little was talking about leaving last week, that I've always found the first episodes with a new Death in Paradise inspector really irritating - and I have liked all the actors involved, which made it worse! Consequently I half expected to watch a few before deciding to watch it regularly.
Ep 1 was ok. Ep 2 better (and quite emotional)
Lovely to see Ruth Madoc in her final role, and their acknowledgement of her at the end.

I quite enjoy this programme. The characters are interesting and I like several of the actors playing them. The setting is a pleasant change from gritty urban locations. Seems ideal relaxing viewing.

Mamie Sat 04-Mar-23 15:46:34

Lovely to see Barbara Flynn and Ruth Maddox (RIP). ❤️
