Haven’t watched this for a few years now as it was the same tired old formula, but there wasn’t much on last night. I saw it was the interview programme, where the final five are interrogated by Alan Sugar’s buddies. I had absolutely no idea about any of the candidates or what they were like, but I tuned in, as it used to be the best show in the series,

The final five were all women. Not sure how cut out for the business world any of them were. Three of them seemed to have had their lips ‘done’, which was no improvement. Think they all had long swingy hair which got tossed about quite a lot. Three of them wearing Hillary Clinton type trouser suits, the others in short skirt suits I think, all with power heels. Some of the outfits not the most flattering to their figures.

All had hopeless business plans, according to the experts. Karren (Baroness) Brady was particularly scathing, and managed to reduce two of them to tears, and she had to proffer them a box of tissues to delicately mop their eyes, being careful not to smudge the mascara.

Lord Sugar managed to whittle them down to the best two of a poor bunch.

I’m sure reality tv shows or presenting some daft panel game will be on the horizon for some of them.

*If she said to me "Baroness Brady to you" I'd be inclined to answer "And I'm Ms/Miss/Mrs Stemon to you*

hahaha

I once had an ignorent neighbour who asked my first name; second name and finally "is it Miss or Mrs" without offering any information at all about herself.

Eventually I told her that it was neither Miss no Mrs but Dr. My first name was for my friends and she could call me Dr Biglouis.

I then went on the land registry site and did some research on her. It turned up she and her partner had completely different names. I learned who her mortgage provider was, when she had moved in and how much they had paid for the house.

If she had just told me her name I would not have bothered.

Blimey! I’m glad you’re not my neighbour.

Wide berth springs to mind. 😮

Land Registry? Size of their mortgage? How much they paid?
Crikey. That sounds like stalking
What next?
inside leg, colour of pj's,mothers maiden name too ?

They must pick the dim ones as they know they'll slip up and make good tv. I was a bit mesmerised by the lips and eyebrows and identical outfits. Can't stand Karen Brady - she was so sneering towards the girl who wanted a salon in Belgravia - she said " I live in Belgravia", as if it would be way beyond her. Well maybe it would, but surely high aspirations are a good thing and if she has to change her aspirations, then so be it , but don't pour cold water on her from the start in that snooty way.

Wow - stalking! As said above!

I watched a few episodes of the earlier series, but then decided it was not for me. Just an opinion, but I though that quite a few of the candidates were clearly suffering from delusions of adequacy, and as for Alan Sugar, who on earth would want to work for a man who has so clearly had such a highly successful charisma by-pass operation? Each to their own.

Calendargirl Fri 17-Mar-23 13:02:00

my moneys on the girl from Hull

Don’t think so, she was fired.

Katie59 Fri 17-Mar-23 13:03:43

I use to follow Apprentice but recents series have become farcical, why would any credible business prospect put themselves through the humiliation.

Maybe the candidates are selected by the same criteria as Love Island, or maybe the criteria is to fail an intelligence test.

crazyH Fri 17-Mar-23 13:19:02

Not too keen on Baroness Brady - looks like her face has been ironed.

MerylStreep Fri 17-Mar-23 13:49:49

I met Susie Ma some years ago through my daughter.
She was a runner up on the apprentice.
She started the Tropic skin care/ makeup range. She’s certainly no airhead.

I was addicted to the first couple of series then gave it a miss for three years. Thought I would give it another try, my goodness I will never watch again. If these candidates never had the sense to have an experienced accountant look at their plans beforehand, well it beggars belief 🙄

gangstergranny Sat 18-Mar-23 11:29:31

I've watched it since day one. All I can say this time the candidates are the weakest and the best ones were fired.
Whomever does the initial interviews (out of thousands of prospective candidates) needs to do a better job.
When Nick & Margaret were Lord Sugar's advisors they were so more professional, I squirmed when the 'Baroness' made herself plain.

Coco51 Sat 18-Mar-23 11:31:54

What amazes me about these contestants, when they ate asked to buy certain things and don’t know what items are or the kind of price they might expect to pay, none of them have the gumption to look it up on the phones glued to their fingertips. So basic and I dread to think how they expect success when so fundamentally stupid!

Galaxy Sat 18-Mar-23 11:48:41

They arent allowed to use the internet or calculators during tasks. Their phones are only for communicating with each other.

HannahLoisLuke Sat 18-Mar-23 12:01:42

Haven’t watched it for years. Not since Nick andMargaret assisted Alan Sugar. Can’t bear him and having seen the ‘Baroness Brady’ clip on Gogglebox last night I won’t be watching in the future. What an awful social climbing woman, so intent on her title. I only remember her from Aston Villa and she didn’t do a great job there as I remember.

IrishDancing Sat 18-Mar-23 12:05:23

Wow! I’m glad you’re not my neighbour too!

IrishDancing Sat 18-Mar-23 12:06:23

To biglouis!

nipsmum Sat 18-Mar-23 12:06:33

I stopped watching this year s ago. I can't stand Alan Sugars attitude and language to these mostly young people.

Kate1949 Sat 18-Mar-23 12:08:06

I too have only seen clips on Gogglebox as I did last night. What a horrible woman Karren Brady comes across as. My husband kept saying 'I told you she was awful'. He can't stand her after she was something to do with his beloved Birmingham City FC.

Dottydots Sat 18-Mar-23 12:09:02

I watched it and could have cried for those poor girls. How they were spoken to was disgusting.

Crampsie Sat 18-Mar-23 12:09:59

Totally agree it was out of order ! Sooo patronising and downright rude they’ve had these business plans since the very beginning and surely could have “ thinned down “ the awful ones instead if getting to this stage with him picking the best of a bad lot in terms of business sense - for goodness sake what’s the point of humiliating them at this stage ?

Candelle Sat 18-Mar-23 12:30:20

I squirm at the lack of general knowledge of the candidates.

Time and time again it becomes apparent that these young people seem rather dim and I often wonder if indeed the candidates are chosen for what they don't know - to give the show (and it is a show) a comedic edge.

I am in a minority, quite enjoying some of Sir... Alan Sugar's comments but I agree that Karen Brady's comment was a little beyond good taste.

The last programme is usually also one of my favourites but what a shower these candidates were! I would not be able to trust them to run a business as with all the resources available with a quick click, they had not bothered to read through and check their business plans for errors or bone up on what is necessary to produce a decent business plan.

I had my money on Megan who seemed half-way sensible. She's now toast, which is why I never bet!

Lizzie44 Sat 18-Mar-23 12:34:20

The programme has become a mockery of itself. Tired, repetitive format (from the 5am phone call answered by a pyjama-ed contestant, to the tasks, to the interviews). It's obvious that the contestants are chosen for their TV potential not their business acumen. The interviews have moved from being searching to being brutal. Karen Brady has sunk to new levels of rude nastiness. The only decent person on it seems to be Tim Campbell.

Blondiescot Sat 18-Mar-23 12:35:05

Oh come on, they know exactly what they're letting themselves in for! They've watched previous series and seen how the candidates are treated at the interview stages.

Ziplok Sat 18-Mar-23 12:40:28

I saw that snippet of the women facing Karen Brady on gogglebox last night and thought it was awful. Brady came across as a nasty piece of work (“and by the way, I’m Baronness Brady” said scathingly to one woman), and the women as ill- prepared. I’m glad I don’t watch it. From what I saw I thought it very distasteful.

varian Sat 18-Mar-23 13:06:22

Karren Brady certainly does seem to be a nasty piece of works.

Having progressed from a convent school to training to sell advertising with Saatchi and Saatchi, she established her career by working for the pornographer David Sullivan, becoming a director of Sport Newspapers at the age of 20.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karren_Brady

The "Sport" and "Sunday Sport" so-called newspapers specialised in softcore pornography, printing topless and nude photos of young women and advertising sexual services such a sex chat lines.

It is hardly surprising that she demonstrates no empathy or respect for these young women on "the Apprentic".
