Anyone else watching? I think it’s excellent.

Luckygirl3 Fri 31-Mar-23 16:45:19

Well I won't be watching any more - the scene where parents sent their son out of the door knowing he would be deliberately "kneecapped" is not something I have any wish to see in my own home - it woke me during the night - it was horrifying.

Aveline Fri 31-Mar-23 17:53:22

It was absolutely chilling. I suppose it underlined the horrible sub life underpinning life in Belfast. Policing nightmare.

Aveline Fri 31-Mar-23 17:53:47

Sub culture!

glammagran Fri 31-Mar-23 18:33:27

We watched all episodes over 3 consecutive nights. I found it extremely good and more compelling than Line of Duty.

For some reason, other than the violence and threat, I only watched episode 1 and a few minutes of episode 2. Just couldn’t face it.

Iam64 Sun 02-Apr-23 08:42:38

I finished the sixth episode last night. I found it gripping to watch. I liked the character development and the way working in country with such recent and historical levels of violence affected everybody.

Aveline Sun 02-Apr-23 10:11:04

I can see how there'll be another series. It's very good.

Grannynannywanny Sun 02-Apr-23 10:40:45

I agree it was gripping although a difficult watch at times. The knee capping scene was sickening. A lot of what’s currently going on in N.Ireland doesn’t make the daily news but I did see a news item this week detailing the current escalation in paramilitary violence. Much of it related to drug gangs and similar to what we’ve seen in Blue Lights.

I hope there will be another series. I felt the final episode was too rushed and I’d have liked it spread over another episode.

We are really enjoying it, will finish it tonight. The character development is very good, and bringing in the story about Grace's son was interesting; those of us on the outside think only of IRA vs DUP, Catholic vs Protestant, and forget that racism in what is a very white city also rears its ugly head. I would like to think that those in government who are so casual about harming the GFA have watched it. The back story of Officer Gerry and Happy was so sad, and there must be thousands of people who have also suffered life changing events as they did; some survive better than others.

It is terrible to hear that the violence of previous years has started up again. I lived in Belfast during the troubles and had only admiration for the police and the terrible job they faced every day with threats of bombs and shootings. Can’t watch the series as it isn’t being shown yet here in Canada but I did see a bit of it on you tube and can’t wait for it to come here. I love any shows that feature NI, just finished Bloodlands with James Nesbitt, brilliant series and the best scenery. Made me want to come back for a visit this summer but now with the renewed threats I don’t think I will risk it. ☹️

An excellent series, which gives a chilling insight into the unique difficulties and dangers of Policing in N.I. Well-developed characterisation, convincingly acted, with a credible plot and a satisfying conclusion. Sadly, in the real world, history appears to be repeating itself. Will they never learn?

Sar53 Mon 03-Apr-23 09:23:03

I have watched the whole series and thought it one of the best things I've watched in a long time.
You do wonder why anyone would want to be a Police Office in NI.
Great characters and storylines and very sad and shocking in places.
I recommend it.

I binge watched over the weekend. Brilliant. But what an eye opener 😱. It’s not for the faint hearted

Pittcity Wed 05-Apr-23 22:07:22

Wow! Just finished the series and thought it fantastic. I got a bit confused as to who was on which side but all became clear. (I think!)

Jaxjacky Wed 05-Apr-23 22:13:31

Just watched Monday’s episode, very good, but with, as in many a drams programme, some artistic licence.

Grannynannywanny Thu 06-Apr-23 18:31:08

Concerning news in N.Ireland from various sources today.

Oh no. Why do they do it?! Stupid men looking for fights.

Eloethan Tue 11-Apr-23 22:15:08

I have just finished watching this series. I think it has been one of the best things on TV for quite some time.

J52 Tue 11-Apr-23 22:42:29

Just finished watching the whole series, I can only agree one of the best series. Up there with Line of Duty and Happy Valley.

westendgirl Wed 12-Apr-23 18:04:49

Have finished watching the series,.Superb acting ,excellent script , so compelling ,moving, frightening , worrying but overall the best thing since Happy Valley, and no adverts to get in the way .

harrigran Thu 13-Apr-23 09:47:26

I enjoyed the series, great acting.

vegansrock Thu 13-Apr-23 11:42:19

Brilliant series, hope there is a second series.

honeyrose Thu 13-Apr-23 13:01:24

Yes - brilliant. I’ve watched the whole series after my DH thought how gripping it was. I didn’t understand some of it, having lead quite a sheltered life I suppose, but DH understood it on a deeper level and he explained it to me. He watches more gritty stuff on tv than I do, normally. Very good character development and great storylines. Some horrific stuff in it, but I had to watch it all. I don’t normally like police drama series as not my sort of thing and far too much violence in everyday life, so I found it harrowing, but I just had to watch it. It’s stayed with me a few days after seeing the last episode.

karmalady Thu 13-Apr-23 13:18:34

I watched ten minutes and decided that it looked too violent so switched off. Then I went back to it and ended up binge watching, it was one of the best series ever, gritty but no gratuitous violence. I loved the interplay between all the characters. Absolutely brilliant

Greyduster Thu 13-Apr-23 13:27:30

I started watching this, and I thought “This plot’s got more holes than a Swiss cheese” but I stuck with it and enjoyed it at the end. I hope there’s another series.
