Sad news - I liked him and his love for animals shone through.

Caleo Wed 29-Mar-23 11:17:36

He was one of the few celebrities who was worthy of his fame. I will miss his programmes about dogs, and the fact that he meant what he said.

LadyHonoriaDedlock Wed 29-Mar-23 11:25:13

Very sad indeed.

Dinahmo Wed 29-Mar-23 11:26:25

I very rarely feel sad when someone in the spotlight dies but the news this morning made me feel really sad. I always enjoyed his Battersea programmes and wondering which dog he would take home.

AJgranma Wed 29-Mar-23 11:46:37

Loved him, as so very many did. Hilarious as Lily and a sincere, multi-talented, wise and gentle man. A genuine national treasure.

Ziplok Wed 29-Mar-23 11:50:13

Very sad news. A very talented, funny and caring man it seemed to me. 💐🐶

Sad news had such a gentle caring kindness about him a great entertainer who never forget his roots

I'm so sad about this. A nice man who still had so much to do. RIP Paul.

I’ve just watched a clip where he has a rant about the Tory government. If he had stood for election as an MP , he would have walked it. I’m sure he had difficulties over the years but always came up smiling. I once saw him in Hythe (Kent) as he lived locally about 9 miles away from me. He supported our local hospital. He will be sorely missed. I hope we get to see some of his television stuff again. We need a laugh! RIP Paul

Such sad news, and very unexpected. A kind, loving, talented and funny man who will be missed by so many. 💐

I really loved his wit and sense of humour. When he read the eulogy at Cilla Black's funeral he said "There was me and our Cilla creating merry hell" As quick as a flash the Priest stood up and said "that will be two our Fathers and three Hail Marys Paul" Paul said " Oh sorry Father" and the little child and Altar boy came out in him. A genuine lovely and caring Man who will be missed by many. RIP Paul.

Paul always seemed to approachable and almost felt like a friend. His books are very entertaining too. I’ve never heard anyone say a bad word about him. Deepest sympathy to his husband and family.

Raab just got his name wrong in parliament, calling him Paul Grayson. I think Paul would have chuckled at that ( and it proved his point, too…).

He was dearly loved, as every single person on here liked him.. that is amazing

Shockingly sudden. Loved the man and all he did, especially his work with animals. RIP

NanaDana Wed 29-Mar-23 13:53:02

Such unexpected, shocking news at the relatively young age these days of only 67. So many heart-warming tributes to him today across the media, by people who were close to him, and have described him as a genuinely caring person, and a committed champion of the disadvantaged and the maltreated. Sounds like he was a lovely man, and will be sorely missed.

So sad. Such a big personality. Is it common knowledge what he died from? I only ask because it seems unexpected.

HowVeryDareYou2 Wed 29-Mar-23 14:16:44

I liked him very much. He seemed such a nice man, and he had a genuine love of animals. Despite his fame, he remained down to Earth.

No idea, but he had had a couple of previous heart attacks.

It is indeed pascal30 every thing I have read today or heard on TV has been such a positive tribute to a lovely man.

I was really impressed by him in his programme working with the Salvation Army. It was so sad (and stupid) at the end when they said that he would not be accepted to join because of his sexuality. Awful that they couldn't see past that to the good person he was. sad

This was from Sally Marsh (Author)
🌈A poem for Paul🌈
How very sad to hear of his death.
Rest in peace you wonderful man #PaulOGrady
High up in the heavens the gates were opened wide,
Every animal waited quietly, the dogs lined up side by side.
They had heard that he was coming, they couldn't wait to bark and cheer,
To welcome an amazing man that everyone held dear.
He had always fought their corner, and was there to hold their paw.
He understood their worries, when he sat and hugged them on the floor.
His smile lit up the darkest room, his laugh was quite contagious. His sense of humour was inspiring and just a little bit outrageous.
His time on earth was finished, he had spread his wings and flown.
And now it was time for all the dogs to welcome him back home. 🐾🌈

RIP to the righteously angry AIDS activist, LGBTQ+ campaigner, drag queen, vocal anti-Thatcherite and anti-austerity critic, and acerbic comedian Paul O'Grady.

Proud to have shared

Felt quite tearful when I read the news this morning.
Such a lovely man, one of a kind.
His love of animals shine through, a really lovely man.

I think many of us think, in an age of money-grabbing, self-centred pains, Paul O'Grady was a good person.

rafichagran Wed 29-Mar-23 17:34:03

I liked him, seemed a nice guy.
