Roll up, roll up!

The old one is full, so post your Corrie thoughts and observations here.

Calendargirl Fri 15-Sept-23 07:16:01

I started writing a list of Corrie characters to see just how many there are now, but the blessed screen ‘disappeared’ and I can’t face typing them all in again.

Shocked how many there are now, and I know I missed many out.

Made me realise how little screen time some of them get now, Eileen, Brian, Gail to name a few.

Too much time spent on some of the ‘younger’ storylines maybe?

Doodledog Fri 15-Sept-23 07:44:39

They seem to rotate them. I said a while ago that in the old days they would all
Be in most episodes even if they were just sitting in the Rovers or buying something in the Kabin, but now they are only there if they have a storyline. Someone said it was because of a change in contracts and they only get paid if they are

Doodledog Fri 15-Sept-23 07:46:03

Oops! In an episode. I think it makes it less interesting as each one only has a few characters in it, so things are dragged out.

Calendargirl Fri 15-Sept-23 12:55:38

And of course, the age of some of the actors.

Ken, Rita, Audrey, all probably in their 80’s or 90’s (Ken).

Even Evelyn, Roy, Gail, must be state pension age.

Expect they get tired of going to work, learning lines, ….

Doodledog Fri 15-Sept-23 13:13:47

Roy is one of the most often in it, I think. Yes, Rita and Ken do really well, considering.

Where is Brian supposed to be?

Aveline Fri 15-Sept-23 16:02:09

In the Kabin

Doodledog Fri 15-Sept-23 16:07:38

Aveline

In the Kabin

Locked in the stock room? grin

It's time Brian had another story although his last one with that annoying Italian cousin was a bit of a damp squib. Is he still away showing her the sights of Lancashire maybe?

Calendargirl Fri 15-Sept-23 20:44:49

I thought the scene with Paul and Billy, after his fall, was quite moving.

You really felt for them both.

Aveline Fri 15-Sept-23 21:34:29

It is a very painful story. Paul is acting it all so well.

LovesBach Fri 15-Sept-23 21:45:22

The actor will of course be leaving when he 'dies'; I do hope he gets other roles, as he has been outstandingly good in his portrayal of decline with his awful disease. When he smashed the record he had bought for his friend tonight, I felt like crying.

pinkprincess Fri 15-Sept-23 22:48:35

JenniferEccles and Doodled Thankyou, I never thought of either of those!

JenniferEccles Fri 15-Sept-23 22:52:04

It is very hard to watch. Paul’s acting is very good. I hope he gets an award.

Has Amy given up on university now? It’s never talked about.

And surely Summer must soon be on her way. Yes, I know it’s no longer ‘Oxford’, but even if it’s just Manchester, after all her uni angst last year, you think it might be mentioned occasionally.

Doodledog Sat 16-Sept-23 07:11:52

There was a problem with Amy after the rape (which is not mentioned now either). She stopped attending and if I remember correctly the university contacted her to say she had failed, or that she was likely to do so if she didn’t get her finger out. In reality though, they would be very understanding in the circumstances, although they will have wanted evidence or information that she may not have been willing to provide at that point. Did she press charges in the end?

If Summer is going to Manchester (or anywhere) it will be imminent now, so she’d be at least talking about it, you’re right. Maybe she will defer again because of Paul?

BlueBelle Sat 16-Sept-23 07:23:35

Oh Avaline please please no Brian he’s nearly as bad as Steven, very cringy
I was out at a show last night so got some catching up to do but sounds like it was a better nights viewing

Clawdy Sat 16-Sept-23 08:30:54

So Paul will now be consumed with guilt about Shelley's death......

LauraNorderr Sun 17-Sept-23 01:24:57

Agree with you all, The actor playing Paul deserves an award, must be a difficult part to play.
Also agree it was all much more enjoyable when all the characters were present.
Would love to see a romance develop between Brian and Mary.
Really don’t like the daft relationship between Aadi and ‘her with the face’. He and Amy would make a more believable and very sweet couple.
I think Aadi’s sister, can’t recall her name, is a good actress, her facial expressions are great. Oh yes it’s just come to me Asha.

Doodledog Mon 18-Sept-23 20:14:15

So Bernie's name is Bernadine? I didn't know that. More OTT acting from Dev.

I think that Mary deserves a love interest, but whilst she and Brian would be well matched, I don't think I could bear stories featuring both of them grin. They are only bearable in small doses.

Chocolatelovinggran Mon 18-Sept-23 20:44:19

I think that Lady Diana Spencer commented that life in royal palaces, under the scrutiny of so many eyes was like living in Coronation Street.

Grannynannywanny Mon 18-Sept-23 20:54:07

How is Paul going to arrange a “no expenses spared” funeral for Shelley?

Doodledog Mon 18-Sept-23 20:57:05

Here we go - assisted dying. I thought that might happen.

Beechnut Mon 18-Sept-23 22:36:13

Is that what Paul asked Todd to keep a secret Doodle? I fell asleep 😴

Doodledog Mon 18-Sept-23 22:46:23

In a word - yes.

I don't know how far they can show the reality of MND on a programme like Corrie. They will want to be respectful without shying away from how awful it is. Assisted dying gives them that get-out, and with Billy being an archdeacon there is that aspect to the story too. It's so sad, isn't it?
