I enjoyed it last night and thought it is very promising some good actors in it Suran jones who never fails and Hugh Quashie (Rick Griffin out of holby ) Eva Best held my attention anyway and I didn’t nod off as I often do

Were I ever to have a second life, I’d go for a lover who didn’t need his shirts ironed and folded in my chest of drawers smile

Me too ! smile

Perhaps he did it himself.

I can tell you all fact is stranger than fiction.

My husband was reunited with his birth mother, I could write 3 seasons of drama all of it true but most of it unbelievable!

My brother in law lived a double life for years. It was only a family emergency one weekend that brought it to light.

agree!

I have watched and enjoyed the programme as it is a breath of fresh air compared to the 'beautiful young girl is murdered - who 'dun' it' programmes of which there are many.

That’s very true. Although I think I’d still prefer a lover who didn’t have ironed and folded shirts, whoever had done the laundry. I’m thinking T shirts, sweatshirts, etc - well actually, I’m thinking bare chest grin

And why wouldn’t she share it with her family about trying to find her birth mother, after her adopted mother died?

Why the big secret?

Will watch the final episode tonight, but suspect like so many other dramas, it will prove a hugely damp squib.

Parsley3 Wed 24-May-23 19:31:18

I have watched it all now. What a damp squib. The interesting story of what the mother did in her secret life was skimmed over in favour of watching the two sisters scrapping. Cathy's ham acting annoyed me and I wanted to learn more about the interesting fancy man but he hardly appeared. If I was married to that dour husband I would sneak away to an island as well. Good on you Mary.

Aveline Wed 24-May-23 19:37:17

I'm enjoying it. It's a bit different. Suranne Jones is always worth watching.

Primrose53 Wed 24-May-23 19:39:18

I believe Suranne Jones wrote the story.

I’ve just watched the first two, but not sure I can be bothered with the third. I suspect it will be a ‘damp squib’. Overall the storyline could have been interesting, but somehow wasn’t explored well. I thought there was quite a bit of mis-casting. Stockard Channing?! - why?

Salti Wed 24-May-23 20:39:08

I am now in two minds about watching it. I really wasn't into gentleman Jack and gave up on that, but because I spent summers in the Isle of Man in my teens and looked forward to seeing it again, I was looking forward to it. Finding out it wasn't actually filmed there has completely spoiled it for me.

Calendargirl Wed 24-May-23 21:15:05

Early on in episode 3 tonight, Becca’s dopey husband says“This is all crackers!”.

That just about sums it up, I’m afraid.

Primrose53 Wed 24-May-23 22:09:19

Somebody beat me to it but it WAS a damp squib!! Absolutely dire last episode. We learnt nothing more about the marriage, the taxi driver stuff was totally predictable, the husband didn’t make any revelations ….. why was he even in it?

If Suranne Jones did write this, she should stick to acting. Total waste of three hours.

Junglebub Wed 24-May-23 22:25:01

Yup! 'damp squib' just about sums it up! What are the odds on a sequel where the sister and the taxi driver move into the house and friction in the family starts?

merlotgran Wed 24-May-23 22:32:08

I hope somebody paid for those two wasted meals. 😂

Lumiere Wed 24-May-23 22:35:28

Do you know, we watched it until the very last advert break, when we admitted we we're both bored, so I don't know what happened at the end and frankly, I was past caring
I enjoyed the interaction between the sisters, but it became more and more implausible

silverlining48 Wed 24-May-23 22:42:24

The final episode tonight was a disappointment.

Perhaps they took the ‘very well done steak’ home for the (missing) cat?

My thoughts too silverlining48.

Yes got to agree with most of you after what I thought a promising start it fizzled along and ended in nothing much
That poor american woman’s face looks as if it’s been butcher a few times and she wasn’t much of an actor Hugh s ( Jim) part was insignificant and he’s a good actor
Yes another one to tuck away as a non starter

Chocolatelovinggran Thu 25-May-23 07:45:54

And I want to know about Maureen, the mother 's "alibi" as to where she was all of the time! No one seemed to want to talk to her.

Clawdy Thu 25-May-23 08:23:50

Fascinated by what a tiny mouth Becca's husband had! Not much there to kiss really, but she certainly did!

Doodledog Thu 25-May-23 08:38:22

aware of all that but unless she'd been left a substantial amount of money my point was how did she afford the running costs and travel..
That’s what I kept thinking. Unless she inherited a lot of money as well as the house, how could she afford to run it and keep going back and forth?

Having a parallel life must be quite good though -specially if you can keep it going without hurting anyone. It would be like having your own little dreamworld grin.

Ah yes, it was never explained why Maureen covered for Mary all those years. Who is Maureen? There is a good story hiding in this somewhere.

silverlining48 Thu 25-May-23 08:41:06

Just checked Stockard channing, Stockard is one of her surnames. Her proper name is Susan and she is 79.
All this with a press of a button.
