Am I being a bit slow but why is Phillip Schofield being thrown under the bus now? He came out about his sexuality , now revelations about an affair with consensual teenager that he covered up to protect identity , Maybe I'm being naïve but not sure why there has been such a big disconnect from TV at this point .

This is Schofield's autobiography.

When I first saw the cover when it came out, I honestly thought that some wag had photoshopped it as a mickey take.

I have never before seen such a supercilious expression.

Kate1949 Thu 01-Jun-23 10:08:39

Supercilious is a perfect word for how he comes across Fanny. I've watched TM many times. Most days a chef cooks them something and Schofield looks into the camera whilst he's eating with a 'Don't you wish you were me' look on his face.

Do you think the photographer for that book was trying to tell us something? grin.

FannyCornforth Thu 01-Jun-23 13:25:24

grin It’s a cracker isn’t it.
What a smug 🤬

maddyone Thu 01-Jun-23 18:13:17

I think that photo has made me more able to articulate why I never really liked him. Yes, he looks smug and supercilious, and actually to me, he looks totally false. What you see is not what you get, and it appears that is maybe true. He’s too sickly nice, that’s how he came across. I’ve been thinking where I might have seen him since I don’t ever watch GM, and I think he has presented some other things. It was announced that he’s been dropped from presenting some awards this weekend, I think it’s soap awards possibly, and it was announced who was replacing him, but I can’t remember who it was because I was busy getting ready to go out and didn’t take too much notice.

We saw PS with his wife at Heathrow Airport, he was striding through the crowds, holding his passport and boarding card not quite pushing folks out of the way but coming pretty close. His wife was trying to keep up whilst carrying what appeared to be a very heavy and large item of hand luggage along with her handbag.

Obviously not a gentleman as my DH and AS’s would and do carry my hand luggage if it is weighty.

Iam64 Thu 01-Jun-23 18:54:33

GrannyGravy13, that’s a very telling scene you paint. Arrogant selfishness never a good look.

Phillip Schofield's loyal wife has been left both furious and devastated by his admission that he had an affair with a much younger colleague during their marriage.

Friends say that Stephanie Lowe, the mother of the presenter's two grown-up daughters, had no idea he was in a relationship because Schofield had always described the man as a friend and colleague.

It can also be revealed that the former This Morning star's eldest daughter Molly only found out about her father's statement to the Daily Mail in which he admitted lying over the relationship with the man just minutes before the story broke.

Friends say that she was at work at YMU, the talent agency that represented Schofield for 35 years, when she found out.

Staff there say she was in such shock she had to be comforted before going home.

an affair ??
that's both dignifying it, and minimising his conduct.
hands up who believes he made one error . . .

Iam64 Thu 01-Jun-23 19:24:39

Exactly welbeck, an affair is something that happens between two consenting adults

Thanks welbeck. It seems unlikely Schofield had one young boyfriend

Casdon, yes, I thought that it was a dodgy site too.
Lots of errors/ typos etc

I've just been reading the BBC News app's account of his interview with Amol Rajan.

Honestly, he'd have been better just to have shut up: it just shouts poor-meism. The accusation that the negative response to him is due to "a enormous amount of homophobia" is disingenuous.

kittylester Fri 02-Jun-23 06:41:19

We just watched some of the interview on Breakfast. Any sympathy I might have had for him has now completely gone.

Joseann Fri 02-Jun-23 06:48:13

He appears to have no concern for the young man's welfare by adding yet more fuel to an already blazing fire. But then he was never one to keep himself to himself. I hope the runner is being supported.

tickingbird Fri 02-Jun-23 07:21:06

I believe these interviews are to take the heat off the top brass at ITV. He’s covering for them. I have little to no confidence in the barrister looking into the whole sorry affair as ITV are the client so I dare say that will be a whitewash too.

FannyCornforth Fri 02-Jun-23 07:47:45

I agree Tickingbird

Now playing the ‘homophobia’ card is despicable.
If I were a gay man I’d be livid!
Up until a couple of years he was a happily married straight man and father of two.
And he would have stayed that way if he could.
He wanted his cake, to eat it and then some.
But now he’s a fully paid up Gay Man, and a victim to boot.
Pathetic.
He’ll use anything and anyone to hide behind and / or blame

tickingbird Fri 02-Jun-23 08:01:11

FC Couldn’t agree more.

Sparklefizz Fri 02-Jun-23 08:20:29

This interview is awful! It's all "poor me". He talks about having "lost everything". What about his lovely wife? She's the innocent party in all of this. His daughters are supporting him - who is supporting their Mum?

FannyCornforth Fri 02-Jun-23 08:23:39

I bet that his daughter’s are livid with him.
He’ll be using them too

FannyCornforth Fri 02-Jun-23 08:24:51

I cannot imagine how bad I’d feel if I was his daughter.
I’d be absolutely sickened

Iam64 Fri 02-Jun-23 08:29:57

I heard the interview on radio 4. Talk about poor poor me. I’m not a daytime tv person, knew little of Schofield other than his ‘coming out’ interviews.
His daughters should be looking to him for guidance through this time, not on suicide watch. They and their mother are victims here

Primrose53 Fri 02-Jun-23 08:37:30

He says the biggest apology should go to his ex lover. I would have thought it should go to his wife of several decades, mother of his children and totally faithful to him!

If I were her, I would divorce him. All those years being lied to, attending functions with him when others would be talking behind her back and then realising that he prefers young men to her!
