Am I being a bit slow but why is Phillip Schofield being thrown under the bus now? He came out about his sexuality , now revelations about an affair with consensual teenager that he covered up to protect identity , Maybe I'm being naïve but not sure why there has been such a big disconnect from TV at this point .

I think I'm going to wait and see what emerges

I get too emotionally involved in anything involving allegation of sexual abuse

According to Dan Wootton, the younger person is 34 years younger that Phillip Schofield.
They met when the younger man was a young teenager[doesnt mean anything happened at that particular point].

That site is dodgy fancythat, it’s not secure and my iPad detected malware. I’d advise others not to click on it.

Yes, don’t go to the site, it is very dodgy!

lets say my 15yo son has a 50yo PE teacher who coaches him. My son leaves school age 18 and has a sexual relationship with the PE teacher. Is that appropriate? as that is what is being described and admitted to. A mentor, a coach, a teacher, someone in a position of power with access to a child who is now an adult.

This is "on point" exactly but it rather begs the questions, for all of us, as to what counts as an adult and what doesn't. It also raises the issue of whether a relationahip in which one partner is "in a position of power" matters if both people are adults.

Define adult. Define "position of power".

Macron was his wife's pupil. Nobody seems bothered about their relationship. Admittedly, I don't know anything more about it.

NY Breaking is currently reporting an earthquake in Melbourne.

The site was not insecure when I went to it.

Dan Wootton is a well-known journalist.

Thanks. Should I ask MN to delete it?

All I know is that my iPad came up with a malware message as soon as I followed the link Baggs, I don’t know why, but the security is good on Apple products usually.

Dan Wooton works for the DM. He says he raised the Schofield/inappropriate relationship with itv in 2019. Says he left after being told not to report on that or H and M.

Schofield will have good legal advice, he’s acknowledged lying to his legal advisors, agent, wife, colleagues when this relationship was under discussion some years ago. He says he accepts the relationship was inappropriate but not illegal.

Schofield was in a position of power and authority over a young person. It doesn’t matter if Schofield isn’t a Saville, what matters is the breach of trust. Is it a Me Too moment for the many young men used in ‘the industry’

Baggs - for what it’s worth I’ve never felt ok with Mr and Mrs Macron

JaneJudge - agree with your PE teacher comparison.

it's laughable to think it's only in The Mail! It's across all new outlets and Bbc news sky news and twitter and The Independent!

I didn't follow a link, Casdon. I just searched for NY Breaking.

I've never felt comfortable about Macron's wife either but I have a very clear sense of what I feel are acceptable boundaries, most probably because I have to advocate for my own daughter who has a disability. Boundaries are important

Iam64 Sun 28-May-23 15:51:41

JaneJudge my work involved training police and social workers interviewing children. Language, boundaries and clear understanding of the age/power issues essential. Remember when Andy Woodward was the first former footballer to talk about sexual abuse by coaches. I wonder if this is another light entertainment Me2 moment.

JaneJudge Sun 28-May-23 15:58:33

I agree 1am64

Baggs Sun 28-May-23 16:01:12

I agree on safe-guarding issues too but that doesn't obliterate the problem of exactly when someone has what might be called adult agency. I suspect there is no simple answer to that problem.

He was editor of The Sun and now works for GB News

Phillip Schofield's statement in full.
"I am making this statement via the Daily Mail to whom I have already apologised personally for misleading, through my lawyer who I also misled, about a story which they wanted to write about me a few days ago.

"The first thing I want to say is: I am deeply sorry for having lied to them, and to many others about a relationship that I had with someone working on This Morning. I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning.

"Contrary to speculation, whilst I met the man when he was a teenager and was asked to help him to get into television, it was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than just a friendship. That relationship was unwise, but not illegal. It is now over.

"When I chose to come out I did so entirely for my own wellbeing. Nobody 'forced' me out. Neither I nor anyone else, to my knowledge, has ever issued an injunction, super or otherwise, about my relationship with this colleague, he was never moved on or sacked by or because of me.

"In an effort to protect my ex-colleague I haven't been truthful about the relationship. But my recent, unrelated, departure from This Morning fuelled speculation and raised questions which have been impacting him, so for his sake it is important for me to be honest now.

"I am painfully conscious that I have lied to my employers at ITV, to my colleagues and friends, to my agents, to the media and therefore the public and most importantly of all to my family. I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife.

"I have therefore decided to step down from the British Soap Awards, my last public commitment, and am resigning from ITV with immediate effect expressing my immense gratitude to them for all the amazing opportunities that they have given me.

"I will reflect on my very bad judgement in both participating in the relationship and then lying about it.

"To protect his privacy, I am not naming this individual and my deepest wish is that both he and his family can now move on with their lives free from further intrusion, and that this statement will enable them to do so.

"I ask the media now to respect their privacy. They have done nothing wrong, and I ask that their privacy should be respected."

Smileless2012

How are people supposed to get justice in an atmosphere like we're seeing here Doodledog?

I don't think there has been anything posted on here that hasn't been in the papers, who will have had lawyers scrutinising every word.

Anniebach Sun 28-May-23 16:53:56

The papers have branded Schofield a Jimmy Saville ?

FannyCornforth Sun 28-May-23 16:54:59

lemsip The Mail Online and The Daily Mail are different companies, I believe.
I don’t read the Mail online, but, I am, however, the only person on GN who buys The Daily Mail, and he does not write for them

FannyCornforth Sun 28-May-23 16:56:38

I don’t care what you ‘have copied and pasted’; Dan Wootton does not write for The DM, and never has
