Am I being a bit slow but why is Phillip Schofield being thrown under the bus now? He came out about his sexuality , now revelations about an affair with consensual teenager that he covered up to protect identity , Maybe I'm being naïve but not sure why there has been such a big disconnect from TV at this point .

lemsip The Mail Online and The Daily Mail are different companies, I believe.
I don’t read the Mail online, but, I am, however, the only person on GN who buys The Daily Mail, and he does not write for them

They are all part of Associated Newspapers.

Fanny how do you know that you're the only one on GN who buys the Daily Mail ?

Both fall under the same company but they print different stuff to capture the appropriate audience.

I think the problem some people have with Schofield is that he has set himself up (or his advisors have set him up) as Mr Nice Guy/Mr Clean/ Mr Family Man. It is now emerging that he is probably none of these things. He has been hoodwinking his viewers for years as I'm sure many celebrities have. I would imagine he has made millions over the years. It gets people's backs up. He is a self confessed liar and cheat.

FannyCornforth Sun 28-May-23 17:50:29

Spinakker thank you!
It’s because everyone knows exactly what is in the best selling UK newspaper, but only due to the fact that they have ‘seen it online’ smile

Surprised no one has come forward about Schofield during the years he has been on tv, no hint of anything, no tell all to the press

Give it time Anniebach. I imagine one by one they'll all crawl out of the woodwork in an effort to cleanse themselves.

Lawyers representing Schofield have confirmed they met when the boy was 15, but said the affair began after he started working at ITV, and the man’s lawyers have also confirmed this.
From ITV News.

I've just read that the lovely Doctor Ranj had spoken up a couple of years ago about the toxic culture on the show.

Interesting read. He'd been offered money to tell all but he didn't want to sell his story. He'd gone to the head of ITV but nothing was done

Sorry, it's in the Mail

Maybe people were afraid Annie. By all accounts he was very powerful at ITV and got all the best presenting jobs. Very friendly with Prince Charles (as was).

Joseann Sun 28-May-23 18:12:07

I guess one way or another the truth will out.
I agree Kate1949 that quite a few "celebrities" seem able to get way with too many things. The phrase, "lessons will be learned" makes me cross.

Anniebach Sun 28-May-23 18:17:25

Dr Ranj worked there for ten years and knew nothing of Schofield

Blondiescot Sun 28-May-23 18:41:44

As was the case with Savile, it appears that concerns were raised by various people (some very well-known), but were dismissed or buried. In that world, if you have enough clout, you can wield enormous power and hush things up. But these things have a habit of coming out eventually, one way or another...

Primrose53 Sun 28-May-23 18:42:10

As Louella says, Dr Raj has spoken up at ITV. Looks like he is not impressed by Martin Frizzell’s behaviour/attitude either. He’s one of the top guys there. People may remember his wife, Fiona Phillips who was on ITV for many years.

Schofield very friendly with The King, yet no invite to the coronation was there ? Ant and Dec were invited, they like Schofield are ambassadors for The Princes Trust

That's what you get for queue jumping! wink

Anniebach Sun 28-May-23 19:12:59

There are over 60 Ambassadors, they certainly were not all invited.

MailOnline is the website of the Daily Mail.

people in the world who haven't been abused need to read how abusers work and operate to avoid it happening within their own families
. They are charming and they fool people outside of their abuse network. It is how it all goes on and how it works, sadly

lemsip Mon 29-May-23 06:08:30

when martin frizzell took over at itv daytime was when This Morning and Loose Women started showing lots of sexual content on the shows under the guise of health items.... This Morning showed private parts of male and female

Dr Ranj was talking about the culture of bullying from the 'top' at Itv daytime he was not talking about Schofield!

Agreed.

The tricky part in this case I think is, we dont know for sure that the young man was "abused"?

People from all walks of life manipulate others. Regardless of cicumstances or age or genders involved.

Personally I would not have been happy with a son of mine in the situation he was in, when a teenager. Or at least, I would have been making inquiries and asking lots of questions. Keeping an eye on things.

Others would be happy about that. And not seen a need to do anything at all.

And there must be some instances of that type of thing that is all above board?

FannyCornforth Mon 29-May-23 06:41:48

On the Today programme just now.

ITV is losing millions of pounds due to advertisers dropping out.

All photos of Schofield have been removed from ITV’s studios

Forsythia Mon 29-May-23 07:39:03

There has to be much more to this than meets the eye.

If this chap was an adult and in a consensual relationship with Schofield then nothing illegal has occurred. Many men in that industry are in gay relationships, as are women, and never has there been a reaction like this. It is not about them being gay. Not in this day and age.

So, what is it? Why are all his photos being removed from itv, why has he gone into hiding, what has happened to this young man as a result of getting involved with Schofield? What is there yet to come out?
Otherwise, this all seems very extreme for a consensual relationship between two adult males.
