Just thought it might be an idea to have a thread for sharing thoughts and comments this Wimbledon fortnight for those who follow.

Thinking too of Lucca, tennis' no.1 fan.

Beeb are now showing the same match on BBC 1 and BBC 2 - why?
Plenty of play on the outside courts

Yes - definitely too much wittering. IN one of the men's matches the commentators did not confine themselves to commentating, but were reminiscing about their successes/failures. It got quite dull.

I tend to say to them (very loudly) "We're just not interested!"
But they don't listen.

They are there to commentate on the match.
Perhaps a few interesting snippets during breaks in play about the players on the court might be interesting, but it's about the tennis match, it's not about themselves.

Way too much wittering so I'm shouting at the tv all the time just shut up.

Don't like Clare Balding. Sue Barker was a million times better with her gentle knowledgeable style.

And I do wish they would let Andrew Castle go on a really long holiday ...anywhere away from Wimbledon 🀣🀣🀣

I think Clare Balding's doing well. Sue Barker's a hard act to follow and I think Clare's a good choice.

Can't believe you said that Callistemongrin.

It was DH!
I'm just the messenger 😁

However, why do we have such a lot of wittering talking instead of vital bits of matches?

Sorry to see Andy going out after playing so well at times. Lacked some consistency though, and his first serves certainly let him down. Tsitsipas was a deserving winner, though, and showed great resilience in battling through to win after being a set down overnight. Hope he goes on to do well.

Clare is, yes, it's the BBC coverage at fault; surely the match should be televised from the start.
There's too much talking this year.

We miss Sue.

Abso-jolly-lutely

Murray was auper. Great shame they had to stop the match. I think he might have won had they continued.

I wonder why the BBC doesn't used use Annabel Croft more as she's excellent and certainly knows what she's talking about.

Very sadly lost her husband just last month so maybe she's just doing bite sizes this year.

I think Novak Β²will romp home on this one

I miss Sue Barker - she was good at her job whilst not being "in your face", and she just seemed a decent human being.

Clare Balding is also good at her job I think.

Callistemon21 Fri 07-Jul-23 20:52:37

DH is getting very fed up with what he calls Clare Balding's witterings or drivelling.
Meanwhile the Djokovic -v- Wawrinka match is well under way.

Well, my kalamata olives for dinner went straight back in the cupboard, thank you very much.

And, of course, looks rather like a Greek god

(Did I say that? 😲)

I think we might all have been wanting Tsitsipas to win were he not playing Murray (or Broady, Norrie or any other British player!).

Of course - he plays so well.

Tsitsipas played to all his strengths coming back after last night! Well done him, his skills are tremendous, In my opinion. 🎾🎾🎾

Sparklefizz Fri 07-Jul-23 19:17:02

I agree Smileless, he is remarkable .... and when they show that clip where he cried, I cry along with him. I suspect we all do. Goodness knows how his Mum sits there watching it all.

On another point, I wish I had Kim Murray's fabulous hair, plus I thought she looked gorgeous in that pink flowery dress last night.

Smileless2012 Fri 07-Jul-23 18:59:12

He's shouting at himself Sparklefizz. He's a remarkable man both physically and mentally, having come through so much.

It's a tragedy that he had such a serious injury when he was flying so high in the tennis world. I didn't think we'd ever see him play again, and I hope this wont be his last Wimbledon.

Poor Andy, I so much wanted him to win, and it was so close, although I find all his "self-flagellation" too stressful. When he is shouting, who is he shouting at?

Apparently he is 11 or 12 years older than Tsitsipas plus, of course, he's got metal hips. He's done absolutely brilliantly to get back on form after his ops. I watched the documentary on his recovery on Netflix. He had a gruelling time and tremendous determination.

Hard luck, Andy. Well done, Tsitsipas.πŸ‘

At least I can now say, Phwoooarrr! With a clear conscience. πŸ˜‚

😁

Well, Andy has lost, but why oh why do we now have to listen to Clare Balding analysing the match with McEnroe and Henman?

No idea!
Far too much chit chat but perhaps they were filling time because the news was rescheduled to 6.30?
Oh, we've got the local news!

Calendargirl Fri 07-Jul-23 18:28:05

Just tuned in for the News, delayed to see the end of the Murray match.

Move it over to BBC2 please, all this post mortem is sooo boring.

I left to prune the roses. Can't bear it
He's done well has Andy but faint hope now.
