Just thought it might be an idea to have a thread for sharing thoughts and comments this Wimbledon fortnight for those who follow.

Thinking too of Lucca, tennis' no.1 fan.

It's on the tv in the other room because I just can't stand watching Djokovic. Even the way he walks around the court sets my teeth on edge.

Andy Murray was never as bad as Djokovic IMO. Yesterday's final was disappointing and it looks as if today's is going to be too.

Funny old game, tennis

You can rarely say someone is actually winning. We've had folk with match points end up being defeated

MiniMoon Sun 16-Jul-23 14:47:46

Auto correct is at it again. Alcaraz!

MiniMoon Sun 16-Jul-23 14:46:40

Well, this isn't going the way I thought it would. Alcatraz is taking a long time to settle. Let's hope he comes into his own in this second set.

Sparklefizz Sun 16-Jul-23 14:45:27

No. Alcaraz could still turn it round. It's not over till it's over .....

I'm rather surprised at this first set.

I'm hoping Novak will win, but it's very early days

Streaky

I had to turn the ladies match off, I couldn’t bear to see Ons losing so badly. Similarly I shall watch the men’s final until it looks like Novax is going to win. I don’t like him at all. What do you do while waiting for him to serve, make yet another cup of tea or finish knitting another jumper. Vamos Alcaraz!

You’ll have turned off by now then?🥴

ixion Sun 16-Jul-23 14:42:36

Oh go on, give the lad just one game!

PamelaJ1 Sun 16-Jul-23 14:41:59

Most enjoyable match of the day yesterday was the ladies invitation doubles.
Kim Clijsters and Martina Hingis won but it was a pleasure to watch. An unexpected bonus at the end of the day.

I’m going out for a walk tickingbird just can’t watch.

tickingbird Sun 16-Jul-23 14:34:41

Much more and I’ll turn off. I can’t bear it.

Callistemon21 Sun 16-Jul-23 14:31:18

I'm with Djokovic!!

Alcaraz is annoying because it sounds as if he's shouting OUT every time he hits the ball.

😬😬

Djovic is playing games - all that ball bouncing before a serve. Totally unnecessary. Makes me dislike him even more!

MayBee70 Sun 16-Jul-23 14:10:47

I didn’t like Sampras but it was his style of play I disliked, not him personally. Acs after ace was just boring.

Bella23 Sun 16-Jul-23 14:09:23

In the comments column in the Times today after an article about him one wrote, "He had attended the same charm school as Andy Murray".
The article pointed out he is liked by the other players whilst Federer was the crowds favourite he was not as friendly with other players.

Callistemon21 Sun 16-Jul-23 14:01:40

I can’t ever remember a top tennis player who has ever been as universally disliked as Djokovic. So much of course he has brought on himself

I think he's mellowed.
Like Murray.

They do get advice of course!

Callistemon21 Sun 16-Jul-23 14:00:36

Fasten your seatbelts!! 🎾

Anniebach Sun 16-Jul-23 13:51:03

Lendl wasn’t popular but brilliant player

MayBee70 Sun 16-Jul-23 13:48:32

I was going to go out today but haven’t so I’m going to be brave and add to the collective support of Alcaraz . At least for a while. If it looks bad I’ll chicken out….

I'm ready!
Lunch is finished and I have assumed the position - sofa reclined - knitting at the ready!
Please no 'phone calls - tempted to switch it to 'do not disturb' but can't do that as we have responsibility for 92 year old MIL

Sparklefizz Sun 16-Jul-23 13:35:13

Come on Carlos!!! You can do it !!!!

I hope Alcaraz manages to overcome his inevitable nerves and gets off to a good start.

I’m sure the Centre Court crowd will be overwhelmingly cheering him on.
