Is anyone still listening or have you given up?

So, Rex abandons his pigs, completely forgetting that farmers need reliable back up if they’re going to take compassionate leave and Pip, jewel in the Crown at Brookfield, would rather faff about painting a boat than helping Rex out with his pigs.

I hope they get my out and dig up the lawns at Lower Loxley!!

merlotgran - weren't they already out in the wrong place when the new doctor was dragged round LL by Joy??

Oh yes! I’d forgotten about that.

Elizabeth will not be amused.

Ruari to the rescue for Alice. Is he in student accommodation or did he graduate and get a job while I wasn’t looking? I am wondering how she will cope with London life after the comparative calm of Ambridge. And who will take her place at the stables?
Is George's dreadful secret going to be a sleeper for the foreseeable future? I still await the name of the motorist who caused the death of Shula’s husband, the fate of the bunting, and what happened to Stefan.

merlotgran Thu 16-May-24 23:21:48

Has Alice been charged with drink driving? If not, why not and if she has, how can she swan off to London?

Wyllow3 Thu 16-May-24 23:35:05

I just feel so furious with George. Good stables question.

Galaxy Thu 16-May-24 23:45:32

George didnt really stand a chance though did he.
His family is er a bit dysfunctional to say the least.
I dont really know why he lied, from my understanding he crashed because Alice was trying to jump out of the car. That's a fairly understandable reason for crashing.

NotSpaghetti Thu 16-May-24 23:49:05

I thought he'd been drinking the cheap cider??
The stuff he bought on the shop...

Wyllow3 Thu 16-May-24 23:55:25

Alice didn't want him to drive - he had had a drink and no insurance. Yes it's true the incident followed Alice wanting to get out.

She had sat in the passengers seat to drink and put the keys in the car well when he got in, and following the crash he dragged her into the drivers seat so she got the blame.

This last bit possibly the worst?

NotSpaghetti Fri 17-May-24 00:05:12

He was determined to drive and took the keys out of the glove box.

NotSpaghetti Fri 17-May-24 00:12:15

Although she did try to get out she did tell him to stop as she felt sick.

Galaxy Fri 17-May-24 08:51:03

He told whoever he rang that he only had one cider, so if that's true, it would have been driving without insurance.

Galaxy Fri 17-May-24 09:10:44

But it would have been better for him to say, Alice was pissed in a car, I thought it best to take her home, I am not sure people would have judged him for that. His other alternative once he found her was to leave her alone or ring Brian, etc. I am not sure that would have ended well. I am not justifying his cover up, just not sure it makes that much sense plot wise.

NotSpaghetti Fri 17-May-24 09:25:41

He rang his dad, left a message, and later deleted it from his dad's phone (in a ludicrous scene).

He sounded as though he'd been drinking and the cider bottle was referred to in passing as in the car. He was determined to drive her car. I think if she'd not been in it he would have walked on by.

NotSpaghetti Fri 17-May-24 09:26:28

Galaxy

Maybe he did only have one cider - after drinking everyone else's booze at the party!

Galaxy Fri 17-May-24 09:35:41

But would leaving her have been a good idea? I think it's quite a convoluted plot, why was Alice drinking in her car, has she done this before. I am having a vague memory of when she tried to get off with Harrison (shudder) was she drunk in her car then or am I imagining that.

NotSpaghetti Fri 17-May-24 09:58:01

She told you why.
She had taken the vodka out of the shop to a place just off a quiet lane, out of the way a bit. She'd parked up, hidden her keys so she couldn't drive, drunk the vodka and passed out.

NotSpaghetti Fri 17-May-24 09:58:52

Her specific intention was not to drive drunk.

Wyllow3 Fri 17-May-24 10:03:39

Rung Brian or any other family member or indeed his family to come and collect her.

What she had done was very self destructive -.
The why? Possibly self harming - buying the whole bottle, driving to a quiet lay-by, and drinking it all.

NotSpaghetti Fri 17-May-24 10:09:33

Exactly Wyllow3 she clearly feels useless now.

Luckygirl3 Fri 17-May-24 10:18:41

I am puzzled as to why no-one has asked why George was there in the first place. We know how he arrived there, but presumably the other characters did not know.

Wyllow3 Fri 17-May-24 10:20:32

She now - along with a lot of the village - thinks she's caused great harm. It's driven her further into self hate and further from believing any point seeking help: its criminalised her.

Wyllow3 Fri 17-May-24 10:21:31

Yes, a plot weakness.

Galaxy Fri 17-May-24 12:13:53

I to be honest thought that was a bit weak in terms of plot, she has a home or she could have got a taxi and gone to a hotel etc. If she had been found by creepy Harrison instead of George he may have arrested her.

choughdancer Fri 17-May-24 14:53:18

Strictly speaking I think Alice should have got into the back seat, rather than the front, after putting her keys in the glove compartment. I'm am a diabetic, and I know that if I have low blood sugar that's what I have to do to avoid the possibility of being arrested. That or get out of the car completely.
