Is anyone still listening or have you given up?

dogsmother Thu 27-Jul-23 16:33:52

Thank you Welbeck.

eGJ Thu 27-Jul-23 19:11:39

Are we all cheering Hannah on?

merlotgran Thu 27-Jul-23 20:27:01

Yes and I hope she soon finds out about the latest lies from George.

DaisyAnneReturns Thu 27-Jul-23 23:16:39

I have a feeling I am about to miss the early "bad boy" characters. At least Nelson Gabriel was charming. George, on the other hand ...

merlotgran Fri 28-Jul-23 19:31:23

How long before Henry caves in and tells Helen? ‘Our little secret’ is far to big for a twelve year old.

DaisyAnneReturns Fri 28-Jul-23 19:47:34

Poor Henry.

What a mess!!

^is he just a bad boy?^
Can a person be innately bad? A topic for a different thread perhaps?

That was tongue in cheek and probably should have read “the bad boy” as there always has to be one.
As far as the George/Henry, Rob/Henry thing goes I don’t really trust Helen to handle it well. As someone said unthread I wish she would get professional help.

Farzanah Tue 01-Aug-23 17:35:05

I’m sure she would in RL DamaskRose but as I mentioned up thread (and was roundly admonished for it 😮) TA are getting as much mileage out of the story line as possible.

It’s easy to forget it’s entertainment, not just a public information broadcast, although it may have started as that.

Delila Tue 01-Aug-23 17:44:52

Wasn’t the situation involving Helen having to “be there” for Rob at the hospital when he was told how seriously ill he was stretching credulity too far?

Without that the story couldn’t have developed in the way it has, but I found it an extremely unlikely scenario.

DaisyAnneReturns Tue 01-Aug-23 20:40:43

I would say the answer is both yes and no Delila.

We heard it with a lot if prior knowledge so we knew how cruel it was.

The Doctor needed to get Rob to listen and, if I remember rightly, Helen's name was in the paper work. Even with a lack of in-depth knowledge, the doctor could see Rob was difficult. But, as they say, no one really knows what happens in a marriage and the doctor could not even guess. Life is full of people not grasping the depth of other people's challenges.

It was certainly hard to hear but, I would say, well written.

The Archers was a daily feature in my life when the children were small - 'never missed an episode, as it was always convenient to listen in the afternoon. When the DC grew up and I returned to work The Archers left my life - I have listened once or twice in the past thirty years but have no idea who anyone is, or what is going on!

Still addicted to TA. (DH even more than I am!) But we are both fed up with George - a charmless oik who appears to have very few redeeeming qualities. I think he resents both of his sisters (Poppy & Keira) and I wonder whether that will come out soon. (Poor Poppy, stuck with George - and dim Will - in the cottage.) I just hope he gets his comeuppance: sooner rather than later.

I still follow it, but find the Rob/Helen story all too painful as it happened to me. (Not as bad as Rob, but bad enough). I just want the story to be over. Starting to involve Henry is awful. I'd have been banging at solicitors and SSD doors and told Henry but dont see Helen as "bad" but just trying to do the best in awful circs..

eGJ Wed 02-Aug-23 15:05:59

No sign of Rob or Henry in next week’s cast. The fete planning this late is so not what happens! Tiring of it all,……..but still listening!

Forewarned by BBC News I’ll be giving it a miss for a day or two.

“Hearing” greyhound Weaver being PTS. is more than I can handle.
And dont tell me it’s only acting, not real 🐕😢

Completely unnecessary and didn’t they do something similar with Peggy and her cat (the one before hissy Hilda) a few years ago?

Iam64 Mon 07-Aug-23 14:02:46

🐕🐶. I was warned about Weaver on a fb Archers group. I decided to avoid it. I’m becoming irritated by stories where farm folks get things so badly wrong. I’ve never shared my life with a sight hound, or lived/worked on a farm but even I know letting an off lead sight hound loose where a small furry animal or deer could appear, is seriously daft. The clue is in the name. I have a close friend who got to her 4th sight hound rescue before real problems arose. The dog had to be muzzled and only off lead in their garden but even so, the dog killed a neighbour’s cat who innocently wandered in.

Iam64 Mon 07-Aug-23 14:04:31

Incidentally, I wouldn’t have had any of my dogs off lead. The fields are being mown in our area currently. No walks there

Iam64 Mon 07-Aug-23 14:14:33

Moan alert
Does anyone else think dressing ferrets up and getting them running round wheels isn’t funny

I think Ruth had Weaver on the lead but he got free when he saw the hare. I agree about storylines being just plain wrong. Anyone involved in a corn harvest knows that startled wildlife wil bolt for their lives so what on earth was any dog, let alone a sight hound, doing in the field, on or off the lead.

And yes I agree about the ferrets. They may enjoy the activity but dressing them up?

Foxygloves Mon 07-Aug-23 15:02:01

On to my fifth sighthound there’s no way I would let her off anyway but I agree it was an unnecessary element of the story.
By all means point out the dangers of farm equipment though - maybe George could fall in the slurry pit?

eGJ Mon 07-Aug-23 15:03:37

Great suggestion foxygloves😂

Iam64 Mon 07-Aug-23 16:58:09

👍 great plot there foxgloves, all we need now is the DM copying our comments on its newspaper

eGJ Tue 08-Aug-23 18:19:22

Rob returns in person next week. Hope poor Henry does not get hurt too much.
