I have Netflix at the the moment but finding all the films and series the same and a lot of violence in them .

So is Amazon Prime any better would appreciate some views before I change .
Thanks in advance.

Nope. Just the same. A few worth watching and then nothing.

You could try Disney.

henetha Sun 30-Jul-23 10:06:38

I watched a lovely film on Netflix yesterday. "What's Love Got to do with It". No violence at all.
I love Netflix, can always find films and series to watch. And I am considering having Amazon Prime as well. So will be interested in other's opinions of it too.

We have both just for more choice and of course the extra benefits of prime next day delivery free audio books.

I cancelled Netflix and signed up for Prime. There are several series I'm watching, some Prime originals are very good.
We also have Disney+ because we wanted to watch all the Star Wars films and spin-offs being huge sci-fi fans.

I’m always amazed when people say they can’t find nothing to watch on Prime or Netflix. I’m very very particular in what I watch and I’ve seen ( I don’t know how many) wonderful films/ documentaries on both and Disney +

Netflix and Prime replaced our Sky subscription and we’re more than happy. Have to switch between the two when we exhaust the current offering of course. Acorn on Prime has been worth the extra fiver a month. We flit between others whenever something catches our eye- they make it easy to do unlike the old days with Sky.

I have Prime and Netflix because a lot of Prime films don't have subtitles. Very frustrating when I find what looks like a good film but can't watch because of not being able to hear.
I can't get ITVX on my television so have to use my firestick and subtitles again are not available.

We have both, I mostly watch Netflix. Just watched My Sailor, My Love. A gentle love story.
Prime occasionally has a good film. We originally got it so I could watch Outlander.

Mazgg - would wi-fi headphones help? I have them (available via Amazon) and they are brilliant. I can hear very clearly and my OH can still hear the TV or I can watch, listen via headphones without the tv sound on. I should add wearing them cuts out other sounds so it’s a bonus for me not to have my listening spoilt by OH chattering over the programme! grin

I have both, have a good choice, depends what you want to watch.

Sassanach512 Sun 30-Jul-23 13:10:49

Some films and series you have to pay for on Prime despite the £8.99 I pay per month which I think is a bloomin cheek. I keep Prime for the 1st class postage on things I buy on Amazon but really, I don't watch much on Prime, I like Netflix better. I used to watch Outlander on Prime until Starz got their hands on it and you need another subscription for it to watch so I'm 'Outlanderless' now I refuse to pay for yet another subscription

We have both and benefit from 'free' Amazon deliveries. There's a good choice but you need to search (preferably on a tablet or laptop rather on TV which is a slow business) for what interests you. We temporarily subscribed to NOW so we cd watch Babylon Berlin.

I think the people who say there’s nothing to watch don’t realise this is the best way to search.

I tend to subscribe to a specific app for a short time, especially if there’s an offer. I watch all that I want to see and then cancel until enough new original content has built up to warrant subscribing again. I’m currently without Now, Apple and Netflix. I keep Amazon Prime for free delivery on purchases. I buy a lot of books so the subscription covers the p&p for those. I don’t watch much content on Prime apart from the occasional film or TV series.

I prefer vintage, indie and world cinema. I subscribe to BFI for £35 a year and am also a member of Cinema Paradiso. The latter is DVD rental and costs £10.99 a month. Old school, I know but unbeatable for choice.

Netflix has about 4,000 films and 2,000 TV shows. Amazon has about 16,000 films and 2,000 TV shows but very many of those you have to pay extra for. Cinema Paradiso has over 100,000 titles.

It’s good if you enjoy programmes such as the Discovering series on Sky Arts and would like to watch some of the featured actor’s back catalogue. The Cinema Paradiso equivalent is the Getting to Know blog.

The service does depend on a quick Royal Mail turnaround but I have rarely had any problems. I reckon on three to four days per DVD: delivery, watch, return. This represents good value for money for films that I can’t see anywhere else. This is especially true of world cinema where the films, other than big award winners, rarely have a general release in the UK.

CP has some excellent curated collections e.g. Remembering Alan Arkin for the actor who died in June.

For anyone who has watched the recent series Reframing Marilyn Monroe on BBC iPlayer, there’s a collection of her films including Ladies of the Chorus, Love Nest, Bus Stop and many others.

Or maybe a Brief History of Old Age on Screen?

Fims for art lovers?

Using this service requires a bit more forward planning - you build a list of films and TV series you want to see and in what order.

If you aren't finding what you like on the main streaming services, assuming you still have a DVD player, receive regular Royal Mail deliveries and don’t have to make a long trek to a post box to return the discs, it’s certainly worth taking a 14 day free trial.

Thank you for the suggestion. As I wear hearing aids I don't think headphones would help. A friend has suggested that a soundbar might help.
I don't need to have the TV turned up just certain accents are difficult and of course the mumblers are impossible to understand.

You just have to turn on subtitles. You can see any film on Amazon Prime in whatever language it’s filmed in.

Digital hearing aids should connect direct to the TV and are amazing! You won't miss a word. This is the one I use but I got it for free with my Phonak hearing aid:

To find this I searched for 'Phonak TV connector' so you could try a similar search for your hearing aid.

Thanks all for your views and to Grantanow for the search tip .

That's great Merlotgran. I'm so glad you enjoyed it.

I have both but do prefer Netflix. My favourite binge watch at the moment is The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem. Now on to the 2nd series

Mine too even though the CGI scenery is no more sophisticated than a school play production. 😂

You could always rotate them, don't have to stick to one. Maybe use prime at times like Christmas when free delivery comes in handy

I know like cornflake boxes stuck together and painted!
