Amazon Prime or Netflix ?

I pay for Prime annually as I get free postage/books/music etc as well, all of which I use so think it’s good value. I buy into Netflix and NowTV on a monthly basis if there’s something I particularly want to watch.

We have had Prime for many years, mainly for the free, quick deliveries from Amazon.
We started subscribing to Netflix during the covid lockdowns. I can always find something to watch on both, whether it be a series or a film.
Some things are dire but there are some good ones if you search.

When you wear hearing aids you can stream directly to your aids from your iPhone or iPad. I have a Roger pen and loop to stream through for the TV, it works well

I know it wasn’t one of OP’s choices but Apple TV is good I can recommend Bad Sisters, Ted Lasso and Hijack for starters

I have both, and at the moment I am much preferring prime But that could change anytime. Prime has just upped its game, well in my opinion anyway.

At last an opportunity to compare and contrast. Sky threw in Netflix when we took out their contract. I agree limited selection blood and gore "nasty" films. Also have Prime which I prefer, bigger and better selection but the streaming at the moment is painful.

I got Prime because I wanted to watch Good Omens. We’ve found some good series on there.

Netflix and Prime replaced our Sky subscription and we’re more than happy. Have to switch between the two when we exhaust the current offering of course. Acorn on Prime has been worth the extra fiver a month. We flit between others whenever something catches our eye- they make it easy to do unlike the old days with Sky.

Yes, we're about to give up Sky too and start to use a Firestick which will be able to access various apps including Netflix and Prime as well as BBC Sounds, ITVX and others. I must admit that the content of Netflix seems less appealing than it used to be.
We decided to give up Sky because it just gets more and more expensive, you have to call every year or so and haggle it down. I just can't be bothered any longer.

I watched a lovely film on Netflix yesterday. "What's Love Got to do with It". No violence at all.
I love Netflix, can always find films and series to watch. And I am considering having Amazon Prime as well. So will be interested in other's opinions of it too.

I have always watched films since my Dad took me to the cinema at the age of three. silent films. I find a lot of films nowadays are full of sex and or violence.
I do have Amazon Prime because being housebound I need to shop on there. I subscribe to Cinema Paradiso because I like French and Spanish films and other language ones as they give an insight into their culture.They do have English subtitles. With the classic novels being remade I like to compare the old with the new.
Prefer the old ones.

You also get unlimited photo storage with Amazon Prime and you can share all the perks with another adult.

I cancelled Netflix coz I wasn't watching it. I have Disney+ and Prime. Prime I have for the free delivery and short delivery times. The video and basic Music are just extras really.

My Prime account expired yesterday, as I do not think that £99 per year is worth it. I don't buy that much from Amazon to warrant not paying for postage.
I am like Mazgg, I cannot watch any programme without subtitles, that is the only way I can enjoy a programme now.
I find that Netflix is far more user friendly than Prime and I know immediately if it is available with subtitles. It usually is.
Where as with Prime, the number of times I have tried to get subtitles and have been unsuccessful are too many to mention.
I get Netflix as part of my Sky Subscription, so don't pay any extra.
I agree that the quality of the programmes available on all the sites, has gone down since we came out of the covid restrictions. I suppose it's all down to how much money is available.

I’m glad to hear of another Cinema Paradiso fan, Bijou. Have you seen Poetry? It’s a Korean film from 2010. It deals with some difficult subjects but is also very poignant. It’s about a woman coming to terms with the onset of Alzheimer's disease.

CP really came into its own when Sky Arts showed Discovering Alain Delon and I wanted to watch his films.

I think Sky, innovative in its heyday, has struggled to complete as digital streaming has overtaken satellite transmission. They have been slow to catch up. Unless one has a household member wedded to the sport content, then there are plenty of alternatives. That said, they do occasionally broadcast some very good original and exclusive drama e.g. Succession.

I subscribed to Now (Sky content without a contract) when they offered it for £4.99 a month then cancelled when the price went up to £9.99. By them I had watched everything I had wanted to see. If they come along with another offer I’ll consider rejoining but only if there’s enough new content.

My favourite Sky channel is Sky Arts which is free to air and why I use a Humax recorder, so I can record and then fast forward through the ads.

I refuse to pay for anything extra and find plenty to watch on terrestrial channels plus Amazon Freevee, ITVX and especially You Tube which has such amazing things. I've been known to fall down a You Tube rabbit hole for 2 hours and forget to cook dinner! There is no charge for any of these.

I'm going to check out Plex because I spotted an old movie I've been looking for and it seems to be on there for free. Does anyone use Plex?

Another feel-good film on Netflix yesterday. "Happiness for beginners".

I'm familar with Plex, Chestnut, as a FAST (free ad-supported streaming television) service which brings together content from several other services. Tom's Guide explains how it works:

It has a lot of content from Rakuten TV which is available as a free app on smart TVs.

It comes down to whether one wants ad-free or ad-supported viewing.

Us too. I don't watch these channels much but as I prefer the sport or if not raining out in my garden working but DH likes them sometimes.

I’ve got both! Don’t watch ‘real’ tv anymore ….too many Celebes that aren’t!….. too many people telling us how we should be feeling…… and too many well heeled middle class telling me how I can eat well on £30 a week! Great for a week ….not so good for ever! All bullsh*****s!
And before you say cancel both and you’d have more to spend….my son pays for my entertainment as I won’t let him feed me.

Thanks, Caravansera. I just downloaded Plex to my TV through the Amazon Fire Stick. I can see that old movie I was looking for which is not available anywhere else. Fantastic! I shall watch that tonight, and see what else I can find on there. I'm not bothered about ads if it's something I really want to watch.

We have both and benefit from 'free' Amazon deliveries. There's a good choice but you need to search (preferably on a tablet or laptop rather on TV which is a slow business) for what interests you. We temporarily subscribed to NOW so we cd watch Babylon Berlin.

We watched 'What We Did on Our Holiday' on Prime the other evening and enjoyed it.

I have both. And watch neither! I have Netflix for when my GC visit, and Prime for the free delivery (I use Amazon a lot!), but can count on the fingers of one hand how many times I've watched them myself. I rarely watch TV at all, there are far more interesting things to be doing. I watch something (on the Crime Network, usually), whilst I'm eating dinner (I live alone, so I'm not being rude), which takes about 20 minutes maybe and as soon as I've finished eating the TV goes off, even if the program hasn't finished. It can take me three nights to finish one episode! Lol!
