Well, I expected better from the BBC.
How bad can the acting be?
Did anyone else waste an hour, hoping it could improve?

By the way, I hope those of you who are watching it enjoyed it, but it’s not for me.

I finally binge watched it last night .

Admittedly , I was really tired and dozed through bits of it !

I think that TV audiences have become really sophisticated - it was obvious that the two policemen were bogus - yet I found it compulsive viewing .

What would you do if it soon became obvious that they weren't genuine ?

As it progressed there was some impressive acting especially from Juliet Stephenson .

It was horrendous .

I have some privileged friends , who live in a similar pile and when I've stayed with them - I've thought how extremely vulnerable they are .
At night , it's pitch dark and silent without another building for miles .

Being on my own a couple of times dog sitting - I've been unable to sleep !

An exaggerated story maybe , but I enjoyed it even if I didn't get forgotten washing in nor put the recycling out !

I read the Mo Hyder books, they’re very dark. Interesting to see the comments here. I may try it - but start early evening as it sounds unsettling

I watched both episodes but not enjoying it so will give the rest a miss.

Susieq62 Wed 02-Aug-23 11:24:36

Gave up and won’t watch anymore !

SueEH Wed 02-Aug-23 11:43:37

I’m enjoying it - half way through. Admittedly very dark and reminds me of some of the Coen brothers work.

4allweknow Wed 02-Aug-23 11:47:32

Sar23 I'm with you on this. Have watched 3 episodes and curiousity is making me follow the rest. Given the story line, the acting is great.

Bea65 Wed 02-Aug-23 11:48:15

Binge watch on iPlayer...it was a dark comedy but bordering on the ridiculous...

Cossy Wed 02-Aug-23 11:48:23

I’m really enjoying it, there’s something about it and it is my sort of thing ! I don’t thing the acting is bad, the two fake policeman baddies are meant to be very passive aggressive and completely bonkers, we’ve watched up to episode 3 on Iplayer so far, I completely understand who it won’t appeal to many, it’s very gruesome. I understand it’s based on a novel (but I could be wrong) I’m looking forward to seeing how the various storylines pull together - those who don’t like “gruesome” please don’t watch anymore, it does get worse.

garnet25 Wed 02-Aug-23 11:52:24

Was going to watch it but now will give it a miss.

gillyjp Wed 02-Aug-23 11:57:34

I watched last night's episode from behind a cushion with my hands over my ears but kept asking my husband 'What's happening?' It disturbed me tbh and I certainly wouldn't watch it if I was alone in the house. Don't forget when those two 'bogus' policemen turned up the family, especially the wife was pretty much a bag of nerves anyway and maybe in her relief welcomed them in. Let that be a lesson to us all! DH was keen to binge watch but I said no! I'd seen enough by then but nevertheless we'll definitely be watching the future episodes if my nerves can handle it.

I agree.
My OH hates it.

Dinahmo Wed 02-Aug-23 12:18:51

We've both enjoyed it and will be watching the rest.

Ilovedragonflies Wed 02-Aug-23 12:33:54

I admit to binge watching it and really enjoyed it. I thought the two stories running adjacent to each other (Jack's missing brother & the 'terrorising cops') was cleverly done. Dark humour indeed - just my cup of tea.

CrazyMazy Wed 02-Aug-23 12:34:09

I enjoyed the first episode and actually enjoyed the ‘dark’ humour. It was cleverly put together. But I found the second episode quite disturbing. Maybe it was my mood at the time. So DH and I have decided to binge watch sometime during the day! Maybe less disturbing?

Widnesbabcia Wed 02-Aug-23 12:51:14

I loved it .. absolutely crazy but addictive

Lizzie44 Wed 02-Aug-23 12:51:33

Read a review and knew it wasn't for me. Can't bear gruesome.

Petalpop Wed 02-Aug-23 12:53:09

Love it. Will watch the rest on iPlayer this evening.

BeneathTheHowlingStars Wed 02-Aug-23 13:09:30

I am really enjoying it. I love stuff like that.

Sar53 Wed 02-Aug-23 13:16:17

I'm glad I am not the only one 'enjoying' it even though I watch clutching a cushion.
All of Mo Hayder's books were like this, very dark, gruesome and disturbing.
It would be a sad world if we all liked or disliked the same thing.
Even DH is watching with me and he doesn't watch much that I like.

Romola Wed 02-Aug-23 13:21:19

Watched the first episode and cancelled the recordings of subsequent ones, put off by superfluously gruesome clips of the next episode.

Candelle Wed 02-Aug-23 13:23:13

I watched the first episode thinking that some programmes are slow burners and I ought give it a chance.

Last night, episode two, I turned over as the violence and terror is not for me.

Those that watch to end, perhaps give an update/critique as to whether it improved or even 'you missed a good'un'!

As32 Wed 02-Aug-23 14:16:44

Second episode reminded me of scenes from a clockwork orange…..though not as disturbing

BridgetPark Wed 02-Aug-23 14:36:56

This is a wonderful adult drama, all the better for not being predictable and samey as other drama's. It is good to have something different to watch, sick of plastic reality shows,so lets celebrate having a gritty mature programme to get our teeth into. Well done to all the cast, excellent acting.

Callistemon21 Wed 02-Aug-23 14:49:42

Last night, episode two, I turned over as the violence and terror is not for me

Thanks for the warning, I might give it a miss then 🙂
