I assumed this was for children, but have recently seen adults on social media raving about it. Has anyone seen it?

I haven't but I saw the quite lengthy trailer in the cinema and it looks great fun. a friend too her grandchildren to it and she wondered whether it was quite suitable. Its a PG I believe.

Who knew - apparently it is a feminist movie and feminism is very unpopular in South Korea, so has done very badly there.

If I had to guess, I would have assumed quite the opposite!!

Not that I fancy it tbh.

My 15yr old granddaughter and friends went to see it and they all hated it! "Itwas sooooo bad and soooo cringy" I was informed😁
Maybe better for younger kids and adults 🤷🏼

Yes seen it with D… we both thought it was funny, empowering without man- shaming… feel good movie not for younger children PG rated

I went to see it with my daughters and grandaughters. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Thought provoking and laugh out loud funny. Sparked a long conversation with my 12 year old grandaughter about feminisn and what it’s like to be a woman now and in the past.

We are in the cinema at this moment waiting for Barbie to start. It was something my daughter wanted to see and the weather is so revolting it seemed a way to stay out of it.
We’ve got my grandchildren with us and I hope the rest of the cinema wasn’t too affronted by me explaining what circumcision is to my grandaughter…she picks her moment!

I'm thinking we might go and see it now....

Not for younger kids because they just wouldn’t get it! Adults, yes.

Sooze58 Sat 05-Aug-23 11:18:32

Definitely for adults - kids wouldn’t get it.

Totally agree - went with DiL, granddaughters and girl friends, sparked lengthy discussions about women role in society, expectations of perfection, women's voices not being heard. Would highly recommend

My 37 year old daughter went with a friend. They’d both loved their Barbie ski shop, barbie hairdressers - big Christmas present as children.
They enjoyed the film a lot. My 25 year old grandson went with his 28 year old girlfriend as part of her birthday celebrations. They agreed it’s a really fun movie

I smiles all the way through and giggled a lot too. Loads of messages and references if you stay alert!

I went to see Mission Impossible recently and when I was leaving there were millions of little girls in the foyer all dressed in pink, so obviously going to see Barbie. I hope they enjoyed it.

Makes the feminist argument startingly clear. Clever and funny but not for children in my opinion. Thoroughly worth-while seeing and thought provoking.

No, I have no yearnings to see it.

Babamaman Sat 05-Aug-23 11:46:31

My Rabbi who is a 50yr old married man with 3 children said he went last week on his own and saw it! And said it was quite a disturbing film - it is a 12+ mostly because children won’t understand the quips! And undertones. Quite disturbing how Barbie discovers her origins and Ken is so misogynic!
Will wait until it’s out on tv -

My daughter said it was hilarious. And my 15 yr old grandson also loved it!

I went with my friend, we’re both 67, on the opening day - fabulous! Everyone should see this film during this time of miserable and dire weather, news, political situation, economy etc. I smiled all the way through, laugh out loud moments too, definitely a feel good factor film (should be prescribed at the drs) plus Ryan Gosling is pretty amazing.

Love Ryan Gosling. Went with daughter and granddaughter but it was full so had to watch rubbish cartoon instead.

Went with 2 of my adult daughters. Was really looking forward to seeing it after hearing all the hype but was very disappointed. One of my daughters enjoyed it but the other didn’t but we all agreed that if there was a Barbie 2, we wouldn’t bother seeing it.
