Only another month to go so I thought we'd better get the new thread up and running smile

I don't know many of this year's contestants so far but I guess we'll get to know them as the show continues. I see there are already comments that some of them have previous dance training.

Sparklefizz Tue 24-Oct-23 07:54:31

As Amanda has gone, the show should forego an eviction this Saturday to keep the numbers up, and maybe have Gio and other dancers without partners do an extra pros dance to fill in the gap!

Mollygo Tue 24-Oct-23 07:17:00

They might even . . . stop pretending the dance off happens on Sunday!

Calendargirl Tue 24-Oct-23 06:58:03

Amanda leaving will mean even more ‘padding out’, with Claudia asking still more inane questions, “Oh, your little face when you knew you were through!” (yes, I realise that’s the Sunday show), or Tess, “Wow, everyone’s on their feet!”

At least they’ll probably shorten the time by another ten minutes.

I know very little about the back story, the trans rights issue, I don’t know the rights or wrongs, but maybe the BBC didn’t choose their celebrities very wisely, considering the strong feelings about her.

Joseann Mon 23-Oct-23 22:25:20

I thought Amanda's dancing was good, I was hoping she and Giovanni would be back for Halloween.

Lollin Mon 23-Oct-23 22:16:09

So sorry Amanda has had to make this decision. It sounds as though it was tough one to make but she had to put her own self first and possibly those who love her too. No one likes to see loved ones suffer. She has truly been a delight to watch.

Sparklefizz Mon 23-Oct-23 19:49:58

Oh no!! Such a shame. I thought Amanda and Gio danced beautifully together and I voted for them each week.

Bet Gio is gutted.

Sara1954 Mon 23-Oct-23 19:36:18

Great shame, I have really enjoyed their routines, I’m sure the decision wasn’t made lightly x

Millie22 Mon 23-Oct-23 19:09:13

That is such a shame as she was really good and poor Giovanni.

Another year when he will miss the Halloween show when he used to always be at the top of the leader board.

TillyTrotter Mon 23-Oct-23 18:35:48

Amanda has withdrawn - the Show has made an announcements 5 minutes ago on “It Takes Two”.
Such a shame as she was darned good,
but if she was unhappy then it just is not worth it.
Health has to come first.

Sara1954 Mon 23-Oct-23 17:57:15

Lemsip
Probably not, but it did make me think.
When my grandchildren lived here we all watched it, they had their favourites, who they voted for.
I’m not saying it’s any competition for love island, but I could see where she’s coming from.

lemsip Mon 23-Oct-23 17:29:44

Sara1954 I don't think the show is aimed at the young! just saying!

my granddaughters certainly wouldn't watch.

Amanda Abbington QUITS Strictly Come Dancing and is 'left devastated after her time on the show was plagued by difficulties'
www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-12662659/Amanda-Abbington-QUITS-Strictly-Come-Dancing-suffering-setbacks-sharing-quote-mental-health.html

I bet Giovanni is devastated too!

Sara1954 Mon 23-Oct-23 17:24:02

I’ve got two granddaughters staying, we had been out and rushed
straight back home for the results show.
One of them always watched it with me when she was younger, and was giving her cousin a rundown of the show, and she asked why are there so many old people in it? The judges are all old, some of the celebs are really old, even some of the pros are really old (Karen)
Well, I don’t think of them all as old, but I’m wondering if this is the best way to attract a younger audience.

I wish I could do what Angela Rippon can. However, I do feel she is being overmarked. That Argentine tango had very little Argentine in it.

Clawdy Mon 23-Oct-23 17:09:46

Oops, maybe got that wrong, she may return next week.....

Clawdy Mon 23-Oct-23 17:04:32

Just heard Amanda A is leaving Strictly. Such a shame, I liked her.

TillyTrotter Mon 23-Oct-23 14:36:37

Debbie was so flexible, a superb dancer and we called her the “older lady” Contestant but Angela is a whole 2 decades older!

Sparklefizz Mon 23-Oct-23 12:11:07

Absolutely fabulous Debbie & Gio. Thanks for that link Joseann.

I remember all her dances well. She was criticised because she had done ballet in her 20s. I think she was in her 60s when she was on Strictly. Gio didn't choreograph slow versions of everything so that she could keep up, and her whole body was much more flexible than Angela R's. I remember voting for her.

Here are Debbie and Gio doing the Jive.

Joseann Mon 23-Oct-23 11:32:57

Thanks for the interesting links.
In my opinion, this was one of the best tangos if you want to compare Debbie with Angela. (I can't remember the exact age difference though).

It is harder to be the male Celebrity in these strong dances.

Mark & Karen’s fabulous A Tango

annodomini Mon 23-Oct-23 10:38:49

An early performance on Strictly of the Argentine Tango was by Mark Ramprakash and Karen Hardie. It might have been the first ever on Strictly and was sensational. They went on the win the glitter ball.

TillyTrotter Mon 23-Oct-23 09:19:49

😂

Sparklefizz Mon 23-Oct-23 09:14:08

They certainly did Tilly.
It must be very hard to dance anything romantic if you don't happen to like your partner very much. I have one of those faces that shows what I'm thinking so I'd be no good (let alone the footwork grin )

TillyTrotter Mon 23-Oct-23 08:57:25

Thanks Sparklefizz .
The chemistry between the two dancers has to be there for the Rumba and oh boy, they had it in buckets 😛
