Only another month to go so I thought we'd better get the new thread up and running smile

I don't know many of this year's contestants so far but I guess we'll get to know them as the show continues. I see there are already comments that some of them have previous dance training.

Just been announced that Amanda and Giovanni have a bye into next week due to medical reasons.

Hope they’ll be better by the next one.

I agree ... and that's partly what makes it such an uplifting show to watch I think.

I'm sure someone will have already said this, but the thing I really love about Strictly is that even though they are all competing as hard as they can, the camaraderie and positive support between both professionals and celebrities for each other is a great example.

I know it can seem overdone, but it is such a positive message of how you can compete without putting people down; how competition doesn't have to be aggressive; and recently how men can dance with men and women with women. The whole show comes across as very warm and I feel it is an excellent example to us all of caring for each other.

Oh dear, our local (ish) lad voted out, shame, but it was the right decision.

Sparklefizz Sun 15-Oct-23 19:57:17

Every time I see Tess's dress, I keep wanting to sew a few darts into it! grin

Joseann Sun 15-Oct-23 19:55:17

Eddie moved far better this time.

merlotgran Sun 15-Oct-23 19:55:00

Poor Jody. He was brave to keep going.

Sparklefizz Sun 15-Oct-23 19:53:27

Oh dear Jody. But really I think he needs to make looking after his leg a priority as someone mentioned a few pages back.

Joseann Sun 15-Oct-23 19:53:14

Oh no, that looked precarious Jody. sad

Sparklefizz Sun 15-Oct-23 19:36:40

Beverley Knight's miming.

TillyTrotter Sun 15-Oct-23 19:36:30

Has Beverley Knight got that voluminous hair from Motsi’s dressing room?

TillyTrotter Sun 15-Oct-23 19:36:00

Pleased Zara got voted through by the public 😊
I feel it will be Jody, in the DO.

Sparklefizz Sun 15-Oct-23 19:31:27

Callistemon No idea about the washing on the line.

Sparklefizz Sun 15-Oct-23 19:30:46

Not surprised that Eddie's in the dance off. Think the other one will be Jody.

I didn't rate the opening dance. It was too disjointed I thought.

Why was their washing on the line?

Was there a significance? (Sorry, I wasn't really concentrating).

Sweetpeasue Sun 15-Oct-23 19:24:28

I agree Sparklefizz All that sliding up n down the roof. 🤔

My favourite was Annabelle. With that dress, that dance, and that elegance, she looked like Mrs. Kensington from the Austin Powers films.

^I agree GrandmaBatty that Angela R is being overmarked (and over praised), but this is a TV show more than a dance competition, and I think they want to keep certain contestants in for as long as possible to add variety.^

This, absolutely!

I've given her a 10 for running up the stairs 💃

Actually I don't think Layton is "used to harsh criticism" because he has looked quite annoyed when he's given advice and criticism by the judges. I think being awarded that 10 by Shirley so early on made him rather smug.

I thinkLayton is a very good dancer but of a certain style and I doubt if he can change that.
To an extent I agree with Grandmabatty, because stage school doesn't teach Ballroom and Latin dancing, and Italia Conti is particularly focused on teaching Contemporary and Tap.
It is, however, possible to work hard and become proficient in a different style of dance, and I think Layton is the pushy type who might rise to the challenge in order to achieve success.
He will be used to harsh criticism. I joined stage school after many years of Classical Ballet, and when performing Modern and Tap I was initially told I looked like I had wet my knickers because I was so turned out. That soon corrected me! 😆

Although I appreciate Layton's great talent as a dancer I am finding it increasingly difficult to watch him perform.
Once he gets in front of the cameras he cheapens his performance with too much innuendo played for the benefit of (some) of the audience.

Yes.
It is a bit like that song
It’s all about me
It’s all about me baby.

Grandmabatty Sun 15-Oct-23 13:12:05

I think Layton is a very good dancer but of a certain style and I doubt if he can change that. Therefore his dances are quite similar in a weird way. I still think Angela Rippon is being overmarked and given an easy ride.
