Only another month to go so I thought we'd better get the new thread up and running smile

I don't know many of this year's contestants so far but I guess we'll get to know them as the show continues. I see there are already comments that some of them have previous dance training.

The only drawback until the end of October is the overlap with the Rugby World Cup. Or is that just me?

Attlee Sat 23-Sept-23 22:12:13

annodomini, I think I know who you mean, but it doesn't always work out like that does it?
It gets annoying when better dancers start to get voted off, for the entertainment value

No, the remote has been in use several times this evening!

This programme is well past it's sell by date, better than this has been shelved after a much shorter time!!

6.6 million viewers might disagree with you, Val60

And it had to compete with the rugby this time.

Nobody is forced to watch it however it’s obviously still extremely popular or it wouldn’t have a prime time Saturday evening slot.

Sara1954 Sun 24-Sept-23 14:30:07

Yes, bits of it are a tiny bit irritating, but overall it’s a wonderful show.
The dancing can be breathtaking, or hilarious, either is good.
The costumes, the music, all fabulous.
Of course it isn’t past it’s sell by date.

I agree with you on that one. Also the Strictly live tour with tickets at ridiculous prices is usually a sellout.

Do you remember when there were only two channels and the only other option was the off button?
Thank heavens we can choose to watch something else if we don’t like SCD now.
I must admit, I’m grateful for the record, fast forward and even mute facilities, but the entertainment is still there to enjoy or criticise.

OurKid1 Sun 24-Sept-23 15:22:37

Strictly's started. So ... Christmas is coming!! (Sorry)

I can remember when there was only one! 😁

We record and fast forward past all the ‘Gumpth’.
Loved Nigel, Amanda, the girl who did the jive and Angela S.
Won’t mention Les. Angela Rippon was good , considering her age but her head was leading the way. While I wish I could get my leg up like that by any means, I didn’t think she kicked it up. It was sort of pulled .

Grandmabatty Sun 24-Sept-23 16:08:49

There were some pleasant surprises, and a few who struggled. I think Angela Rippon is marvellous but limited. Nigel was a revelation. And Les. Oh dear. If he's ever in the dance off, he's away home. But I wish they would update the programme and there's too much lovey stuff

Nanatoone Sun 24-Sept-23 18:17:31

I was referring to losing my own husband, I didn’t know about Annebelle. It was Amanda’s dance that made me club, the music, the lyrics, the dance itself but I loved Annabelle’s beautiful form and grace.

Parsley3 Sun 24-Sept-23 18:23:44

Poor stecky Les. He may surprise us though by making great improvements like Bill Bailey did. I too whizz through the gushy nonsense to get to the actual dancing.

Callistemon21 Sun 24-Sept-23 18:30:18

I think Les will be the fun competitor. 🙂

As for Nigel, I have to get past the thoroughly dislikeable character he plays in Casualty.
But I'm not finding it easy.

Sara1954 Sun 24-Sept-23 18:49:39

I’ve never seen Casualty, and I’ve never heard of him before.
But he’s rather easy on the eye, and seems to be an exceptional dancer

Calendargirl Sun 24-Sept-23 21:07:13

Wasn’t Nigel the nasty valet who raped Anna in Downton Abbey also?

(Another unlikeable character unfortunately).

Yes, I think he was!

Oh dear. He needs to redeem himself.

Callistemon21 Sun 24-Sept-23 22:17:16

He's another one with dance experience having appeared in stage musicals.

lemsip Wed 27-Sept-23 13:36:35

looking forward to next weeks dancing and who goes.

DanniRae Fri 29-Sept-23 07:19:45

I think if Les doesn't go then somethings wrong. He's a nice enough bloke but really not very good at dancing! shock

Sparklefizz Sat 30-Sept-23 10:16:10

We're able to vote tonight!
Les may stay in for entertainment value, but I get cross when later on good dancers are voted out and someone like Tony Adams stays in. We shall see .....
Catch you later smile

Grannynannywanny Sat 30-Sept-23 10:22:00

Looking forward to tonight’s show. My 17 year old granddaughter is coming shortly to stay overnight and we’re going to watch it together.

I read yesterday that Adam Thomas has fairly recently been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. I hope the strenuous training doesn’t leave him prone to injury.
