Very good ending. No Disney style reunion thank goodness.

This is the BBC at its best! Fantastic acting and drama.
Making us face recent history and hopefully question it.
Ruth Wilson deserves a BAFTA.

That was an intense hour, brilliant series.

Heartbreaking and horrific in equal measure. The fact that people are still fighting for the truth, both in Northern and Southern Ireland is just wrong on every level

It was very good. I plan to watch it all again when I get the chance. I think a lot of things that were confusing at the beginning will fall into place.

Good series made even more scary by being based on truth. How those women suffered throughout their lives.

Oh my, heart wrenching…… yes much better than a disneyesque ending.

The scene last night was heart wrenching when the women were gathered in the social club discussing their horrific experiences in the convent. I usually hate to see violence but I confess I cheered when the local man with his disgusting comments was floored by a punch from that poor woman.

Brillant series.
What we have to remember is that it was not only in Ireland. During my time at Grammar school I saw three girls suffer similar things. Probably not with the cruel treatment of the Magdalen laundries but it certainly affected two of them for the rest of their lives. The third was eventually allowed to bring the baby home and marry without pressure when she was old enough the babies father.

Superb.Difficult to watch but one of the best. My goodness what they went through,not only in the laundries but for the rest of their lives.Heart breaking at times,

The girl who came knocking on the door and accompanied Ruth Wilson to the creepy house, saying she was Aoife's daughter but was lying because she didn't know "her father" was in prison, was she the young secretary that was chased and arrested?

I didn't think much of the first two episodes but carried on watching because there's not a lot else on a Sunday evening. After episode 3 I was hooked. Thought it was very, very good - with some splendid emotional scenes.

How did the woman in the wall end up in the attic, though? Did I miss a bit?

Brilliant series and very thought provoking about the actions of the nuns. Trying hard to piece some of the past episodes together. Where did the red book come from ?

This is why I wish everything was put on iPlayer etc. If people prefer weekly viewing they can still do it, but fleabrains like me can follow the intricacies better. I always had to record Line of Duty and watch the previous episode ahead of the one being aired

I wasn't very impressed with the first episode but think it developed very well.

I recall a documentary in which an Irish lady, keen on history, starting looking at the birth, death, and burial records of a convent and found that the numbers didn't tally. Eventually, some of the grounds were excavated and many bodies of babies and young children were found. Long Lost Family has also referred to the number of babies who had been found to have been taken from their mothers and given to adoptive parents. Their birth certificates were falsified, in that the adoptive parents' names were recorded, but not the birth parent/s. That was a deliberate, and absolutely, illegal act.

So the Woman in the Wall wasn't so far from reality.

* Cabowitch* I had to ask that very question and was told when she was put behind the wall she was believed to be dead but she was going in and out of consciousness and wandered through the attic trying to get out and obviously then died in a different area

She had some sort of catalepsy, I think.

Boz yes, she was. (I found it confusing too, but a very good article in the Radio Times explained it all. She was in cahoots with the child traffickers and got involved at various stages e.g. the priest coughing so in other words he wasn't dead when Aoife left, so young secretary was sent to finish him off).

Thanks Retread. I see now. Another female victim of the Church, who capitalised on her willingness to do anything for them; even murder.
