I've just watched A Timeless Christmas on Channel 5 and really enjoyed it. Most of the movies in this genre are very predictable but this one had a better plot than many.

'Miracle on 42nd Street' is my absolute favourite, both the ancient and modern versions - I watch them every year with a box of tissues!

Christmas With The Kranks
Nativity 1, 2 and 3
Home Alone 1 and 2
Santa Claus the movie
The Grinch
Love Actually
Deck The Halls
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

I do love a Christmas film!

I’m with bluebell fed up with Christmas and we’ve got Halloween bonfire night then another 6 weeks before Christmas. Please leave it in December where it belongs.

I m sick and tired of Christmas already and we haven’t had Halloween yet 😱

Oh me too

Jesus. Why do people wish their life away. I can slightly understand people planning maybe a week ahead with food but thinking about Xmas fils in OCTOBER , jeez 🤦🏼‍♀️

It’s no different to planning a summer holiday in the middle of winter .

Ziplok Tue 24-Oct-23 14:35:10

Yes, that’s the one, Dottynan. Thank you 😁.

It’s a wonderful Life, of course, that will always be my number one.
But I have to say, my grandchildren and I have watched the Nativity films many times, and we love them x

Oh Four Christmas’s ( I think it’s called that) is hilarious.
Another film we watch every year, and still find funny is The Worst Christmas of my Life

A boy called Christmas
Arthur Christmas
All the Raymond Briggs

I love Arthur Christmas and I HATE Elf the stupid actor who plays him ( whose name escapes me) drives me mad , but then I haven’t ever liked him in any film

Always, The Snowman and White Christmas have become a tradition in my family but I also enjoy some lighthearted contemporary Christmas movies.

It isn’t really a Christmas film, more a rite of passage film about winter, but I love The Last Winter, a Canadian film made in 1989. It used to be on tv occasionally but I haven’t seen it on tv for years. I can’t buy it on dvd as it’s only available in American format but I think I’ve got it on video somewhere. I used to love these rite of passage films and no one does them better than the Americans and Canadians. I do like Last Christmas albeit disliking it when I first saw it: watched it again and it’s grown on me. I actually loved The Holiday from the first time I saw it even though I’m no fan of rom coms.

Loved this film, watched it last year and really enjoyed it. Can’t beat Channel 5’s Christmas films, some are very cheesy but curled up in front of the fire with a mince pie, can’t beat it. Still a bit early though

Home Alone 1 & 2
Muppets Christmas Carol
The Holiday
Love Actually
Any ballet
And for a foreign film choice, Joyeux Noel about a Christmas night during WW1.

Every Christmas eve it is traditional for us as a family to watch A Childs Christmas In Wales filmed in 1987, originally written by Dylan Thomas

N4nna Tue 24-Oct-23 16:56:39

The Grinch!!! It’s watched all year round. The Grandchildren and Grandad love it!!!

Dempie55 Tue 24-Oct-23 17:05:18

My two favourites are less well known:

The Bishop's Wife with Cary Grant, David Niven and Loretta Young. Cary Grant is an angel sent to help David Niven, who is a vicar. It's B&W, but beautifully shot.

A Christmas Story - about a little boy in 1940s USA who wants a BB gun for Christmas - it's delightful.

Grandmabatty Tue 24-Oct-23 17:16:57

Dottynan "Bring out the tall tales told as we sit by the fire." Read by Richard Burton, it's beautiful.

The only voice that ever gave me goosebumps was that of Richard Burton. I think I could listen to him forever, reading anything.

One Magic Christmas is a lovely little film. Not one of the more popular films but it's our favourite.

I love Christmas 🎄 ♥️
