Calling all Beatles fans.

I just discovered that today 2nd November at 2pm they are releasing their very final track called Now and Then which features cleaned up vocals of John Lennon plus lots of other magical effects thanks to AI. Here's a 12 min film about it:

I loved it and found the video incredibly moving. Wonderful.

Treebee Fri 03-Nov-23 18:56:20

I love it. Brought me to tears when George’s guitar solo started. Great video too.

The song aside (which is ok) the video is an absolute beauty.

Well, I think it’s fab. I’ve been playing it all day, just like when I was 15.

You can see why it wasn’t released at the time. Not dreadful ,just dreary.

Wow, the video and the song together are just amazing. John's voice has a yearning quality which is so moving. The Beatles sound is so strong, it's almost like stepping back 50 years.

I've been a lifelong Beatles fan since the start. I posted earlier that I was disappointed in this song, but now having watched the video and song together, I am in tears. As Chestnutsays, "it's almost like stepping back 50 years". I'm in tears for that era and the teenage me, and all the memories that Beatles songs invoke.

The Beatles wrote some amazing songs, this isn't one of them.I think it might have been better to leave it in the past.

There are in fact many great new songwriters and singers around today ,I'll support them and not McCartneys bank balance .

I feel it's a bit of a cheat. Not at all awful but I wish they hadn't done it.

I have listened to it.
I doubt I’ll bother again.
Call me a cynic but Hype = profit.

Being a Liverpudlian I think it’s assumed that every scouser liked the Beatles I didn’t. I think individually they were far more successful I wasn’t impressed when I heard the latest record.

There are some dreadful videos about, a couple with a Lennon lookalike jumping about like an eejit. Others are ‘fans’ saying stuff like, “ I fell to the floor sobbing”, or, “ I am still crying, I’m devastated”.

I saw now& then album listed yesterday among a whole list of aɓout 150 albums worth much more than was paid for them‐ various different artists- Does this mean that one was unfinished? Or that they have just 'tampered' with it to improve the sound & then re-release it? I am not a Beatles fan but it was very definitely that name- it showed pics on cover of them from back when they began & another more 'modern' but seemed to be 70 or 80's style?🤔

Not sure about whether it was right to resurrect this track with George Harrison and John Lennon both being dead and unable to give their consent. Surely if they had all thought it was good, it would have been released properly at the time? I found it a bit spooky.

So NOT a new track track then.As Paddyanne said- McCartney needs a boost now -as he had to give Heather Mills half his fortune.

I have some trouble at the moment with my tv channels so sat with the beatles programme on the laptop and oh have been singing along with all the songs that I remember very well. I was a definite Beatles fan - not rolling stones, and I am a singer so could soon sing all the various ones they made. Was asked to go to Chester for a weekend to take a german engineer , who had little or no english about. We went all round Chester and went for coffee on the ros etc and wherever we went at that time The Yellow Submarine was on with everyone joining in and banging tables. Loved the Yellow Submarine in the garden festival. My son when young used to say "dont sing loud will you mummy" at the carol concert or whatever at school, as he was embarrased by a mother who was different. Suddenly years later, the Beatles had a revival and it was all on the radio and now the fact tht Mummy knew all the words and music was cool!! Loved seeing them all and although didnt think much to the new recording in particular, it was a very clever thing to do. How sad that John was killed but we have been lucky to have the beautiful melodies that Paul has written to enjoy. Carry on singing folks !

I think the track was such a John song, like Jealous Guy and Woman, and trying to make it a Beatles song hasn't really worked. He'd moved on and wasn't really writing for the Beatles. Still it will probably make loads of money.

I watched a programme called ‘The Beatles at the BBC’ last night, which ended with Paul McCartney introducing the new track.

The programme is a good watch for Beatles fans like me!

For anyone asking those questions, this 12 min film explains the story behind this track, why it wasn't released all those years ago and how it was created which is amazing:

Dreary is the only way I can describe it. I like the concept, but the actual song is weak and miserable.

Nightsky2 Sun 05-Nov-23 12:58:19

Not one of their best.

win Sun 05-Nov-23 13:00:11

It will be a hit for funerals

JaneJudge Sun 05-Nov-23 13:02:39

I thought it had a touch of Kermit about it blush
