We're ready for Blackpool !

rafichagran Sat 02-Dec-23 22:21:22

I loved Leytons dance tonight.

Joseann

I think we underestimate the amount of hatred Layton has had to put up with on social media. Say what you like, but he has always carried on and given of his best.

Oh I totally agree. And it's quite awful to read.

He's just brilliant.

TillyTrotter Sat 02-Dec-23 22:46:58

I thought that ginny .
I made negative comments on Layton’s style of dance last week but he does not deserve vitriol.
He is a human being like us all and possesses talent and immense drive.

He seems to be a lovely young man.
The only thing I had reservations about was his experience in dance and choreography which I thought was unfair.

I have seen nothing horrible about Leyton to be honest but I'm not on Facebook and don't follow anything to do with Strictly on Twitter or Instagram.

Where has everyone seen all the hatred? I'm amazed.

Mollygo Sat 02-Dec-23 23:27:53

I haven’t read any vitriol-perhaps I’m on the wrong social media.
Lots of comments about his previous dance experience and whether posters like his style of dancing, but vitriol?

Charleygirl5 Sat 02-Dec-23 23:36:33

Yes, Layton has had a lot of previous dance experience but he was invited on to the show. Being in the dance-off last week obviously upset him - I thought he did so well tonight and I prefer to see him not wearing a dress.

I agree, Ellie's dance was so "busy" with so many professional dancers around. She also has had previous experience but she is a fabulous dancer.

If it comes back next year, fewer celebs and lose the Sunday night nonsense.

From memory I thought they only danced x2 in the final.

It felt a rather flat show but I imagine it was hard to rearrange a running order at such short notice.

If I understood Nigel correctly, someone failed to catch him during rehearsals? It sounded really nasty whatever.

I thought "hatred" a bit strong too but according to the Digital Spy forum, there have been really foul, homophobic comments addressed to him on social media.

I know I've said it before, I'd pay good money to watch him dance: he's terrific, and I hope Strictly really boosts his career.
I still don't think someone with that level of expertise is the right fit for this kind of competition.

Ailidh Sun 03-Dec-23 06:10:27

*Him meaning Layton

Clawdy Sun 03-Dec-23 08:04:03

Interesting to see how they will get through tonight's show.

Calendargirl Sun 03-Dec-23 08:26:36

Apart from the grumbles about his previous dance experience I haven’t seen anything else nasty about Layton, but don’t read Twitter/X or anything.

Motsi certainly made reference to what he’s been subjected to on SM or similar, which is another reason why I think the judges will be on his side, apart from his dancing.

If there had been a vote, I think Bobby was the worst performance last night, and should have gone. The whole routine just didn’t work.

TillyTrotter Sun 03-Dec-23 08:30:57

Yes vitriol Mollygo .
Layton has suffered much malice from so-called trolls on social media.

Joseann Sun 03-Dec-23 09:17:05

I very rarely, if ever, use the word "hate" or "hatred", but this was from Layton himself:
Instead of coming at me with hateful comments, use your energy to shower your fave celeb with love instead. Pretty sure it will make us all feel much better!
The nasty comments go beyond criticising his having dance experience.

Joseann Sun 03-Dec-23 09:20:30

I might be repeating your comment here TillyTrotter, but I can't seem to.open the link to check. Sorry.
Mine comes from Layton's own page.

That sounds like the fault of the production team because they don’t rehearse on the actual set until the last minute.

eazybee Sun 03-Dec-23 09:41:34

I am sorry if you are offended by my comment; I am aware of Layton's extreme talent as a dancer but I find his performances an uncomfortable parody of 'partnered dancing' and very difficult to watch.

Anniebach Sun 03-Dec-23 09:53:24

I am irritated by Layton , have no wish to see him every day
hugging and snuggling up to Nikita

Joseann Sun 03-Dec-23 10:04:32

But that's the whole thing about the performance world, especially the show Strictly. It is designed to create intrigue and some contestants, even professionals, will play on this.

lemsip Sun 03-Dec-23 10:46:09

The princess of wales visited the strictly studios with Charlotte and Louis yesterday.
The three were said to have watched the Strictly stars rehearse as they got a behind the scenes sneak peak of what was to come in Saturday's show. During their two-hour visit, they were also given a tour of the costume department and Louis tried on a small gold crown as he stood on the balcony where the contestants gather above the dance floor. Kate took pictures of the children in the judges chairs.

henetha Sun 03-Dec-23 11:01:27

I think Layton has wonderful talent and he's already a star in my opinion. I suspect Hollywood might snap him up, but I hope not really.
It's a sad world when trolls are so malicious.

Sparklefizz Sun 03-Dec-23 11:31:48

I feel sad and sorry that Layton has been on the receiving end of so much hatred online. It's disgusting! What is wrong with people??

He's a brilliant dancer and magnetic to watch. I still think that it's not right that an already talented dancer should be competing against non-dancers but I can't deny that he's been a joy to watch, especially last night.

I have just rewatched the whole show and I wish the judges would match their marks to their comments (Shirley!!!)

maddyone Sun 03-Dec-23 11:56:53

I loved Layton and Nikita’s dance last night, absolutely loved it but I don’t think Layton should be in this competition at all. I’ve always held this view and despite loving their dance last night, my view hasn’t changed. As a boy he played Billy Elliott in the musical and therefore is not an amateur. Professionals should not be competing in a dance competition for amateur dancers in my opinion.

TillyTrotter Sun 03-Dec-23 13:31:21

I thought Layton’s dance was Fab-u-lous too, that and the Argentine Tango he performed with Nikita a couple of weeks ago.
As viewers we are unlikely ever to see performances on Strictly that top them. The all-male partnership gives it an extra dimension for me.

dogsmother Sun 03-Dec-23 15:50:41

Well easybee and any other uncomfortable watcher if Layton was my son all I would feel would be immense pride in him.

NotSpaghetti Sun 03-Dec-23 16:27:28

If Layton was my son I would feel slightly uncomfortable about it but my love for him would overshadow any misgivings about his participation in it and I would say "well they asked him so that makes it all right."
A mother's love would "excuse" him - and I would of course be SO pleased he was SO talented though!
