We're ready for Blackpool !

Callistemon21 Sat 09-Dec-23 21:17:22

Oh ok. Ludicrous it is then!!

😂😂😂

This dance experience people talk of with regard to Layton. In sure you appreciate ballroom dancing is very different to dancing in musical theatre.

I'd love him to win because he's superb but he won't, for many reasons.

I think someone on GN is repulsed by him. Don't think that had anything to do with previous dance experience

Well, I've voted - 1 vote for Bobby and 2 for Ellie.

I am not homophobic aquagran and I don't believe British viewers are, but I can't vote for Layton when he has had over a decade of dance experience under his belt.

Leyton is the best by far, he was invited on to the show, he did not know ball room.
It's up to people how they vote, but I think not voting for him because he has experience is wrong, maybe we should have X 10 Les Dennis if people feel like that, and will not vote for the best.
Leyton will get my votes.
I must add though I dont agree with Aqua that people will not vote for him because they are homophobic, I think they dont like the fact that he has done proffesionnal dancing, even though others have as well.

Sara1954 Sat 09-Dec-23 21:20:00

Well that was a really good night
I voted Ellie, Leyton and Bobby, I think Annabelle has been amazing, but she’s not in the same league as the others.
Favourite dances tonight, Bobbys quickstep and that totally amazing Charleston.

Fleur20 Sat 09-Dec-23 21:36:46

I thought that the idea of Strictly was the progress made from the start and the development of talent as the season went on.
On that basis I think Annabel should win.
No previous dance experience compared to the rest having done stage school etc.
No acting experience... which in itself builds confidence and also enhances the 'performance' of every routine.

I am a huge Layton fan, but I am concerned that if he wins Strictly it will set a precedent for more dancers with experience to take part in the show.
It would be easy to trawl round the West End and scoop up dancers from musicals like Cabaret, Dirty Dancing, Hamilton, Guys and dolls, Moulin Rouge etc. The contestant would then put on spectacularly polished performances, but is that actually fair?

Callistemon21 Sat 09-Dec-23 21:42:33

No.

At the start of the series I wouldn’t vote for Leyton because I felt it wasn’t a level playing field for the reasons you’ve given. But as time has passed, and he’s given us some absolutely stunning routines, it would seem wrong not to vote for him.
I don’t think he will win, but he’s definitely made this year’s Strictly more entertaining.

maddyone Sat 09-Dec-23 21:52:01

I always find myself drawn to Nikita somehow

He’s a lovely bit of eye candy. I enjoy watching him too.
I loved Layton and Nikita’s Charleston tonight, absolutely loved it. But they shouldn’t win, Layton has a huge unfair advantage over the others.

Sparklefizz

Oh Johannes!! He's so lovely.

Agreed, a most lovely man.

And aquagran it’s a huge generalisation to say viewers are homophobic; viewers are a cross section of every type and point of view that’s represented in society.
And I’m certainly not homophobic, one of my sons is gay, has a gay partner and has an adopted child, my grandchild. I am not homophobic.

I think that would be a different show, probably put on to promote attendance at West End shows. Not a bad publicity idea, and GNs could post about how many West End shows they’ve seen.
Maybe the BBC could be paid for the publicity and lower the license price again.
One of the problems with SCD or any of the public vote programs nowadays, is the lack celebrities who are well-known across all age ranges.

Although Layton may not have danced Ballroom or Latin before, he is used to hours of practice. No aching painful muscles for him like non-dancers who are using muscles they've never used before. Angela Scanlon was having to sit in ice baths, and her feet became infected. Others have lost toenails.

Layton will also be used to picking up choreography quickly whereas other contestants have confessed to needing to be told dozens of times before they grasp it.

Vito has said that Ellie was a shy quiet young woman who didn't think she could do anything much. He mentioned several weeks ago that she panicked at the mention of any lifts so he didn't tell her about them in advance. She has come on in leaps and bounds and has clearly worked very hard.

I love Vito's choreography and ... er ... well, Vito himself! I like when he babbles on in Anglo-Italian like last night when he said they'd be dancing with a stick. Ellie has said that they laugh all the time and I can imagine that. Vito seems good fun.

Joseann Sun 10-Dec-23 11:15:37

Hey, Mollygo, I think we've discovered a great idea for a new show there!
I'll come up with the layout later. Maybe some GNs here would like to step up as presenters. Or even judges!! grin

Yes, but yours was the initial genius! 😁
Incidentally I’ve just realised I dictated license instead of licence and forgot to check what it wrote. Thank heavens this isn’t a pedant’s thread.

Calendargirl Sun 10-Dec-23 14:10:56

As a watcher of Corrie, (even though it’s dire!), I was interested to see Ellie dancing as her acting wasn’t always great.

She comes across as so different to what I expected.

I hope she wins. She deserves to.

And I think Vito is one of the best pros. His dancing is superb.

Joseann Sun 10-Dec-23 14:25:07

Well, I just got put through to the BBC in Portland Place and they are happy to see us all next week about a follow-up GN show based on voting for favourite musicals. My Co Producer Mollygo" and I, (not that I gave her the option to comment), think that *Sparklefizz should be the Presenter because she keeps us all on track. Merlotgran will be stage manager and scenery shifter because she has all the back stage knowledge from her DD and DGD. There's so many of you with top ideas who could be the judges, sound engineers and make-up artists, so I think it best if we meet in John Lewis Oxford Street to discuss before we go in with our plan.
Our objective us to secure free seats to every West End musical so we can scout for talent. Oh and Layton says he will advise on costume! 🕺 💃

Joseann Sun 10-Dec-23 14:26:17

I think I overdid the 🍷 at lunchtime!

maddyone Sun 10-Dec-23 15:28:21

Cheers Joseann, I’m just about to start on the champagne with the family. We are having a late lunch/early dinner today. We’re doing a Christmas dinner for our sons and their families today as we’re going to son number one’s on Christmas Day. DH made the mince pies and I cheated and bought a Christmas pudding.

Oh, and I’ll help with the costumes on the Gransnet Strictly.

Sparklefizz Sun 10-Dec-23 17:01:37

Ooh! Thanks Joseann. Can I wear a sparkly frock? I know Tess’s presenting script as I usually sit here on the sofa and frighten the cat by saying The Judges, and Our Strictly Staaaars without even using an autocue 😲

Mollygo Sun 10-Dec-23 17:06:38

Cheers! 🥂 I’m just enjoying a well earned rest after building a flat pack cupboard for the porch, for all the shoes our visitors may offer to take off this Christmas.
I’d forgotten what a lot of bending, kneeling and screwing was involved since we stopped using flat pack!

Joseann Sun 10-Dec-23 17:15:14

Talking of kneeling, we need a judge like Anton who can jump out of the chair all the time without falling over. Anyone with good knees on here?

Millie22 Sun 10-Dec-23 17:31:36

My knees are fairly good but I want to be in charge of the make up department.

Not sure Ant's ex-wife would be very keen on giving up her job though.

Joseann Sun 10-Dec-23 17:42:25

I had no idea Lisa Armstrong was Strictly's make up artist. I'm sure she needs extra help on Halloween night. Tell you what Millie22, we'll get seats for Cats and Lion King to get some good tips and also choose some dance candidates for the show.

Millie22 Sun 10-Dec-23 17:46:10

Yep I'm in 😊

Sparklefizz Sun 10-Dec-23 18:01:48

maddyone Oh, and I’ll help with the costumes on the Gransnet Strictly.

Please can I have built-in Spanx with my sparkly dress so all the rolypoly bits are held in tight??
