On BBC 2 now
Anyone watching this? She is amazing for 90! Obviously her hair is dyed, (or is it a wig?) and is heavily made up but still looks great. Very watchable.

He was not a guest of an ex KGB agent.
He was the guest of the son of an ex KGB agent.

At a villa owned by the Lebedev family. Lebedev senior, the "ex" KGB agent was there. Italian security services expressed concern. It is all there, in the public domain. As most intelligent people know, there is no such thing as an "ex" KGB agent who is alive.

Apart from this cheerful chappie who served 15 years as a foreign intelligence officer for the KGB (Committee for State Security), including six years in Dresden, East Germany. In 1990 he retired from active KGB service with the rank of lieutenant colonel and returned to Russia to become prorector of Leningrad State University with responsibility for the institution’s external relations. Soon afterward Putin became an adviser to Sobchak, the first democratically elected mayor of St. Petersburg. He quickly won Sobchak’s confidence and became known for his ability to get things done; by 1994 he had risen to the post of first deputy mayor.
And the rest, as they say, is history.

I haven’t seen it and I don’t suppose I will but in my book anyone who is 90 and still lively and entertaining is a real star. Good for her.

She's a survivor and what we might call a real trouper! The eternal optimist, whatever life threw at her.

Agree MayBee70 a very lightweight interview, but she is 90 so hardly surprising.
I didn’t find out anything I didn’t already know, but she looks amazing & always speaks sense.

The ex KGB agent was there though and BJ met him.
He said he met Mr Lebedev senior at the event in Italy and said it "was not a formal meeting, nor something that was pre-arranged".

I watched it last night. It was good fun albeit being a bit lightweight. He was very gentle and reverential by his standards. She does look good for her age. I’ve never thought of her as a good actress and I never watched Dynasty. To me she’s more in the canny survivor category of celebs. Her wig must make her hot. It’s why I never wear mine: that and the fact it makes me itchy.

I declined my invitation 😁

Or care.

I care not a jot who was there, but I am very concerned that the man who was then Foreign Secretary was the guest of an ex KGB agent, without his security detail.

I sounds like a ghastly evening; Johnson, Katie Price, Joan Collins.....how fortunate that I was not invited washing my hair that day. grin

merlotgran Mon 27-Nov-23 11:48:19

But perhaps Percy was there too,

I hope you’re referring to Joan’s husband? 🤣

HPQ, Johnson’s hungover appearance was indeed well documented. His behaviour less so, hence FP’s great desire to see party guests interviewed. To say that ‘it very likely led to blackmail’ is pure surmise and, as I have already said, libellous.

I suppose that you can only use blackmail if someone has a reputation that they don’t want to tarnish or a wife that would be horrified/surprised to find her husband had been unfaithful.

or a wife that would be horrified/surprised to find her husband had been unfaithful.
It was Joan Collins that some allege was there.

But perhaps Percy was there too, Maybee?

The bottom line is, we don't know.

Do a bit of research, it is all out there.

We don’t want homework thank you and we dont want to “educate ourselves “🙄

FleurvPepper,

I feel I must apologise! I should never have been so personal. My fault as I was just intrigued that you live in a country I enjoyed visiting. So sorry to all Grans%!

It is not you who need apologise. The bullying of FP is frequent and distasteful. Why someone's country of residence makes their opinion invalid mystified me, as it should all those GN members who live in France, Spain, USA or anywhere else, whether full time or part time

This is how I became great friends with someone mentionned earlier- she was appalled at the constant bullying and very personal attacks. Bringin her into this conversation was just so so wrong.

I am British, not born and bred, but have been for over 50 years, all my adult life, married to a British man and with British ACs and GCs.

Thank you, don't worry. I am appalled beyond words that some chose to mention a great friend of mine, no longer with us, in this conversation. Just no words.

‘Very likely it led to blackmail’. You are skating on very thin ice - that is libellous, as are your references to the Salisbury poisonings and Russian interference in UK politics. I would suggest you ask for your post to be deleted.

Nonsense. Johnson's behaviour in Italy and subsequent hungover appearance at Perugia Airport are very well documented and photographed and available for all to see and read, even those who think he walks on water.

I agree with Luckygirl

For Lucky -- it wouldn't have mattered what Theroux might have known about the odious Savile -- he had the protection of Thatcher AND the Royals, who all thought he was great due to the charity fund-raising.

I think it does matter. I think Theroux makes his living by his "faux naivety" - whilst at the same time keeping a room in his house for Saville. I absolutely do not believe he was ignorant of what was going on. It matters because he knew what was happening but gave this awful man the nourishment of more publicity.

We have to assume that Thatcher and the Royals did not know.

Ok a shout out for Greatnan. Such a talented, well informed. Interesting poster. Her loss was significant for this forum and for those of us who ciudad count her as a genuine forum friend. She was always honest and true.

👏👏👏 Amazing woman. Taken too soon. 😥

Grandma, she's just like you but with more hair!
