Is on BBC2 on Friday (22nd) at 9am. I’d never heard of this film but have been told several times now that it’s a Christmas must watch. So I must remember to watch it!

I’ve seen this a couple of times on Talking Pictures and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m a huge Cary Grant fan. I love the ice skating scene, so funny. Hope you enjoy it.

It's a lovely film.

I’ve just watched The Holly and the Ivy - a real period piece and the aunts so reminiscent of similar people in my childhood.

Yes I love this one too, but with Cary Grant and David Niven, what’s not to like?

It is 9am on BBC 2. I’m going to record it.

I’ve never heard of it but I’ll definitely give it a watch.
Then we can discuss it after Christmas!

On a bit of a tangent, the Archie series on ITVX is well worth a watch.

It is about the life of Cary Grant. Cary Grant is played by Jason Isaacs and he does a great job.

I think it is four one hour episodes.

Love this film. One of my favourites.

It is a great movie from 1947 - Carey Grant, David Niven and Loretta Young.

I have it on dvd as it is one of my Christmas musts to watch.

I read a fun fact the other day that I never knew before - originally the movie was cast the other way around with Carey Grant playing the Bishop and David Niven playing the Angel. But there were problems in the production - the director departed and a new director appointed. When the new director watched the footage that had been filmed by the previous director, he realized that the leading men were miscast and that they needed to play the opposite roles. Cary Grant was originally hard to convince to give up the "title role" but eventually they reshot it, and it became a classic.

this is also good

The Preacher's Wife is a 1996 American Christmas comedy-drama film directed by Penny Marshall and starring Denzel Washington, Whitney Houston, and Courtney B. Vance. It is a remake of the 1947 film The Bishop's Wife, which in turn was based on the 1928 novel of the same name by Robert Nathan.

The Bishop’s Wife is a true Christmas classic - I never miss it, watch it every year. The film is very Christmasy and sweet. I love the old black and white films from the 40’s… It’s a Wonderful Life (James Stewart, Donna Reed) and Christmas in Connecticut (Barbara Stanwyck, Dennis Morgan), and the 1951(?) version of A Christmas Carol.
Happy Holidays!
