Just watched the Christmas special.

Feel like I have swallowed a whole bottle of golden syrup.

How many more times is Sister Monica Joan going to predict her end is nigh?

I think he's still married.
It's a pity they wrote Lucille out, it all seemed rather implausible too.

I think Cyril and the other newly qualified midwife, not Nurse Highland, fancy each other.

Perhaps Lucille will have to be killed off (sorry to be blunt), as his religion wouldn’t allow him to have an affair probably.

I thought that too!

This lady. I've been saying (at home) for a few weeks that she and Cyril are getting close 😊
I'd actually forgotten that his wife is just overseas and presumably they're not divorced?? 😬

It all seemed a bit silly how Lucille went home on her own. The scriptwriters probably wouldn’t have married her off if they’d known.

I am assuming the actress playing her wanted to leave the show?

Yes, I think she did want to leave, but the way that storyline was handled just seemed like lazy writing to me. I don't think Lucille would have treated Cyril in that way. Same with the whole Matthew/Trixie storyline too - it just doesn't ring true.

I loved Lucille, I thought she was a very interesting character. What a shame if she’s been written out.

merlotgran Wed 28-Feb-24 14:38:58

I’m annoyed they’ve written Matthew out? Why can’t Trixie be happy?

Clawdy Thu 29-Feb-24 22:31:01

Not keen on Trixie now. Problem for me is that I don't particularly like any of the characters now!

Hardly any nuns left at Nonnatus House.

Just good old Sister Monica Joan, long-suffering saintly Sister Julienne and the other bossy one whose name I can’t remember.

I’m finding the Millicent and her son’s story very moving.

😢

I can’t get over Millicent’s favourite book being Forever Amber! 😮😮😂😂

Mel1967 Sun 03-Mar-24 21:15:12

At least it’s over now until the Christmas Special 😩

mamaa Sun 03-Mar-24 21:16:57

Me too Calendar in fact all the sub plots tonight I found very emotional. Sometimes the stories are a little bit sacchariney ( is that a word) sweet- but for me, not tonight. All had resonance and reminded me of the quality of series gone by. Not ashamed to say I welled up quite a few times tonight 😢

kittylester Sun 03-Mar-24 21:47:41

My thought too, Merlot. I must try and get hold of a copy to see if it's as racy now as it seemed to be then.

Has Trixie left do we suppose?

dragonfly46 Sun 03-Mar-24 21:54:03

Well Trixie is in The King and I!

Joseann Sun 03-Mar-24 22:18:32

A good episode with which to end the series.

Well Trixie is in The King and I!

But she has been for ages.

JenniferEccles Sun 03-Mar-24 22:56:29

I hope there will be another series next year.

keepingquiet Sun 03-Mar-24 23:14:58

I didn't realise this was the last one. I found the story about Millicent and her son very moving, great performances.

However, I am finding the ongoing stories very tired. I hope Cyril fings love and I feel relieved Trixie has gone, that whole storyline was implausible.

It has been one of my favourites since it started, but now I'm thinking it's time to wind it down. Some of the characters are getting stale and the storylines just silly. It seems a shame but it is becoming a parody of itself.

mamaa Sun 03-Mar-24 23:31:06

I didn’t realise this was the last in the series no wonder it was a tear jerker- Christmas special just been confirmed via X (formerly known as Twitter)

But she probably wants to do more of the same.

Joseann Mon 04-Mar-24 07:54:58

I believe there's going to be 2 more series up to 2026?

Surely Sister Monica Joan must go to meet her maker by then?

I thought what a crabby old woman she was last night. Pleased saintly Sister Julienne finally squared her up, and not before time.

And she has two small children, perhaps filming this and working in the theatre was just too much.
