Has anybody watched the 2nd series of 'The Traitors' on BBC1 / iPlayer tonight?

I really, really liked the 1st series last year - so much so that I also watched the US & Australian versions on iPlayer to ease withdrawal symptoms when it finished šŸ˜‚.

Another obsession is about to start I think.......

Never watched it and no intention of doing so. It appears to be a programme about deceit, lying and deceiving people, who do it willingly.

Try watching it rather than sniping

Most dramas are about murder in one form or another, often involving violence and gore, so presumably you don't watch any of them either.

You have a point but would you feel differently if a ā€˜faithful’ had won and we were all talking about truth triumphing over lies?

Filmed over 2 weeks apparently OldFrill

That's good as it would probably be tricky for folk to get longer off work.

Oh dear, sounds like the idea of the programme has touched a nerve for you.

Thoroughly enjoyed it and looking forward to watching Traitors Australia next.

You could say the ā€œTraitorsā€ game is a microcosm of capitalist life as we l experience it Allsorts 😲

toscalily Mon 29-Jan-24 11:37:59

Allsorts If you have never seen it and have no intention watching it what was the point of telling us that?

Jewelle -Three episodes in to Australia Series 2 and enjoying. For those who thought Paul needed outing you need to hear Sam (makes Paul and Harry look like saints)!!

I don't agree with those who think the traitors were genuinely nasty people. They are probably just very good actors with clever brains and a bit of luck thrown in. I am sure they are perfectly pleasant in real life.
There is sometimes a tendency to being very judgemental on GN.
I have started to watch the US version, which includes some 'celebrities' from other previous reality shows. I think I shall enjoy it. I shall then look for the Australian and NZ ones. That will keep me going for the rest of the year!

Never watched it, sorry

If you've ever been to a Murder Mystery event, it is based on the same concept. It's a game, not real life.

I think that the people recruited to this show are pretty ordinary. They seem to cover the age and ethnicity range. Nobody was particularly clever despite all the chat about their 'strategies' etc.
Harry just struck lucky with his baby face and the besotted Mollie who even at the last minute could have won.

Parsley3 Tue 30-Jan-24 12:35:22

It is the fact that the contestants are pretty ordinary that makes the show so watchable. I hope they don't do a UK celebrity version though because I will be biased about the people I already know. I watched the American one which seemed to have reality show celebs but as I didn't know any of them it made no difference to my enjoyment of it. Alan Cummings is very entertaining as the presenter.

Way back at the beginning of the month, the OP asked if anyone would be watching The Traitors, so why the unnecessarily nasty comments to a Gransnetter who has said "no I won't", and given their reasons?
Allsorts, I do actually share your impression about the programme appearing to promote lying and deceiving as entertainment and, for that reason, I too have chosen not to watch it. I don't agree with Chestnut that "most TV dramas are about murder" but I choose not to watch programmes that dramatise graphic violence, paedophilia and rape - we already hear about so much violence in real life. And how about those lying, cheating and deceitful politicians - many Gransnetters are very vocal about them! I'm happy to accept that others find The Traitors entertaining but please don't denigrate those that don't share your enthusiasm.

I didn’t watch first season but my daughter inlaw stopped off on her way home from a meeting I’m cheaper than a hotel lol she was shocked I didn’t watch it but she watched it when she was here I thought it was good since then I’ve watched both of ours and other countries too. For the ppl that said not watch I didn’t watch it for the same reasons but it’s not what you think it is about

That's not what the OP asked.

Watched it to the finish, didn’t see series one but hooked on this series. Very clever game and a good insight to human behaviour in some ways.
Loved Claudia’s clothes !!! Plus the scenery was stunning. Not sure the winner deserved the money but played a clever game

NotSpaghetti Tue 30-Jan-24 13:38:31

I loved her clothes too Susieq62 and hope some of these small Scottish companies do well out of it.

I like the fact that the contestants are a range of ordinary people and not celebs.
For that reason I prefer watching ordinary people on Gogglebox rather than celebs, the ordinary people are so much more interesting and wittier than the celebs ( there are a few exceptions mind you. )😬

Shawlands2000 Tue 30-Jan-24 15:54:27

Oh my goodness, I am watching the second Australian series, and that Sam really is a piece of work. I couldn't stand the person who won the first Australian series either.

Irismarle Tue 30-Jan-24 15:56:44

Apparently Harry’s girlfriend is a TV presenter, and I would guess he applied for Traitors in the hope the exposure would lead to offers of this kind of work which would be much better paid than the army. However, I will be interested to see if his skills in lying and manipulating others may backfire and he may now have the wrong image. Although Mollie lost out in the final, she may win in the long run for coming across as a loyal and honest person. I think she may get more offers of work in future TV.

grannydarkhair Tue 30-Jan-24 17:44:04

The ā€œEaster Eggā€ comment has nothing to do with Easter, it’s the phrase used to describe a hidden message of some sort within a film, play, etc.
I loved most of Claudia’s clothes, especially the green toned ones. I don’t think she suited the pink sweater she wore near the end though, it really did nothing for her skin colour.
Whilst I’m ambivalent about the ethos of the show, as I agree that it appears to celebrate lying, it is just a game show and I think Harry deserved to win as he ā€œplayed the gameā€ better than any of the rest.
Like others have said, I don’t want a celebrity/part celebrity version of Traitors, part of the entertainment comes from knowing that the players are unknown and not the same old faces one sees all too often on the TV.
