Has anybody watched the 2nd series of 'The Traitors' on BBC1 / iPlayer tonight?

I really, really liked the 1st series last year - so much so that I also watched the US & Australian versions on iPlayer to ease withdrawal symptoms when it finished 😂.

Another obsession is about to start I think.......

caknib I have a hundred questions about the logistics of moving people around in the night, up to the tower, into the room where they receive their murder letter etc. How do others not suspect when people disappear? How do they ask new recruits to join and then get them into the tower with the traitors the same night? Still, if we knew all that I suppose the magic would be lost.

I really enjoyed this show. It was the first time I’ve watched and thought it was cleverly done. Claudia was great, but the real star for me was Jaz who appeared brighter than most of the faithfuls.
Poor Mollie, should be a warning to all young women, looks can be deceptive wink

BlueBelle Sat 27-Jan-24 16:59:44

Farzanah not only good looks but charm I think she’s realised and must feel very foolish poor girl She was very doe eyed wasn’t she ? I was really hoping Jaz or Andrew would win but knew it was going to be Harry, the charmer

Just read the viewing figures on Radio Times:

'The BBC has confirmed that the climactic episode reached a peak audience of 6.9 million, more than double the season 1 finale (3.1m), with its average across the hour being 5.5 million (33.5 per cent of the audience share at that time).'

Now how do they know that? I recorded it and started watching about 9.30pm so did I get counted?

Chestnut there are several good articles online about this - I read a few last autumn but they are all swamped under new articles now and I can't find them.

One was in an "industry" type magazine and was talking (albeit guardedly) about production challenges. About how sometimes people had to be driven round in their cars incase they were spotted.

They have breakfast in the hotel first so have eaten in their bedrooms. I think I read they were killed in the morning rather than overnight.

I was surprised to hear they filmed Monday to Saturday but had Sundays off. The days were long and gruelling.

They have a different driver each night, and are allowed 2 drinks total a day - one in the castle.
Pretty certain I read they spend evenings in their rooms.
One contestant from last year said she spent most of Sunday sleeping and thought others would do the same.

The info is out there - just harder to find now. And of course it was all based on last year's show.

Apprently they live in a Hotel by Inverness Airport it's quite a drive to and from the castle.
The upstairs is crew, make up etc.

Chestnut Sat 27-Jan-24 23:40:52

That's all very interesting! I also heard today the crew are large in numbers, about 200 of them!

Apparently Harry is one of the jet setting crowd and posts pictures of his lavish lifestyle, so it seems he even duped us the viewers. He said money wasn't important to him, but he would like to take his family all out for a meal and not worry about paying for it. My heart bleeds.

His lying and cheating skills make him a deserving winner, but he certainly isn't a worthy winner. The others all wanted to use the money in a philanthropic way on worthy causes. Harry was rather vague but said it was for his family, especially his parents. What a shame Mollie changed her mind on the slate..........

He's a lance corporal, REME aircraft engineer and went back to that job after filming finished last year, having to keep his win a secret. He may have a relatively wealthy girlfriend but that doesn't make him wealthy.

caknib Sun 28-Jan-24 09:29:39

Funny old world when lying and cheating are revered. And being young and slightly confused are mocked.

Only a game but still.

BlueBelle Sun 28-Jan-24 09:35:10

Not for long!

merlotgran Sun 28-Jan-24 10:07:41

How come Harry managed to get so much leave from the army for the filming?

Game shows now offer such big rewards that I wonder if contestants are guilt tripped into promises of generous charity donations and the like.

Even on smaller shows they’re asked what they’re going to do with their winnings as though it’s a sin to want to have a holiday or do up the kitchen. Money For Nothing is the worst. I cringe when somebody is asked what they’re going to do with £10.50.

I’d love somebody to reply, ‘Mind your own business!’

Aveline Sun 28-Jan-24 10:54:16

Harry will fritter the money away on daft cars and expensive holidays.

NotSpaghetti Sun 28-Jan-24 11:13:28

I think many people in their 20s would like to buy "daft" cars and expensive holidays... I know I might have done if I'd not already been married with children!

Frankly 95k won't buy many cars a young man "with money" might choose.
An Audi A4 - 40k ish -and not exactly a Porsche or Ferrari.

This comment is absolutely no criticism of any of the players, but I am wondering what other people think.

I have thoroughly enjoyed both series, but towards the end of this series, I began to feel uncomfortable because it seems that that the message it is giving out is that only liars, untrustworthy and cheats win. I know it is a game but even so I’m beginning to feel a tad alarmed at the message.

I don’t want to be a kill joy though. ☹️

NotSpaghetti Sun 28-Jan-24 11:40:19

Whitewavemark2 you may be right but it's nice to see how many people wanted those that seemed to have a conscience to win.
I wanted Andrew to win because although he got to like being a traitor he repeatedly kept telling himself that it was a game.

toscalily Sun 28-Jan-24 11:47:38

We may as viewers prefer to see someone with a conscience win but have to accept that it is a game and not everyone who wins is the most deserving.

I agree. I think that’s why I disliked Harry because he was so good at lying and manipulating. It may be a game but I don’t think I’d want to have any dealings with him in RL.

I really hoped Mollie would wise up at the end.

Parsley3 Sun 28-Jan-24 14:05:31

The message I take from it is that it is so easy to get people to agree with your opinion even when it has no merit at all. Partly because everyone wants to be one of the crowd and partly because they begin to doubt their own judgement. Liars and cheats win when we don't have the courage of our convictions.

Oreo Sun 28-Jan-24 14:15:35

People can be sheep Parsley3 they follow the crowd. You see this even on SM sites.
The whole point of the game is to make it through to the end and convince everyone that you’re not a traitor.Contestants need to keep that in mind.
Harry won through being able to convince others by appearing a bit dim, which he really isn’t, young and charming. This worked for him just as it worked for Mollie, and nobody ever suspected her either, I know she wasn’t a designated traitor but she well could have been after all.It was a game and Harry played it perfectly and won, good on him I say.
It makes for fascinating viewing.

toscalily Sun 28-Jan-24 14:23:43

It really is the modern equivalent of playing a board game, Monopoly for the money, Cluedo for the "who done it", both have been around for many years and enjoyed for what they were. Did anyone really believe that playing one of them would have had an influence in real life?

Aveline Sun 28-Jan-24 15:06:36

Last year the Faithfuls won. Might do again next year? Hope so.

How come Harry managed to get so much leave from the army for the filming?

I imagine it came out of his annual holiday entitlement, the same for others who work. It's filmed over about 3 weeks and army leave entitlement is 38 days. He did thank the army for their support.

NotSpaghetti Mon 29-Jan-24 08:19:13

Filmed over 2 weeks apparently OldFrill
