The ones I watch (not particularly good I have to say ) are, apart from the news, Bargain Hunt ( British) and Millionaire (Australian with Eddie McGuire). Just a habit. I watch Vera a lot,too and another one we have here, Hard Quiz.

I don’t watch anything on a regular basis these days but, back in the day when I was a young mother I watched Pebble Mill at One every day. Really ahead of its time imo. These daysI don’t have daily watches but there are certain programmes which if I come upon whilst channel hopping I have to watch eg Homes Under the Hammer ( to think they were going to cancel it) First Dates, Antiques Road Trip. I can happily put Homes Under the Hammer on catchup and binge watch it!

When I broke my arm a couple of months ago and found myself at home more often, I started watching Escape To The Country, which has become a bit of a daily habit, I love it, I'm not so interested in those looking for a sizeable pile, I like the really characterful stone cottages found in so many beautiful places. If a new Four in a Bed is on, I'll watch that.

Back in the distant past I watched Coronation Street for a while and even Eastenders, but gave up on the latter too many angry Phil Mitchell type characters shouting and hollering.

When I gave up work and became a new mum, I got into Neighbours when it was launched, having been in Australia for a while before, I was quite into all things Australian. It also conveniently coincided with one of the numerous daytime feeds. Also the Scottish series, Take the High Road a welcome respite between coming back from my part time job and picking the children up from school. Nowadays I don't watch any soaps.

The chase and coronation street.
Never miss it, although the story lines have become out of touch with reality . We moan like hell about it, but feel compelled to watch anyway.

Any news programmes.

A small DC and I used to watch The Sullivans
A Place to Call Home is good too, if you can find it, it may be on Amazon.

We do watch The Chase if we're in but I do shout at it sometimes 😃

I used to watch Corrie and sometimes Eastenders for a little relaxation and escapism but the stories are quite ridiculous now. We watch detective series on ITVX and BBC streaming but it would be nice to have something genuinely new to watch. My husband watches/listens to all the men’s junk like LBC and some of the low-grade news channels but I prefer to get my news from R4 unless there is something significant happening and I want to see what is going on.

I love general knowledge quizes so try to catch Mastermind, University Challenge, House of Games and The Chase. I work funny hours (hospitality) so don't watch anything on a regular basis. By the time I get home I get my daily fix of Gransnet and then often go to bed.

Since my husband went into full time care ( Alzheimers) I hardly watch tv . It’s a reaction to a deaf husband watching tv at full blast 15 hours a day non-stop. My resulting tinnitus ….slight deafness in left ear ….and inability to focus on anything for too long , has left me inoculated to tv. But I turn on for anything with Attenborough or Brian Cox …love anything to do with space !
Turn on for Silent Witness ( well to record it!) ….dont bother with news as I realise after watching it for 60 years …nothing has changed. StillArab v Israelis fighting each other ….still racism ….still sexism ….still police brutality….still rotten politicians….so now I dont bother!

DH and I have phases of watching programmes for months on end, then seem to switch to something else.

50-ish years ago I knew a couple who suffered quite a late miscarriage with their first pregnancy. Her parents treated them to a fortnight in America to help them recover, and the wife insisted they record Crossroads while they were away. Back then, a holiday to America was something spectacular for a working-class couple, which made the insistence of recording a tv programme a bit potty!!!

I like watching Vera, Escape to the Country; Countryfile and Antiques Roadshow. Also most of what is on itv3. Poirot, Miss Marple, Dalziel & Pascoe etc. easy watching.

I watched Eastenders from when it started in the early 80 s until about 10 years ago when I suddenly decided I had enough of it.
In all that time no one managed to buy a washing machine so if they weren't in the launderette they were being thrown out of the Vic, and not a Christmas Day passed without some unfortunate coming to a sorry end….. all that shouting got a bit much too. So I just stopped watching one day and je ne regrete rien.

I rarely miss Countdown. My late father had watched it from the beginning and was especially proud of his maths skills. He introduced me to the programme and I've now got DS2 hooked. When I visit we watch it together and he is far quicker than I am. I'm trying to persuade him to apply!

I watch BBC Breakfast every day, the first part in bed. For me it has the ideal mix of news and other items.

Not a daily programme, but I have watched University Challenge for many, many years.

nanna8 Tue 30-Jan-24 03:51:28

I love Brenda Blethyn as an actress in Vera. Some Geordie friends tell me her accent isn’t quite right but it still sounds pretty good to me. We don’t have anything like University Challenge but I used to watch it when I lived in the UK. Bamber Gascoigne- you can tell how old I am! I don’t think it would go down that well here, though.

BlueBelle Tue 30-Jan-24 05:49:30

I like Corrie and Judge Judy and a more recent convert to Emmerdale ( last year)
Like ‘4 in a bed’ but they always seem repeats Others on and off
Never heard of ‘breathtaking’ Grantatow I like hospital dramas and real life ones

Flappergirl love that too.

Great minds think alike Harris!

Hellogirl1 Tue 30-Jan-24 15:54:41

It`s not on every day, but I`ve never missed a single episode of Eastenders since it began in February 1985, simply because I love it!

JamesandJon33 Tue 30-Jan-24 19:28:15

Pointless, but not the repeats. Mastermind, Only Connect and University Challenge practically from the word go.

caknib Tue 30-Jan-24 19:53:56

Used to love PebbleMill. And years ago Oprah was on about Ipm

Well, most shows aren't on all the time, except soaps I suppose, and the News? There's a terrific show on now, so funny, Dogs Behaving Very Badly (C5 - Tuesdays) which non dog owners can appreciate, and dog owners should watch too?!

Like someone else we watch the BBC quizzes on Mondays, Only Connect (the lift if we can answer a question!) and University Challenge, which has been heavily dumbed down from what it once was, we can now sometimes answer a question that the bright young things don't know, or we're at least quicker! We like any of the Place in the Sun shows, though it's not a regular date, just if we catch one, though I doubt we'll be going to live in Portugal or Italy due to medical issues!

I can recommend the Talking Pictures channel, (TV and films from yesteryear) on Virgin, Freeview, Freesat, Youview, or 'Sky Digital'. Lots of reminders of lost youth, they've just started some Dixon of Dock Green (a few very grainy episodes weren't lost), we see Rumpole of the Bailey, the original Maigret (Rupert Davies), and a french Maigret, made in the 90s, has subtitles but they're OK, and if you know a bit of French it's good fun picking out a few words.

And they do a fun show on Sundays, Footage Detectives, with little films sent in by viewers, questions about series or stars, or general appeals for help, They've got Worzel Gummidge showing if you like, The Brothers, Public Eye and more oldies to stir some memories. And on Sat mornings they show some stuff actually from those Sat morning cinema shows for kids!

There are now very few programmes I watch at all. I used to enjoy Bargain Hunt but it has changed since Wonnacott left. They treat the contestants like children.
I have surprised myself by regularly watching My 600lb Life. I think it's the psychological side...they all have certain personality traits in common.
