ONE DAY on Netflix

Anyone watching One Day? I read the book by David Nicholls back in 2009 and enjoyed it so much that I deliberately avoided the film version starring Anne Hathaway trying to do a Yorkshire accent.

But ... I decided to give the new version on NF a try, and it is lovely and beautifully acted and now that I'm getting close to the end I am starting to feel bereft already.

Just a tip - have your hankie ready!

Yes - it is a series that stays with you, DH and I found ourselves talking about it the following day.

I recovered from the shock of the physical similarity of the two actors to my GS and GF - their characters are quite different - thank goodness!

It's been a week now and I am still thinking about it.

I like to binge watch everything if i can as ive no patience to wait weeks for the end of things..i might look out for this..I began watching something months go but it was so slow and getting ridiculous so i left it.Cant remember now but i think it was called YOU? or similar...🤔😐 I watched whole of Too Good To Be True last night as i usually like Kara Tointon's stuff. It was all right but a bit of a predictable ending i thought.

Watched the old film last night. Thoroughly enjoyable. What a contrast to the life we led as students. I'm certainly going to read the book and watch the new version.

Maybee70 It really annoyed me when Roma won the Oscar for best film but you had to subscribe to Netflix to watch it.

I remember that as it didn't come to the cinemas here. It's rare to find a foreign language film on the the big screen. I didn't have Netflix but a friend did so I went to her house to watch it.

I hope you have managed to see Roma now but if you stil haven't, JustWatch says it's also available on AppleTV.

On the strength of this Thread I've started to watch One Day. Now starting episode 4 (or is it 5?), I agree it is a bit slow but think it's beginning to move a little.
Oh.... to be young again.

I want to watch this but I'm currently watching last chance U with my son and tbh I thought I would hate it but I'm as hooked as him!

Started to watch it earlier on your recommendation and love it already! Thank you 😊

I think I'm lacking in emotions.

I watched this , enjoyed it but wasn't particularly moved by it at all.

Many shows have sadness and trauma. Not sure why this is causing such extreme reactions.

On Tiktok it appears to be a competition as to who can cry more about it!

I believe that the film had a more believable accident than this one as well.

Very well acted and I'd recommend it but it's not caused me any extreme emotional reaction.

Binge watched One Day, all 14 episodes, thanks to this thread. Now sitting with sore red eyes. Love a good weepy film.
Now can someone recommend a good comedy for balance.

Friday Night Dinner.

My girls used to watch that after a stressful couple of episodes of Breaking Bad!!

Thanks SeaWoozle will give it a whirl.

Currently binge watching it as I can use SIL’s Netflix account while he’s here. Very well made but part way through finding it a bit depressing to be honest.

Just finished it and feel the same way. I thought the lad who played Dexter was like a young Brad Pitt. It was very well made and acted but it didn’t move me in the way that eg Life After Life did.

Excellent acting. Hooray for a film that does not rely on special effects!

JaneJudge Sun 25-Feb-24 13:51:01

I've watched a couple of episodes and really dislike the male character grin

Friday Night dinner is brilliant Laura. I liked Mum as well

I read the book years ago and enjoyed it, so was quite looking forward to the series.
I watched two episodes and decided to give it a miss, but I read here that someone found the beginning slow, so I went back to it, and just binge watched the rest.
Beautiful acting, really well cast, and I found Dexter to be so tragic and almost unbearably handsome.
Supporting cast also really good, loved it.

MayBee70 Sun 25-Feb-24 19:16:44

Dexter was heartbreaking. I haven’t read the book but thought that there were things that Emma did that seemed out of character.

JaneJudge Mon 26-Feb-24 14:15:21

I wish someone had warned me how sad it was sad

I know, I wish their was a part two where Dexter could be happy.

JaneJudge Mon 26-Feb-24 17:04:37

but poor Emma!

HousePlantQueen Mon 26-Feb-24 17:12:08

A fantastic series. I too read and enjoyed the book, and the film, although by necessity a precis of the book was good, but this dramatisation is so much better as it draws out the missed opportunities, the developing lives, the growing up that Dexter and Emma do. Highly recommend it

CanadianGran Mon 26-Feb-24 17:17:56

I'll put it on my list, thanks for the recommendation.

I said when starting this thread to have your hankie ready.

As you've said that you didn't really disliked Dexter, I am surprised you watched more of it, and found it sad.

DISCLAIMER SKIM PAST IF NOT WATCHED YET

I like stuff about people though, I find t interesting. I liked Emma more. I think if I was Emma I would have moved on and met someone who I intellectually connected with. I understand it is about love though.

I did dislike him in the beginning few episodes, the arrogance and drug taking but I've tried extremely hard to bring my own sons up to be respectful and considerate but we saw in the one episode of his own Mothers frustration.

Yes, it made me really sad. The hedonistic one lived, the one who worked hard and was kind and forgiving died. It just made me sad. I didn't dislike him at the end though
