New series started last night racing from Japan to Indonesia.
I thought the first episode was a bit rushed and didn't give us a chance to see Japan and get to know the contestants.
I love this programme as a chance to see the world from my sofa.

I love Race Across The World, but yes, I know what you mean about this particular episode. Hopefully we will get to see more in the coming episodes.

DGS, age 13, was here last night and watched it for the first time. He was hooked and said he'll try to catch the others on iPlayer.

I didn't get the 'flavour' of Japan and neither did the contestants though I thought Stephen and Viv had the right idea. I liked the idea of swimming nude in hot springs.

TerriBull Thu 11-Apr-24 09:57:42

I do love this programme, I didn't realise there was a new one, I've seen all the others, I'll have to catch up.

Love this program as well. Armchair travel can’t beat it 😀

Japan looked absolutely beautiful and fascinating.. unfortunately not somewhere I have visited

merlotgran Thu 11-Apr-24 18:34:08

Eugenie and Isabel are my favourites so far.

I love this programme. My daughter introduced me to it a couple of years ago. We exchange texts while it is on expressing our opinions on various teams. Great fun. Scenery pretty good too. I also love Hunted and Celebrity Hunted.

I haven’t started it although I like it I do find a lot of these get very predictable and samey just different countries

Nannashirlz Sun 14-Apr-24 11:47:13

I’ve watched this from the start i also like it because it shows us places you don’t normally see. But doesn’t it normally tell the 5th couple there are out for coming last on the first episode but it didn’t this new season

It seems to be as much about the personalities and the way their relationships develop (or break down) under stress. We loved the first series to Singapore and the South American one but found the Canadian one different - lots of Canadians getting on TV by offering lifts, so contestants didn't have to think for themselves. Brilliant concept for a programme though and we really enjoyed celebrity one as well.

There are some great American series of this available on YouTube too, thry get vety cut throat 🤣

Frogs Sun 14-Apr-24 15:08:39

It amuses me when they talk about ‘car sharing’ on the programme used to be called hitchhiking in the olden days.😆

Beau1958 Sun 14-Apr-24 15:42:40

I find it very enjoyable. I do admire the older couple I certainly could not do that trip it looks exhausting. He was complaining of a neck ache after just one day carrying that back pack ha !

I have just come back from a once n a lifetime trip to Antarctica ....always wanted to go, but life got in the way !!! It was truly amazing ....(except for an initial 14 hour flight to Buenos Aires !)......I am trying to get as much travel in as possible before I am too ancient to do so ....I would LOVE to do race across the world, but a) no one else would that I know and b) I am too decrepit nowadays .......but I also love this programme, and all of David Attenborough's ...tonight there is a programme about Shackleton's travels ....even though I have been to the North Pole, to Antarctica, Iceland, Canada etc etc I think sometimes it would have been easier (not to mention as a solo traveller CHEAPER !) just to watch the TV...in fact to be honest you see more than when you physically go !

Mizuna Mon 15-Apr-24 07:10:04

The Shackleton programme was excellent last night. What a leader he was. I've travelled a fair amount but I agree that you get to see a lot more of the world on the TV! I enjoy Race Across the World more for the scenery than the people.

Has anyone watched the final of this season yet (it was on last night)? No spoilers - just wondering what everyone thought of the result?

Farmor15 Thu 30-May-24 18:54:45

Yes - I watched it and thought the winners were deserving - no spoilers! The follow up programme where they did a bit on how it was filmed, was interesting- would have like to hear from film crews - they must have a harder job than contestants!

merlotgran Thu 30-May-24 19:02:03

I didn’t know there was a follow up programme. I’ll have to see if I can find it on iPlayer.

Treebee Thu 30-May-24 19:04:14

The final was tense, but in the end I’m pleased about the winning couple. I’ll watch the reunion programme that I’ve recorded , tonight. I often wonder about the logistics of the programme.

Cabbie21 Thu 30-May-24 19:07:42

I have only caught the last 15 minutes of each programme once I get home, but it has been exciting, and very closely contested. The reunion programme was interesting too,

MissInterpreted Thu 30-May-24 19:19:22

I was really pleased with the result too. I see the second 'celebrity' season is coming up next. Wonder who will be on it?

TerriBull Thu 30-May-24 19:19:59

I loved the boys, particularly Alfie when he reminisced about his mum who died when he was 5, that brought a tear to my eye. Eugenie and Isabel were great, they seemed to have a role reversal thing going on at times, when mum Eugenie got the hump with daughter Isabel who in turn puzzled over how to tactically placate her mum. I haven't seen the last episode. I didn't dislike any of them, so I won't mind who wins. I was sorry when the other mum and daughter were eliminated.

Washerwoman Thu 30-May-24 21:21:04

I loved this series - much more interesting than the Canadian one - and my favourites won.
I would love to do this with my daughter but fear my old knees now wouldn't be up to it.I simply can't run anywhere nowadays. The reunion programme was good too.
