The Archers making me feel queasy!

Am I the only person who is feeling slightly queasy listening to Joy and Mick discussing their sex life in the Archers? I'm thrilled for anyone who is having a good sex life but but I really don't want to hear about it, whether on television, the radio or in real life. I'm not a prude but some things are better kept kept quiet in my opinion!

I gave up listening to the Archers, after a lifetime of listening, when Helen was in an abusive relationship. Weren’t the sex scenes between Kenton’s wife and her previous quite explicit when they were meeting in secret?

I don't remember them being quite so bad! Perhaps it is the idea of Mick being so scruffy and badly shaved added to that Joy has said he can use her bathroom that makes me think he might be a bit grubby too!!!😂

With Joy & Mick it wasn't "raunchy" stuff; just a couple of giggly comments. IMO it's nice that an older couple are seen to be having fun! ( There's far more explicit stuff to be found on TV, sometimes before the "watershed" of 9.00.p.m.)

I’ve missed the episode . I’ve no desire to hear it either

It was a bit TMI!

I gave up on the Archers when they threw Nigel off the rook

I think the domestic abuse stuff was justified and well done. Don't need to know the private details of someone's sex life 🫢

Is anyone else feeling the same?
The dreadful voice of the actor Simon Williams who plays Justin Elliot. I can not listen to him without needing to cough to clear my throat.
I find it very annoying.

Archers desperately trying to be modern and sometimes comes across as OTT for a family show. Too much information sometimes and odd plot lines.

So glad someone has brought up The Archers, even though I feel silly saying it!
Sex is part of life and I am interested to hear an older couple enjoying themselves that way.
Self-centred daddy's girl Alice and hard-hearted Fallon are getting on my nerves though and I long to write the script for Harrison and Chris!

There is an existing Archers thread for anyone interested more widely than the sex grin

🤣

I want to see the truth about George's involvement in the crash come out.

Iam64 Tue 25-Jun-24 13:37:31

Don’t we all Wyllow3, nasty piece of work that George
I wonder if Chris is going to listen to Alice and begin to wonder if she’s right not to believe she drove her car. Unless George confesses (unlikely based on personality) I’m not sure how he can be found out
There’s always Joy and her memory of selling youth alcohol to George - which was found in Alice’s car
Though till now no police or insurance investigations which is probably realistic

Wyllow3 Tue 25-Jun-24 13:48:01

Crown court will call George as a witness. In real life it would take forever to come up, so I expect there will be some revelations before.
Interesting point re insurance investigations tho it hasn't been mentioned.
I have sympathies for Alice, I know many don't, but to have a village hate her for something she didn't do is awful. And I've read on other SM condemnations that ignore the fact alcoholism is an illness and say Martha should be taken away from her etc. I still think she has a chance of fighting it but with all the hatred...

leeds22 Tue 25-Jun-24 14:20:58

I've stopped listening to the Archers, I now read the programme resumes once a week, to keep up to date.

Farzanah Tue 25-Jun-24 14:23:00

I think George’s guilt will drag on until Alice is in court and then with great drama it will all come out. Perhaps a last minute witness?
They aim for maximum audience ratings.

I gave up the Archers years ago too, the stories just seemed too unbelievable, not the down to earth "everyday story of country folk" that we used to have.

tictacnana Tue 25-Jun-24 16:07:39

Have given up The Archers fairly recently because of the animal skins on the tea room walls story. It was Tony Archer talking about his animals being “ dispatched “I’d rather listen to tales of Joy & Mick’s sex life- conjure up a much happier picture. Before anyone reacts to my squeamishness, I KNOW that animals are killed for human consumption, my Dad was a butcher( even though I’m a vegetarian) but I don’t want to curl up with my cocoa thinking of animals being killed. Hope Joy and Mick are having a lovely time !

eGJ Tue 25-Jun-24 18:46:30

Joy and Mick not in next week’s cat, perhaps the weather is too hot for hot sex grin

eGJ Tue 25-Jun-24 18:47:15

I of course meant next week’s cast, hot weather getting to me too!

Wyllow3 Tue 25-Jun-24 19:43:01

Court appearance already mentioned to George tonight .....Ed laid it on with a trowel.

Farzanah Tue 25-Jun-24 19:45:12

Yes Wyllow They’re starting to ramp it up……this will go on for weeks me thinks.

George left a message on someone's phone, did he not? Saying he'd found Alice's keys? Was it Will's? George is really nasty, but Alice is spoilt. Yes alcoholism is an illness, I have every sympathy for that, but after all she'd put everyone through she made demands about custody of Martha, and was successful, which was most unfair on Chris who had had to handle everything - now she is proving she never was a 'safe' mother. As an alcoholic, how 'safe' is one, ever? I love writing stories and often itch to have a go at Archer's script-writing - how sad is that!
