The Television and Radio Industries Club awards took place today.

These awards are voted for by the PEOPLE (not industry back slappers).

Nigel Farage won News Presenter of The Year for the second time.

Best News Programme went to GB News Breakfast

Alistair Stewart revealed his heartbreaking diagnosis with Camilla Tominey and won Interview of The Year.

👏👏👏👏

Shinamae having just heard what supporters of Farage say when they are my talking together, I'll stick to my own friends, thank you. Just disgusting racist, homophobic people who support the BNP and feel confident enough that their group are the same that they can spread their horrible ideas with impunity. If Farage isn't aware of what his supporters think he's an uninformed idiot.

Fair enough, but don’t say people aren’t supporting Farage because they are whether you like it or not..🙄
And of course, all the other parties are so squeaky clean..😂😂😂

Well done! Anyone who wins awards voted for by “the people” obviously appeals to a section of the public.

I don’t like Farage, but he’s a great speaker and maybe this should be his calling!

Thanks for calling us “pearl clutchers”, just because we don’t share your views.

Well done Nigel !

Were "The people"who voted for Farage all people who watch "GB News"? If so these are a very particular minority of people,

And what sort of “particular people “would they be then? 🤓And a minority as well ! 😜

Your comment seems odd to me Varian?

The voting system had categories.
Names were put forward from ALL tv channels.
Any one could vote for a candidate they liked.

Impossible to label, categorise, or pigeon hole voters for any candidate.

All that can be said is people liked them and voted.

I've just remembered that TRIC altered the closing date of the voting as it drew near.
They added an extra week I think.
Why would they do that I wonder?
The only reason I can think off is that the person they hoped would win didnt get enough votes.
So they pushed back the date to allow more (with encouragement?)
To vote in the direction they wanted?

Also I dont think they notified GbN who only found out the day before the new end date, that the voting was still open.
If I'm correct, then far from NF rigging the vote (as was suggested by AC), someone at TRIC seems to have done just that.

I don’t like Farage, either but you have to admit he is an amusing and talented speaker. Maybe that is where he should be, not in politics?

For someone that professes not to like him why do you find him amusing? How can you find an unpleasant person amusing

He’s already paid for public speaking.

Name a political figure that isn't petra

I find him fascinating, MayBee70 I also listen and watch speeches by Stalin, Hitler and Churchill. I haven’t got a closed mind that only takes notice of the people I support and agree with. That way danger lies. If you don’t know what people are saying how can you be informed about their views ?

MayBee70 Sat 29-Jun-24 14:31:26

I take your point nanna8. As someone that can’t tell a lie ( I blush terribly: I even blush if I am telling the truth but feel that someone thinks I’m lying ) I’m fascinated by people that find it so easy to tell blatant lies.

I don’t know how anyone can support NF in n any way. A man who thinks that Andrew Tate is an important voice for young men.

If Bobby Seagull is a sometimes guest it can’t be that bad.

Oh, yes, I like Bobby

Glad I am not alone in watching GB News. Since finding one of my favourite presenters who left Sky some years back was with GB News I have mainly watched them for news. They can be serious when needed but the pomposity of certain other news channels is not present with GB News thankfully! The morning shows are very good & I always watch them especially when Stephen Dixon is on with Elly Costello or Ann Diamond. Patrick Christys in the evening is entertaining also!
I think all the people who complain about GB News can only have watched five minutes of one show. So long as GB News keeps going I & many others will continue to watch.! Congratulations on the TRIC Awards for the 2nd year running. Proves there are enough of us to vote for GB News doesnt it 👍

Nigel Farage is one of the best public speakers around, agree with him or not. He is witty, spontaneous and never boring. What he is actually saying is often questionable but, wow, he says it well. I can understand why ,totally, that people follow him.

So was Hitler. And Oswald Moseley. And Enoch Powell….

Martin Luther King, JFK and RFK, Barack Obama………………

polly123 Sun 30-Jun-24 12:16:29

I like GB News especially Eammon Holmes. His dry comments are a welcome change from the posturing and rigid BBC which has become so dry and boring. Sky is fine too but I usually end up watching GB which I find more interesting and lively with better presenters.

Alistair Campbell described Farage as The consummate communicator

Yes brilliant win for them all. I never used to like Nigel but since watching his show and everything he says on tv he wraps rings around all the other parties and call me whatever you like but he’s got my vote on Thursday vote reform all the way lol and I never even thought I’d say that lol

Mt61 Sun 30-Jun-24 13:32:53

Well done to the GB News team- great presenters, well balanced show👏👏👏👏 much better than the biased bbc 😝 most of my ex Tory - labour friends watch now- after getting rid of the bbc licence ☺️

Mt61 Sun 30-Jun-24 13:42:35

Oh my god, Starma could send a glass eye to sleep compared to Farage 🤣

LauraNorderr Sun 30-Jun-24 13:45:59

Some time ago I came on here to criticise GBNews and was rightly told to earn the right to sneer I should go back and listen. I did.
I came back to apologise for misjudgment and have enjoyed some well rounded discussion and even phoned in to argue where I haven’t agreed.
Today I have been listening to Nigel Farage opening speech at the Reform rally.
I don’t particularly like the man but he is articulate and does speak some very obvious truths.
The main point here though is that GBNews are televising the rallying speech without comment, editing or interruption so that we can make our own decision.
Other stations will no doubt edit highlights according to their own beliefs.

Wyllow3 Sun 30-Jun-24 13:58:15

But GB news didn't broadcast the whole of Starmer or Sunak's election speeches - and if you read the reports on those speeches they are far from "highlights".

I'm not sneering, but this is hardly well balanced.
