Anyone wanting something to binge watch to get away from footie, might enjoy this 4 part series on ITVx with Hugh Bonneville. Funny in parts and a bit of uneasy watch in other parts I enjoyed it.

Yes we watched it last night, quite dark in parts but enjoyed it

Callistemon213 Sun 30-Jun-24 17:40:34

Yes, I agree, funny but also uncomfortable viewing.

Hugh Bonneville is always worth watching and it's good to see Alex Kingston.

I think I'd be funding a gap year for the DD if I were them 😁

It hasn't gripped me yet. I'll persevere and hope I find it more interesting as it develops. (I'm recording it so only seen one episode so far).

Believe it’s going to get darker!

I was disappointed with the first episode.

I was disappointed with the first episode.

So was I, don’t know what I was expecting.

Didn’t like the co-presenter, Madeline?, at all.

Only seen first episode, shall watch it in weekly parts.

Not impressed, but hey ho will give it another go.

Almost gave up on it after the first episode. But gave it another go and binge watched the last three episodes and really enjoyed it,as others have said the third episode is quite uncomfortable to watch. I think Karen Gillan was excellent as Madeleine.

Watched all four episodes in hopes I'd like it more but I didn't. Didn't like actress who played Madeline at all, I get it she has a lot of quiet anger but it's all very one note with no range of emotion and it's hard to believe she's a beloved tv presenter.
On the plus side - it has the lovely Ben Miles in it
On the minus side- he made me cringe for being so sleazy

I found the dialogue irritating

I read somewhere it was originally conceived for the stage which led to the more theatrical language. I watched the last episode through that lens and it would have been more effective as a stage play.

If I hadn’t watched The Morning Show with Jennifer Anniston and Reese Witherspoon which is soooooo good I might have enjoyed it, but, this is the bargain basement version of the above.

sassysaysso Tue 02-Jul-24 07:51:47

Loved the Morning Show

I was torn about this. It draws on the old sociologist view that rapists are the storm troopers of all men to keep women in their place with other men being complicit! On the other hand do we need another man to rescue us?

Aveline Tue 02-Jul-24 08:13:11

Will check that out

zakouma66 Tue 02-Jul-24 08:47:04

Has Hugh still got a rather odd face? Its not Downtown is it?

Exactly my thoughts. I was fine until the wife and daughter appeared, when the dialogue became very contrived and forced. I disliked the three female characters so much I switched off. Hugh Bonneville I love.

We binge-watched, thought it was excellent, lots to think about. I kept getting distracted by remembering Karen Gillan was Amy Pond and Alex Kingston was River Song in Doctor Who ...

Aaah, poor Hugh.
He's lovely!

Did you watch 2012? It was very funny. Somehow I thought Douglas is Cancelled might be along similar lines, but no.

Alex Kingston will always be Boadicea, gulligranny 😃

gulligranny Tue 02-Jul-24 22:17:39

Never saw her in that, Callistemon, but I loved her in Doctor Who.

And yes, Hugh Bonneville is lovely, he was great in 2012 and W1A. He was also extremely good playing against type (before he had a type, possibly?) in the tv adaptation of Daniel Deronda where he played the villainous Henleigh Grandcourt and he definitely wasn't lovely!

I enjoyed it. I really liked Karen Gillan and thought she played her part beautifully. Ben Miles played his part really well too and that made me feel really uncomfortable but I think that was the point.

maddyone Wed 03-Jul-24 12:02:18

I couldn’t get on with it. Turned it off after fifteen minutes.

Rekarie Wed 03-Jul-24 12:11:48

You and me both, maddyone

I found the few minutes I saw, tedious

knspol Wed 03-Jul-24 13:10:16

Not impressed with the first episode but have recorded others so may may give it another chance, got to be better than Gary L and the footie.
