Mrs Harris goes to Paris.

A lovely gentle watch. Set in the late 50s.

Enjoyed this too!
A few implausible moments.. how did the young girl with a much bigger bust fit in that same dress?
But will watch the end today.

Yes😄😄. But I go with the flow - all of it is implausible if you think about it!

I saw it at the cinema a couple years ago. I like Lesley Manville as an actress. Not much of a plot but those frocks!

Lion.
One of my all time favourite films, based on a true story.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 21-Jul-24 08:38:34

I saw it the other day, easy to watch lovely feel good film 👍🏻

I started watching it but it all just got too silly for my liking. It's an easy watch though.

Instead I watched "Find me Falling" set in Cyprus. The cast was mostly Greek Cypriot except for, surprisingly, Harry Connick Jnr. It's a love story and a gentle, beautifully filmed movie.

Isn’t there an older version of it made in the 40’s? Think I remember watching this black and white movie as a child.

I recommend the film Green Book, set in the US about a pianist who needs a driver and a gofor for his tour of the Deep South, only problem is that the pianist is black. It’s a great film.

Is that on Netflix Oreo?

Oreo Sun 21-Jul-24 09:09:01

Just to say😂I wasn’t around in the 40’s, I remember this film on tv sometime in the 70’s.

Am pretty sure we watched it on Netflix, yes.

Sparklefizz Sun 21-Jul-24 09:09:47

Thanks.

Grandmabatty Sun 21-Jul-24 09:55:00

There was a much earlier version made of this with Peggy Mount, I think.

Grandmabatty Sun 21-Jul-24 09:58:18

I'm wrong. There was one made with Gracie Fields, apparently and another with Angela Lansbury.

We watched it last night and have to say that we enjoyed it. A nice easy one to watch. Wicked Little Letters is coming on next week too. It’s another one that I didn’t get around to seeing at the cinema. Now I’m hoping that Back to Black and One Love will come out on Netflix, they are on Prime but to rent.

It keeps suggesting this to me and I love Lesley Manville

Daddima Sun 21-Jul-24 12:16:09

I may just watch that now. Well, this is a day of rest, innit?

I also liked The Miracle Club.

JaneJudge Sun 21-Jul-24 12:23:38

I was trying to think what I'd watched recently, POMS - I quite liked it

A new Emily in Paris starts August 15th. 👗 👠 👜 ❤️

hollysteers Sun 21-Jul-24 12:35:26

Watched it a while ago but really disliked it, twee and implausible, just not my type of film, although I love films set in that period on the whole.

I enjoyed the 'Phantom of the Open' yesterday. It was on BBC i-player. Most unexpected but enjoyable British film with a great cast.

Mollygo Sun 21-Jul-24 13:01:40

I’ve only ever read Mrs. Harris goes to Paris. I liked Paul Gallico’s books especially Jennie.
so I’ll give the film a try. Thanks for the mention.

I’ve really enjoyed Emily in Paris so far. A new series is a great idea.

Lovely film which I saw at the cinema when it was first released but will happily watch again on Netflix

Watched Mrs H - it was gentle implausible nonsense and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

How she fitted all her chic outfits in that tiny suitcase I will never know! smile

The outfits were borrowed from the accountant’s sister, who was conveniently ‘away’, and ‘would have insisted’ that Mrs Harris wore her clothes ( which were a perfect fit!)

I remember seeing an older one, which I don’t remember being as implausible as this one!
